Chaos at the turnstiles 18:20 - Aug 22 with 3115 viewsdwayne_dibley

none of the QR codes on the online tickets were being accepted by the turnstile scanners or the handheld scanners used by the stewards. The stewards had been instructed not to admit anyone who did not have a scannable ticket. Initial advice was to queue up for the Ticket Office when that queue was taking over an hour. Eventually someone from "Customer Liaison" turned up with a different scanner that could actually read the QR codes and advised fans could be let in. A bolshy APT Security supervisor initially blocked that until he was overruled. Made my seat with only minutes to spare but I was at the head of a very long queue. Over forty minutes of my life wasted.

Well, I say let's get out there and tw@t it!

Whilst the paint is still pealing off the roof and walls, cobe webs everywhere, they have installed a new scanner system at the turnstile that doesn't work!! This is after a load of season ticket holders didn't get their tickets. I mean it's like an episode of Laurel and Hardy.

But quite rightly, at least all fans are getting a refund and Toby Steele has intervened in what has been an absolute shambles.

The QR code off my phone worked okay, If that was the problem I’m amazed I never saw any trouble, it took me over
20 minutes in a queue to get to the turnstiles and if I was turned away at that point I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t of taken it to well

The Chapel Stand filled up very late, I wonder if it was worse there. Did anyone see if the fancy new seats in the Kingsland were occupied? I'm in Block 35 so couldn't see.

My lad got there early and texted me to say his QR code didn't work and he had to go to the ticket office. I got there at 13:40 and got in to the ground at 14:20. My QR code didn't work but my mate has a spare kids ticket and I went in on that

The new scanners in the Chapel seemed to read the bar codecs quickly enough but then it took a few seconds before they cleared to allow the next person to scan. Those additional seconds made the passage through the turnstiles into a crawl and seemed to me to cause a significant part of the delays.

Blackmore said on Solent that it was a problem that the club only discovered today but there were unusually long queues at Gate E in the Chapel for the Bilbao game too, so that doesn’t seem to ring true to me.

In any event, don’t they test them in advance? They must know how many people per minute they need to get everyone in in time.

I watched more than one person who arrived in the 15 mins before kick off take one look at the queues and turn on their heels.

And I didn’t see any of the anticipated Covid checks being done, which would have slowed things even more.

Some big challenges ahead for the stadium to get things moving properly for future games. Let’s hope the scanners can be speeded up!

I did notice that the brand of the new scanners was ‚LD scanners‘...

...just kidding.

The covid checks being a complete farce because there are just too many people trying to get in, so they might as well not bother with it. The plan for it to be mandatory in October, just won't work. People will still turn up 20 minutes before the games and will expect to get in.for the game. Today, all covid checks were abandoned as they will be for future games when people are at risk of missing the game, so it's completely pointless.

In our part of the ground a steward eventually opened the gate and let everyone in. He glanced at my ticket but didn't scan it. That was about 5 minutes after kick off. Up until then nobody seemed to be doing anything. They clearly didn't have a clue what to do. Why wasn't the match delayed? Presumably it would have upset Sky's precious schedule but if there'd been a stampede for the gates (unlikely at SM I know, but such things have happened elsewhere) and someone had got injured the ramifications would have been severe. I'm pleased we're getting a refund but I think the club also owe the players a big debt of gratitude cos if we'd lost that game the club would have been absolutely slaughtered over today's fiasco. As it was I think the club got off lightly.

How is Nick going to blame the fans for this?

You couldn’t make it up. The club rightly say that covid has hit them hard as tickets are a key revenue stream and then the first game back and it’s refunds for everyone. Seriously you just can’t make up these levels of incompetency. Any new system for something as important as this should be checked and checked again. Hopefully the club have outsourced it and will get the money back from a contractor.

The club seem to have outsourced everything they possibly can!!!
As for queueing it was diabolical. I thought it was for the COVID check
Being one of the few thar received my ticket on time I then faced 25 mins getting in to miss the kick off by a minute or so. The scanner took about 3 attempts before letting me in.

Don't understand why they needed to upgrade the system, the old one worked fine, cards for st/members (easy to load games to) paper tickets for everyone else (physical or print at home). Why do we need QR codes, they are known for problems if the screen is not bright enough or dirty.
If I understand the club's stance next season there will be no cards /tickets at all just QR codes on your mobile or print at home QR codes?

the scanners seem to be the problem, they've had similar issues at Anfield

I’m block five, the queue just before KO was insane, our lot got in through block 8 (I think) where there was little or no queue just stewards losing the will to live. Some clambered up through corporate to get to block five whilst we played dumb with the stewards feigned ignorance and we were escorted to the exit doors next to the turnstiles we normally use and we made it in with a minute or so on the clock. Absolute shambles. Six seats vacant in front of us and a family of four were placed there at half time. Regular mush who sits behind us said that someone was sat in his seat with a valid ticket, it had been double booked ffs!
If we’d stayed in the queue I think we’d have got in at about 2.30/40. As it was we’d agreed that we’d slip off back to the pub if that looked likely.

COVID protocol for entry was non existent too.
