That was an experiment by SWT to have the buses delivered unpainted. They looked really nice for a while, but the aluminium didn't like the sea air and they soon tarnished and started to look scruffy, and they were eventually painted red.

It was on the land that now houses the LC2 and stretched towards the Civic Centre. Opposite and just the town side of Tescos, were the sheds that held the Mumbles train terminus. Victoria station became Fyffes Bananas depot after it closed as a commercial station.

Would a lot of fans visiting the vetch have arrived there rather than the High Street?

I would imagine so, particularly from outlying areas like Gowerton, Gorseinon and Pontarddulais. I don't know how well the trains were used back then, probably not enough, leading to the demise of many lines under Beeching.

The Victoria Club was there as well. A lot of the railway workers and some of the coal merchants drank there - and me.

The reason I asked is because I would have thought the line and station that close to the dock lands would have been used more for carrying cargo than passengers. But it would have been far more handy for the vetch than the high street.

We went on a guided walk up Clyne Valley a few years ago as part of the now defunct Gower Walking Festival. Some evidence of the railway tracks and industrial activity is still there if you know where to look for it.

Not sure if they have been made safe now but there used to be quite a few uncapped mineshafts there if you went off the main paths

It would be great if the powers that be built a statue of Marciano and put it on the car park at Mumbles. It would be fitting as the centenary of his birth is coming up soon and a tribute to all the GI's who were stationed here . It would help generate interest in Mumbles as well . The Mumbles train should be brought back too.
