Match thread: Stevenage on 17:25 - Mar 4 with 3791 views | R17ALE | What a win. Well done. But I'm fuming when I consider what the table might now look like had Brierley and O'Donnell played every week. And if Rodney had been used as a winger every week. Agree that Taylor had a very good game also.

Match thread: Stevenage on 17:52 - Mar 4 with 3550 views | D_Alien | As we move into Spring, suddenly we look like a football league team Stevenage came to play football and we'll have less open games but can't fault today, when the exiled lady luck also showed up Bentley even got the subs right

Match thread: Stevenage on 18:08 - Mar 4 with 3416 views | MAK | Two different halves again, but that can be partly forgiven by the virtue of being 2 up. Overall a performance from a team that can, if it wants, stay in the football league. Not entirely sure that the defensive set up for the last 30 mins was the way to go but it worked today. Even our much maligned captain turned up today. Unfortunately, the weakest link seems to be Jimmy K. Again, he's not what he used to be. Get a ball winner to compliment Brierley and who knows where the next 2 months takes us.
Match thread: Stevenage on 18:22 - Mar 4 with 3298 views | DaleiLama | I know this isn't the team we started the season with but based on that, there is a case to be made that we have underperformed (again this season)

Match thread: Stevenage on 18:23 - Mar 4 with 3292 views | NorthernDale | We played well done, but unlike other games that we have played well and got nothing, today we fought for every ball, especially in defence. O'Donnell deserved to be M.o.M he was outstanding. Odoh played very well first half and got down the wing, second half he was more restricted. Rodney and Quigley got stuck in and unsettled their defenders. Lloyd was like a busy bee, in creating chances, room and even scoring. Brierley as shown what we have missed in midfield for so long and must be seen as runner up to O'Donnell for M.o.M. The defence seem to be more organised and played with conviction, when put under considerable pressure from a very physical Stevenage team in the second half. Overall an excellent day and must give the team confidence for next week visit to Grimsby.
Match thread: Stevenage on 18:26 - Mar 4 with 3252 views | RotherhamDale | Credit where credit's due, great performance today. Brierley was a class act in that first half, and like others have said, it's a real shame he's not been playing. Thought we rode our luck a bit in the 2nd half but we've been due it. The shot that hit the post and the follow up at the end summed up the day for Stevenage.
| Possession with progression. |

Match thread: Stevenage on 18:49 - Mar 4 with 3120 views | Clivert | Effort and desire goes along way in football. They've set the standard that should be expected for the rest of the season now with that performance today, particularly in the first half.
Match thread: Stevenage on 18:49 - Mar 4 with 3120 views | SaxonDale | Didn’t watch it but that’s a great result and at last something to build on. Well done to all- hope they go out and celebrate tonight to remember how good winning feels. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Match thread: Stevenage on 18:51 - Mar 4 with 3105 views | sooty_dale | That's much more like it Dale. Fantastic performance 1st half and resolute when we had to dig in 2nd half. Thought all the players played well and put a proper shift in. Brierley's passing ability and range makes such a difference. We may ultimately come up short but performances and effort like today show that we have the ability to fight for our survival.
Match thread: Stevenage on 18:51 - Mar 4 with 3103 views | frenzied | At last a win. Just hope we can force a situation where our destiny lies in our own hands rather than waiting for others to slip up. Grimsby will clearly have one eye on their cup trip to Brighton next week so may well be there for the taking. A third game in a row without a loss would give us hope. UTD!!!!!!!

Yep, agreed. If Bennett isn't starting at CH then I'd like to see him given an opportunity in place of Keohane as the CDM alongside Brierley and Lloyd. I think that has the potential to be a really nicely balanced midfield 3.
Match thread: Stevenage on 19:13 - Mar 4 with 2907 views | IOMDale | I’d resigned myself to Dale being a NL club next season but that display and three points today has made me cautiously optimistic we can avoid the drop. There’s still a lot of work to be done and we’ve had a couple of false starts this season but use today as a template and we give ourselves every chance. As others have alluded to, Brierley back in midfield and ROD in goal has made a world of difference. Well done Jim and well done to the playing squad, use this game as the benchmark going forward. Eleven cup finals from hereonin.

When we beat Leeds Utd in the FA Cup Reece Bennett played CDM that day and did a good job.

Absolutely agree. Those 3 in the middle with a rotation of 2 of Rod/Quigs/Hendo up front would work well.
Match thread: Stevenage on 20:05 - Mar 4 with 2575 views | EllDale | The more you think about it the situation regarding Ethan in the transfer window was scandalous. Not so much the proposed sale to Blackburn which was fair enough as he’s going to leave sooner or later but more the farcical situation whereby he wasn’t playing for Dale but wasting his time with Sheffield United when they weren’t allowed to sign him. All at the same time as dropping apparent hints that the lad was injured. Would he have made a difference in midfield in games versus Newport, Hartlepool (twice) and Colchester. On today’s form of course he would!

All this. Not asking for heads to roll or any other extreme reactions, but this situation was handled with naivety. As a club, we should be big enough to admit this.

Is it possible we sent Ethan on his trial before Sheff Utd were given the embargo? Anyway what a great feeling heading home after a win.

Yes he was James. But they were put under embargo on 18th January. We played Hartlepool away and Carlisle at home after that - 2 games Brierley should have been playing for us. Obviously a decision had been made that he was being sold no matter what and we couldn't risk him playing. If we end up going down by a couple of points both the Brierley decision and signing and playing Eastwood will have cost us our 102 year league place.

They were hanging around for the Stevenage massive this week. Like I said, this is becoming a problem.

Match thread: Stevenage on 21:39 - Mar 4 with 2156 views | EllDale | It’s a shame that the home attendance dipped below 2000 for a Saturday game because the whole team performed for 95 minutes. Tactically astute football in the first half and some real last ditch heroics after the break. The game changed after they made a couple of substitutions after half an hour but Dale adapted well but we’d scored two great goals before then. I though Quigley’s pass to Odoh in the buildup for the second was something special. EEL gets some stick on here but I think he’s been no better nor worse than anyone else since The start of the season. It can’t be easy when the defensive formation and partnerships change and when you’ve a non-existent midfield in front of you for much of the time. ROD’s display only makes the continued selection of Eastwood even more baffling. I didn’t see or hear much of their manager either. In fact I was beginning to wonder in the first half if he was actually there. The thing now is to maintain this kind of form. I thought that we may have turned a corner after the Northampton game only to be disappointed. If we’re going to go down then let’s go down fighting. If the worse did happen then my first thought is that this team and determination would be good enough to win plenty of games in the National League but how many will still be here. Lloyd presumably be on his way, as will Brierley and Quigley. Altogether though positive and encouraging.
