Cambridge- the carabao cup adventure starts here - match thread 22:42 - Aug 12 with 47195 viewsnumptydumpty

I think only ever started one match day thread

But have taken responsibility this season for our new found cup successes.

The cup run starts here.

Taylor Richards scores a 90th minute winner - an own goal - to set us on our merry way and few games later Richards gets cult hero status in being the beginning of the magic run towards Carabao Cup Final success !!!

Walking in a "Mackie Wonderland"
Poll: Where will we finish next season ???

Calm down folks.

We won

Norwich just beat “just” beat Stevenage at home

WBA our conquerors last Saturday beaten by Fleetwood. Recall Fleetwood 2 QPR 1 FA Cup 3rd round 22-23

I get it, it’s our abysmal performance and a couple of new players not being messiah, and Marti suddenly became the “villain”

Perhaps we should go back to our tactics last season, but putting down the team after 2 games in a new season and “willing” us to lose just to prove a point is a bit over the top

We progressed to the next round, that’s a change for the better, no?

Poll: Isaac Hayden - Yes or No?

I only saw the second half and it was on a stream like it was beamed from Mars but you'd think they were the Championship side if you didn't know otherwise. Those two wingers can't start soon enough to give us some attacking options.

Ironically Smythe was having a better game before he went off - playing at his level and not giving up on any ball. Deserved his goal.

Poll: With no leg room, knees killing me, do I just go now or stay for the 2nd half o?

Powder dry. But wow, that second half was truly awful.

That was excruciating viewing in the second half .
We won and that’s good but we won’t have gained much confidence from it.
Cambridge definitely will.

New players, changed side , people adapting .
All that is true of course.

But something is up. Not sure what . But something isn’t quite right at the minute

You can't tell me that on the second half performance we have been shocking... they have totally outplayed us... we have been fortunate to say the least
The remark was a little ironic but I can still see that we have beaten a team that had more chances than us, have played better than us, and they had 5 changes Forced more saves from the keeper than us, and hit the post twice
I'm blue and white thru and thru but that tonight was lucky and we didn't deserve

You said you wanted Cambridge to win and I said I find that a weird thing to say ...and I stand by it.

AND WHEN I DREAM , I DREAM ABOUT YOU AND WHEN I SCREAM I SCREAM ABOUT YOU!!!!!
Poll: best number 10 ever?

Phew

Got away with that a bit . Good in patches but we did make it difficult for ourselves and were wide open at times

Need to tighten up massively for Saturday

Yep seem to go all passive once we get in front, but we won. Celar well off at the moment and looks a bit lost, Frey looks the better option up front for the time being. Hope the two new signings can put a rocket up the rest of them. But we won so a positive, when this had banana skin written all over it.

Not a great performance by any measure but a win Is a win nonetheless.

But our passing be It short-medium or long range Is way below where It should be and was very frustrating to watch.

Anyway whatever I f ucked off after we helped them to score and had a shower as I couldn't watch anymore mis-hit passes.

We've so far played 180 minutes of competitive football so on that basis I'm ''hanging In there'' for a few more games before slagging the pillocks off.

Anyone fancy a pint?

All wins are good, especially when one's made the correct prediction.

Looking forward to the draw for the next round.

We'll be running round Wembley with our willies hanging out.

What a terrible 2nd half performance that was, we seem to have lost all shape and organisation. Sam Field seems to have forgotten how to play football over the summer, miles of the pace. I hope we were experimenting but something is not right, we keep getting cut open through midfield, I think we must be on slow burn fitness again. EDB needs a loan out. Celar is not going to give us anything outside the box and I'm a bit miffed about Santos at the moment

Comfortable first half, even with all the changes. But 2nd half was as lacking in drive and quality as Saturday.
Lots of players given opportunities to show what they have got, but very few took the chance. Thought Frey was decent, as was Smyth; The usual caveat with the latter is lack of final ball. EDB got worse the longer the game went on.
Field very poor, which is a worry. Don't think Celar nor Dykes did themselves any favours.

Still a win is a win.

Well said. Beggars belief at some of tonight’s posts.
Didn’t know until tonight that the mighty QPR were entitled to beat League One teams away from home.

Looked to me like the plan was to do just enough while getting more minutes into legs , the second half was like a pre season friendly in terms of intensity .
I dont think Marti would have bothered if we went out and i dont think we can take much from it in predicting how we will go this season

Well, we just about limped over the line.
We were absolute shite, cambridge by comparison, were very good to watch.
Their passing, forward play, miles ahead of ours.
And Cambridge are hot favourites for relegation from league 1?

But maybe could be the making of Richards? Or more likely they will be working out when they can send him back.

Ok

Well lump on us for relegation with that kind of support

We won. We were experimenting.

First half was very good

Second half if that cock up goal they scored hadn't happened who knows but we got through and we know a little more.

They are only one league below us not three leagues but hey ho !!!

Happy clapper!

That second half was sub-poxy, and you choose to have a go at those fans who tell it like it is! They outclassed us, outplayed us, and outworked us, and should have won 4-2.

Will be interesting to hear honest Marti's view, which I hope contains less bullshit than his team tonight.

Poll: What should the club do now (assuming no imminent change of owners)?

Sorry but it was the 2nd half (non) performance and doing their best to throw it away that has got many riled up I suspect - I know that is why I am ‘annoyed’ to say the least.

Some of the players in the 2nd half looked like they had not played the game before.

Sounds like we didn't play great in 2nd half, but it was maybe only 3-4 of our first team playing in their normal positions so I'll take the win.

The goal against is a shocker .
Yes of course Walsh plays a poor ball… but …. I noticed in the first half that Verane, EDB and Frey all played balls into space to Paal who either , stopped, changed direction, lost interest , was distracted by a moth….etc etc .
He made balls played into him look awful . All 3 players aforementioned gave him daggers and worse afterwards and If you look closely he come short for the ball off of Walsh …and stops !
It’s a poor ball from Walsh but Paal made look as bad as it was .
Feel like I’m digging Paal out and actually he was better than Saturday . But that’s not saying much .

On a positive note , our first goal was a lovely move involving half a dozen players and showed we can actually play if we are brave enough .

Hilarious match thread. Relegation looms, new signings are poor, because the home team in a division below us scores and puts our B team under pressure. Look at the line up that ended the game!

I suggest some of you don’t watch on Saturday 😂

The second half was a shambles, surely everyone can see that. We gifted them several golden opportunities and were very fortunate they fluffed them all. We looked like the lower league team holding on for a smash and grab.

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

Only dipped in and out of it but main takeaways

- a shite performance but a win in an early season cup game is progress
- everyone’s moaning about Smyth but right now I reckon he’s our best player, give him some credit
- way too much slow, lazy passing in the team who then throwtheir hands up. I hate that, never a good sign
- Frey’s finish was quality

This why we are so poor in Cup competitions. A lot of supporters seem to buy into the club philosophy of binning off these games. Don't think MC has that mentality. I hoped that new faces at the top would do something about this malaise.

I think they will. We are only two games in. Its too early to throw the book at them just yet.

If we do that we are going to run out of books before the end of the season.

A great number of teams change the whole 11 for this competition and lose to lower oppo , do you think they care ? . The fans maybe.
We have a game away against a relegated team in 4 days time , we had to play this game tonight , He picked a decent team went 2-0 up and stopped playing ... all about Saturday then . No injuries , more game time for all .
