Think football can’t win, if they didn’t postpone the games then they would have been slated as being selfish and only concerned with money grabbing ect, postponing the fixtures ..well you can see the reaction of some on here as a small example of how the nation is reacting to this

They could win if they were following a set plan that was consistent across all sports and other sectors. That they chose to make a decision that was inconsistent and clearly unpopular before it was made is why what’s followed has been inevitable.

DDB made a good point about postponing last night’s games making it then difficult to play today. That looked like it was part of a set protocol they’d put in place, however subsequent meetings and choices prove otherwise.

Without doubt, they will be regretting it now because the aim should be for the nation to respect the Queen whilst carrying on with life. Now we’re all discussing the incompetence of those running football again.

Perspective.

Tidy the house. Do some gardening. Go shopping. Take the kids to the park or the cinema.

Nobody in financial hardship would have booked train tickets at those prices anyway. 90% of fares are walk-up now anyway.

Football returns next week.

I get what you're saying, I really do, but there is more to it than that. Take a couple of fixtures in the Championship for example, Bristol City v Preston and Blackpool v Middlesbrough. Try telling those Preston and Boro fans that they cannot now get their money back on the hotels they have booked for a Saturday night out (unless they still go anyway). Or, try telling those hotels that offer free cancellation via Booking.com that at short notice, they now have empty rooms and very little time to fill them, having expected a few bookings. It just feels like unnecessary issues which could have been avoided by carrying on and allowing people to show their respect as they see fit.

Yeah, it’s not the impact on us individually, more that it will impact many in so many ways. All the bar staff/stewards/local pubs who lose out on vital wages and business when it’s needed more than ever, all because of a decision made yesterday after meetings.

People would understand it far more if it was clearly laid out as part of a procedure that’s been known about for a long time. Football authorities had a choice, that alone is strange, then they waited to make that choice until yesterday. The fallout is understandable.

Anyone with a subscription for this? It sounds like there were plenty of disagreements. Again, totally avoidable if there was a set process.

But in this case they could have just said they were following the example of all the other sports. Also the pictures of 1000s of fans showing respect and singing the anthem would have been a really positive story.

Now it looks isolated

The 10 minutes preceeding play at the Oval this morning has demonstrated why the decision for sport to go ahead today was right, in my mind. Laura Wright nailed both those anthems. Beautifully powerful stuff and a memory of the Queen for everyone in that crowd to carry with them for life.

As well as the potential loss to individuals, to hospitality etc if the postponement of the fixtures, Clubs that already are struggling will lose money. The rearranged fixtures will be midweek and therefore in most cases at least , will result in smaller attendances. The EFL have cost some of their members income at a time when many are struggling financially for no good reason.

Take this however you want but apparently Eton College played Rossall School yesterday.
And the latter were quite happy to publicise this on social media although the tweet has subsequently been deleted.
