We don't have time for an extensive recruitment process, getting people to apply for the job and seeing all the candidates, that is how we ended up with the Judas that was Beale.
We need somebody immediately to be appointed next week and my guess is that they have already approached somebody last week, you don't advertise all your actions.
If we were well run, we would already have done the process months ago, have a list of potential candidates, and spoken them.
What I suspect we have done is seen Rowett and Eustace have been fired and Warnock is available and thought good time to move.
With that in mind I'd prefer an interim manager until Christmas / end of season and get the structure on place to then evaluate everything and get a manager in to reflect the type of player / squad / style of play / business model etc we want.
If we go and hire someone now in a 3 year contract because we have heard of them with not much further research we have los the plot IMO.
So I agree with you short-term we need something, but long-term has to be the priority.

Clubs like Brentford and Brighton are always prepared for when their manager leaves. They have a list of candidates they know they want to interview and ideally who they want. Quite often someone many of us have never heard of. We will just look at a list of who’s out of work from the Championship. There’s just such a little forward thinking at our club. None of those names inspire me to be honest.
It’s very, very clear that our owners and Brentford’s / Brighton’s are polar opposites.
Given our owners track record, I’d be terrified if it’s anyone other than Warnock. In an ideal world they shouldn’t be making any decisions at all, but a decision needs to be made. Until we get someone in who knows what he or she is doing, they need to make the obvious, least risky choice, with the highest chance of short-term success/survival. If they ever drop lucky and accidentally appoint someone who turns out to be a decent DoF, then we have a chance of making a sensible, considered, long-term appointment.
This lot are like the 6 year old whose mum tells them not to touch anything whilst she nips next door to get a cup of sugar, and comes back, two minutes later, to find the house on fire.
There are probably many good Managers around who I know nothing of, and doubt our Board would either. Of the Managers I know Warburton has been the most successful with us since Warnock got us promoted and I'd like him back as Manager or DoF. But Colin is the King of rescue of relegation bound Clubs in the Championship and thus looks the obvious candidate, and surely gives us the best chance of escape this season, so he has my vote. With probably no money to spend on players it could me his toughest ever assignment, and how this necessary managerial change leaves us with regard to FFP doesn't bear thinking about.

Whoever comes in, Warnock etc they still have to cope with one senior striker who only really scores goals for Scotland (although he has credit for playing after he nearly died) and three rookie attackers who have one senior goal between them.
I love Warnock, he is a legend here, but how do you get a team winning games with one occasional goal scorer?

Answers on a postcard.
Our mission this season is to finish above Sheff Weds, Rotherham and Huddersfield. Do they have prolific strikers? Just had a quick look and, I may be wrong, but it doesn’t look like any of their top scorers has more than 3. We’re not going to score many, but neither are they.
Warnock, if it’s him, I think is capable of has making us tighter at the back and more competitive in the middle, so when we do score, it has a chance of meaning something.

Re point 1 which high level successful manager/coach is going to be keen to come to a club who are favourites for relegation with no money to spend?
Can’t see a high level manager fancying League One next year, and a high level coach/assistant manager would be taking a huge gamble on us as their first manager job as relegation and a poor start the following season would more than likely lead to the sack and a struggle for a second chance in the top job.
QPR’s squad is a mess: a mixture of talented players way below their best, promising youngsters with a lot to learn and older injury prone journeymen. It takes a special talent to get the best out of this lot and get them believing and winning again quickly and Neil Warnock ticks that box more than anyone else and will give us a fighting chance of saving this season.
There is certainly appeal in Warnock, for sure as others said I would have thought the club would have a list already that they would be looking at and have probably spoken to. Rumours of Rowett being spoken with in the last couple of weeks, Talk sport saying we had spoken to Sabri Lamouchi. Looking at my criteria and it may not be the clubs as much as we might think he is a dick Nathan Jones is the one who meets the criteria and has made it known he is keen.
If we are going for short term now and then looking again at the summer I suspect a more left field name

We didn’t have an out and out goalscorer playing upfront when we won the league under Warnock so I’d imagine he’ll look to use Dykes in a Helguson type role with the likes of Chair, Willock, Armstrong and Smyth playing off him (not all at the same time!).
It’s useful that our squad is very much suited to the 4231 system that Warnock utilised to great success during his first spell at the club. I think this is the team/system he’ll pick.

Eustace knows the club, the setup and the staff. Therefore he can integrate quickly. Warnock has been away for quite some time now.
Eustace knows the players as well. He knows how to get the best out of Willock and Chair as we need goals.
Eustace knows the league and knows the players in it to use tactics against.
I suspect it wont be Eustace as he knows what a basket case we are, whereas Warnock does not care.
Eustace will wait until Burnley go down and then take that job. They will hire him when they get rid of Kompany as they know he can get them to at least 6th or higher with money, which they have.
It'll be Warnock. He'll need to be more 'hands-on' I think than in his previous roles of late where he would leave it to the coaches and come and pick a team on Friday. These boys need some serious coaching. There is enough there to stay up though and he's capable of it, clearly he's very capable of doing it.
But more important now is the succession planning. The DoF needs to come into place, assess the squad, decide on a direction for us that is going to be realistic. What does our squad look like in a year? 2 years? 3 years? and who will be the head coach to come and implement that. Get it right and we might just salvage this club. Ignore it or get it wrong and we can look at Reading for an idea of our immediate future.
As I said, bookmark this thread, because there will be loads of people who were all shouting bring back NW and then when it all goes wrong will deny ever wanting him back.
It has amazed me how many people denied ever wanting GA.
I just want us to get someone that the players will buy in to, they did under Warburton and Eustace, Warbs wont come back so lets get Eustace in.
The board afforded to sack GA by sponsoring the stadium and I think that will also give us some money for Jan transfer window so get someone in that will use it well.

I mostly agree but The Snake wasn't an out of work Championship manager . I don't ever want him back, though.
Re. Warnock and his age, bear in mind that if he comes, he is very likely to bring Ronnie Jepson with him. Jepson, 60, is a bit younger.
On the subject of our strikers, Jepson was a striker and it sounds like he does a lot of coaching work with strikers (see below).

Eustace was Assistant Manager under McClaren and Warburton for most of his time with us: he only actually managed us for 7 games of which he won 2, drew 1 and lost 4. That was 4 and a half years ago.
It’s a shot in the dark to claim that the players bought in to Eustace as he wasn’t the manager apart from those 7 games: none of those players are at the club anymore either.
Warnock has a great track record for saving clubs from relegation and getting players to quickly buy in to what he wants. Bookmark that.

in my opinion the situation that we find ourselves in at the moment needs a very quick short term fix, we have no time to plan for next season.
No point in making a management appointment for the long term when at the moment we have no idea which division we will be in next season. That is why for me it would make sense to try and appoint Neil Warnock to the end of May.
He would probably be the only candidate that would take the job on a short term basis.
Yes he is in his 70's but only last season he saved Huddersfield from relegation with I think a worse set of players than we have now. He has made no secret that he wants to manage again.
I think we have a team, maybe not promotion material but certainly better than the position that we now occupy. It needs a manager who can get the best out of what we have available, Mainly by playing players in their right positions and using substitutes sensibly. Warnock has a extensive wealth of experience.
If, if he would come until the end of May the board have time to select another long term candidate and hopefully get it right this time.

It's hard to look beyond Warnock. He's available. He is one of the few who would accept a deal to the end if the season. And, he managed to save Huddersfield from a similar position last year.
We need to get out of this season and then start rebuilding.

I always thought what made Helguson so effective in that formation was the way the ball stuck to him when he received it with his back to goal, and then his ability to feed it in to one of the attacking three behind him. Dykes is a very different kind of striker, less suited to that formation imo

Fair point re Dykes and Helguson. Maybe the new manager can improve Dukes’s hold up play. I still think our squad is better suited to a lone front man with our collection of number 10’s and wingers playing in behind.

Let’s be honest, this isn’t much different to the last three years with Dykes being our only real striker. Difference is that we’ve successfully set up to score goals from midfield.

If it's not going to be Colin, then I'd want Eustace. Stabilise and build for the longer term. Wouldn't want Rowett, definitely wouldn't want Jones, and Beale is hopefully a joke suggestion.

I would love them to appoint someone I knew nothing, or very little about. Something that showed some real thorough research, some planning behind the scenes with a view to the long-term.
What will happen is they will sit round a desk. Someone will suggest Warnock, someone Rowett etc, after a 20 minute discussion they will choose someone (assume this has already happened and all agreed) and another I'll thought appointment will be made.
Guy who sells programmes will suggest Ollie...

There's chatter about Sabri Lamouchi who was manager at Cardiff for a few months earlier this year. He was also at Forest in 2019/20. I can't say I know anything about him really and it feels too left field if we are interested. Any thoughts?
