Barnet match thread 12:34 - Oct 26 with 16450 views | 100notout | Interesting challenge today and one which will give a good indication of the level we are at. Personally, I think we'll edge it and the 15/4 for a Dale win with Bet 365 looks good value. I'll be having a small wager on this.

I wish he would tell Mcnulty, but at 2 - 1 we have a chance.

But you gave us absolutely no credit for doing so. It’s no coincidence you never post when we win. Are you negative about everything in life or just Dale?

But if he told McNulty he’d have to tell their manager too. The game is full of it.

No. I expected us to carry on pissing about at the back and I was right The reason I ( and others) dont post much on here is because we arent really allowed opinions as yours is the only one that matters apparently.

Not at all. But everyone’s opinions can be challenged. We didn’t piss about at the back on Tuesday and won a tough game. Surely that was enjoyable as a fan? We’ve a good squad, an excellent team spirit and a manager who has built that. What would you change?

I'd change the way we start games. With a more positive approach in the first few minutes, we could well have had 5 or 6 more points. Sounds like we are now pressing for an equaliser at Barnet. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Yep. Play in the opposition’s half for 10/15 mins, especially in games like this and at home to make the other team defend initially.

The fact that we usually start games with an ultra cautious attitude is purely down to Jim. We have the squad to be top 2 or 3 but too often we are a little too negative initially. My mate has just texted to say that we could have won that game based on the last 15 minutes.

The Barnet forum said the same thing, we had enough chances towards the end to have won 4-2, it is getting annoying in the way we are throwing points away, yes Barnet are a good team, but it is still annoying.
Barnet match thread on 17:18 - Oct 26 with 2232 views | richfoad32 | First half was reminiscent of last season here, when we went down with barely a whimper. Much better second half and really should have had at least a point, Allarakhia guilty of two glaring misses. At the very least it shows there's much more belief this season as we didn't let our heads drop. Still think we're missing Gilmour as Burger is just far too lightweight in the middle of the park for me. Nice cameo from Hendo, bought some energy. Came away feeling positive despite the defeat, didn't think I'd be saying that at HT.

And that’s something we all pretty much agree on - the need to be more positive at various periods during games. And that it’s totally on the manager to sort. It’s that there’s some sort of thought amongst some fans that’s the only way we ever play (especially after bad results/stages of games). That’s something that is factually incorrect.

Barnet match thread on 17:39 - Oct 26 with 2022 views | Edindale | Agree. Sounded like 3 points dropped to-day. Although they had the better first half did we hit the woodwork three times in total? Need a more positive mental attitude from the off with no fear as we are so much better on the front foot. Kairo is in a bit of a rut but Allarakia through the centre seemed promising, and Hendo still has his predatory instincts. We still have to play these at home and although we are treading water in the play offs now know that we have nothing to fear from them given our performance at their 'fortress'. Good to see Forest Green pegged back.

But didn’t playing out from the back ensure we got three points rather than one on Tuesday?! It’s when and how. Nothing to do with the philosophy.

Second half we could have easily won the game. Henderson made a massive difference and we hit the woodwork twice near the end. There's no doubt about it, we're our own worst enemies, suicidal defending again, it's happening too often.

Of course we don't do it ALL the time but we do do it a LOT of the time! Too much as far as I and the vast majority of fans think. Make a mistake in your opponents half and there is a good chance you will get away with it, make a mistake in or around your own penalty area and there is a good chance it'll cost you. Someone mentioned risk / reward but there is far more risk than reward with this type of play - for every example of the winning goal against Halifax there are many multiple examples of the first goal conceded today. Its unnecassary, its boring to watch and its costing us points. Come on Jim think about it and be honest with yoursef and the players

You won’t hear any arguments here around the ridiculousness of employing a style that costs stupid goals. Not seen today’s goal, but the Halifax goal came from playing quickly and, vitally, the midfielder involved facing forwards - East on this occasion. It’s the balls into midfielders facing their own goal that costs us and so many other teams goals and makes no sense at all. When we do play quickly and in a forward direction from the back it’s good to watch.

His interview indicates his frustration with their goal. A lot comes down to player choices - East v Halifax was a lot different to East v Southend. This is McNulty’s philosophy as a manager, said it a million times. He won’t change. It’s whether he can ensure the most effective version of it is seen more often than not. Today’s highlights appear to show he did get them playing the effective version, but without the finishing touch.
