Rest of the Championship thread 11:07 - Aug 10 with 114539 views | Hunterhoop | Toyed with this idea last season. Shall we have a thread to discuss, comment on, cover the rest of the league? A place to discuss other teams’ results, performances, financial implosions, etc? For example, last night, anyone catch either of the first two games? I didn’t. But somewhat surprised/worried Blackburn scored 4 given how they are meant to struggle. Was it Derby being utter sh*te? Sounds like Preston are continuing in the same vein of being incredibly dull. Clive, what do you think? Worth making a sticky? Might reduce the number of threads to manage.

Rest of the Championship thread on 22:49 - Jan 15 by ManinBlack | If we had those 5 points we tossed away at home to Portsmouth and Plymouth we would virtually have been safe now. Two very poor sides away from home constantly losing on their travels. |
And Hull! Mind you we got unexpected points at Sheff U and Burnley so I guess you could argue we should have 6 points more.

Rest of the Championship thread on 10:54 - Jan 16 by Hunterhoop | Chansiri is a lunatic. Rohl will presumably be off soon then. Perhaps summer at the latest. They could be relegation candidates next season, especially if they have a points deduction incoming. Is anyone at risk of getting a points deduction this season? |
Weren't there rumours about Southampton being interested in appointing Rohl a few weeks ago? Maybe Chansiri upset Southampton and their revenge is recalling Shea Charles?

Yes you could add Hull too but I picked Portsmouth and Plymouth because they are dreadful away and consistently lose 3 or 4-0 on their travels. My point is that had we got six points in those two games, we would be sitting on 37 points challenging for the play offs and Portsmouth and Plymouth would be on 20 points. No way either of them would make up 17 points on us with their terrible away form. We would be pretty safe now had we won both home games. [Post edited 16 Jan 21:24]

Good for him. Genuinely decent guy and a good manager. To get over bowel cancer and come back to managing is exceptional. [Post edited 17 Jan 5:59]

Supposedly two of the best teams in the division. Sunderland were better but the dearth of finishers these days is astonishing. Pragmatic predictable football by Burnley which kind of works until the goal gets insight, Sunderland more unorthodox and watchable but largely the same in front of goal, you can’t help feel this season is a missed opportunity although it may be becoming standard practice if the present bottom three comeback to join us once more.

I agree with you about Rowett being a good manager but to be fair to the previous Oxford manager, he had a decent home record which was better than ours when he got sacked. His downfall was they were poor away and that is what cost him. The truth is there are several clubs in this league who have struggled away as Oxford have. Clubs like Luton, Derby, Plymouth and Portsmouth have found away points hard to come by. I think Portsmouth have won five on the bounce at home but away from Fratton Park they keep losing. They can win 3-0 or 4-0 at home and then lose a week later by the same score away which is a big swing in performance levels. Since Swansea beat us 3-0, they seem to be losing by the same score ever since. Trust us to be their Christmas present...

Rest of the Championship thread on 20:14 - Jan 19 with 1323 views | Andybrat | Am I the only one looking at results and trying to work what is best? For example Portsmouth win yesterday and me thinking this is good as keeps us 6 points from playoffs and crazily being pleased Leeds beat Wednesday for the same reason. I am a logical person ( ex banker) surely I should be looking the other way. Is this what happens when you are mid-table? I am confused being in this new world.

I’m with you on that! I keep thinking shame that Pompey and Oxford won as the gap stays but then I thought actually were now 3 points closer to Blackburn and Middlesborough!
Rest of the Championship thread on 20:37 - Jan 19 with 1219 views | DieByYourSide | 5th and 6th are up for grabs. We were only the third team to win at Plymouth yesterday, very deservedly and without both of our first choice CBs. Midfield three running like a well-oiled machine, Dembele to come back into the mix attacking wise as well as Celar possibly. A bit of luck with injuries...we definitely need to be looking up the table. No need to be scared of anyone atm. [Post edited 19 Jan 20:43]
