Another push for ticket sales. 20:02 - Jul 29 with 8211 views | _Windydale | Its been 1 game but, Should the club do more to promote in social media a new encouraging tactical change this season? To get those that have stropped off due to death by passing. For a further push for more season ticket sales. If the - 'keep Calm - Pass it sideways' ethos is truly dead. How do we entice the afflicted back? Last year we should have replaced Desmond, with Stu the Sloth. But, If this seasons going to be a good product, what about some noise around it.

Another push for ticket sales. on 14:15 - Jul 30 by Rodingdale | I completely agree with TS on the need to move the club forward on and off the field. Seems to me that there must be a desire for the new owners not to rock the boat with the existing board members. I suppose from their point of view it was only a few months ago they had no inkling they’d be owning a controlling interest in a professional football club, so I suppose imposing too much on the old guard risks friction which they would rather avoid. How long it takes them to realise the weaknesses in the old approach - it remains to be seen. Maybe they never will. |
That's an important point We simply don't know how those joining the board (whilst saving everyone's skins, including the co-Chairman's) are going about their relationship with the old guard. It certainly appears to be one of mutual agreement and friendship. I wonder - if push came to shove - whether they'd take the word of the existing board members should fans express a need for a change in outlook. Or, how long they'd be prepared to bide their time, perhaps with a few gentle hints to begin with, rather than coming in and looking to dominate proceedings in an arena they have no familiarity with My take would be to maintain solidarity among the board, who have good reason to resent the way they were viewed (rightly or wrongly) by sections of the fanbase before the Ogdens arrived on the scene That's why i referred earlier to taking care that any questions/points raised, either at the forum or elsewhere, didn't come across as outright criticism; rather, seeking to find a way forward for all of us If not, there's a danger of (yet another) "us and them" situation developing, which helps no-one. A three year plan is in place: not just about what happens on the field but right throughout the club and its aim of community engagement. To start off (just a few weeks in) on the wrong foot could be disastrous for that project. I really do think we need to be patient, given that we could all be facing the start of a new season with absolutely nothing to watch [Post edited 30 Jul 15:48]

Another push for ticket sales. on 15:08 - Jul 30 with 2442 views | 49thseason | Its the layer of management below the BOD that are the critical movers and shakers, The board is primarily responsible for setting the standards, targets and providing the wherewithall to meet them. I have no doubt the new Commercial Director is moving at pace to figure out the moves he needs to make to meet the Board's instructions. Certainly he will need more people around him but finding the quality and skillsets he wants might prove problematic and need time. It seems football clubs are highly people-intensive .. think about all the demands the teams have in terms of coaches, specialist coaches, physios, kit men etc. Add to that office staff bar staff etc. and as I recall at one point we were at over 130 staff in total, that is a lot of managment especially if managers such as there are, are also working at full pace in their own roles. The big targets have been set, EFL in 3 seasons, self funding in 5 years, those plans will inform all the other decisions. There will be a financial plan in place and the moves required will be made when the time is right I have no doubt. Meanwhile we assemble the right squad on the field and off it. Some things will be sacrificed, some enhanced.. there is a plan, there is finance to support it. Good football equals better crowds. Better crowds will require better administration, but not yet. If we get most of the big moves right, the small ones will take care of themselves....

You make some good points but it's going to be another 12 months nearly until the club gets another chance to increase season ticket sales. I went in the Club shop on Saturday, nothing relevant to buy, two weeks from the start of the season. It's the club who launched the 'New Era' headline a couple of months ago so it's not being unkind to suggest that nothing much seems to have changed in the build up to the season starting. Constructive criticism shouldn't result in a 'us and them', it seems we've missed the boat in respect of riding the wave and the feel good factor of new owners, that could have been tapped into in a effort to increase season ticket sales, it doesn't feel as though that's happened. The kit issues, lack of stock in the club shop, we don't even know what our kit is going to look like, that's after fans took the time to engage and choose the options. Communication has been a problem over the last few years and over the summer it doesn't appear to have improved. Any news we do get out of the club is often reactionary after fans have posted on social media. A lot of it is basic stuff. I don't think any of this is something that the Chairman or Directors should be implementing themselves, there should be specific members of staff who have experience in what's needed to ensure all aspects of the club are maximising financial opportunities. Season Ticket sales and lack of stock in the club shop suggests that's not happened this Summer. Turning a blind eye and keeping quiet in case it causes a ' us and them' shouldn't be a consideration, we all want what's best for the club.

It's a tricky one re staff because the aim is sustainability. I'd argue that we'd be better off reviewing existing staff to see if they're doing a decent job and/or if their output is up to scratch. I can't help but feel the kit/training wear situation is a hangover from us being skint. Possibly not paying on time, in full etc, thus putting us at the bottom of the pile when it comes to delivery. Or maybe we didn't order early enough. The kit vote was a good idea but naively executed, leaving it wide open to abuse from rival fans. The training gear is terribly plain, especially when compared to what O'Neills are putting out for other clubs. We do have to be better, in all areas, but I think it will take a little while to recover from the mess of last season. Let's hope there is a big deal made out of the kit launch if/when it does arrive.

I take that on board, it probably is the result of fallout from last season. It will be interesting to make a comparison this time next year.
Another push for ticket sales. on 16:54 - Jul 30 with 2228 views | EllDale | Annual staff appraisals are standard practice in most professionally run businesses. There’s no reason why it should be any different at Dale. I’m sure the new commercial supremo has his own KPIs. It does rather feel though as if thinking has gone back 50 years; if we open the turnstiles then people will simply turn up.

Re the kit, I went in the club shop pre Carlisle to have a look round (still ended up buying a hoodie) and the bloke in the shop was saying that the order was only placed 5 weeks ago because we had no money until the takeover was formalised, to me that really brought home how close we were to going bang. I know the merchandising debacle seems like a large step backwards but with everything going on at the club I am happy enough to let this season play out as it will. What happens next season will show if we have got to grips with all the things we moan about re fan communication The owners have a three year plan, the manager has been given a three year contract and it seems to me that we are signing younger players on longer contracts with a view to improving them. Now the proof of course will be on the field, but the performance on Saturday gave me hope and I'm now looking forward to me trip to Boston. Having said all that It's not been this difficult to get hold of a shirt since I used to cycle up to the all-in-one every day after school to see if they'd been delivered!
Another push for ticket sales. on 11:31 - Aug 15 with 1444 views | Dale_4_Life | 2 full days left for all fence sitters to get a season card and be part of the 2024/25 campaign. Its not looked better in years so hopefully plenty will consider returning to Spotland. I wonder if the terrific opening day 0-3 away win and the stability of new look Dale will see a fair few cards purchased this week?. The first competitive game of football at Spotland is this Saturday 17th August at 3pm. Up The Dale. [Post edited 15 Aug 11:33]
