Cooper is now worrying me 10:12 - Feb 9 with 6453 viewsNotLoyal

Yesterday we were 2-1 up, based on I would say HT talk, slight change in formation, we were pushing on the back four and it worked.
However, at 2-1 Cocu changed his formation and tactics, two subs on and Rooney pushed forwards maybe ten metres. This totally stuffed us, it was blatantly obvious from that point Derby had the flexibility to change and it paid off. Albeit from mistakes in midfield by us, Routledge especially. Cooper didn’t react, there was nothing, no matching Cocu’s changes, we just dropped back, gave the ball away and lost the game. This for me was down to Cooper and Marsh, they seemed devoid of any ability to at least redress the balance. Game to game I am getting increasingly worried by Cooper and his tactical nouse in game time. I know he is new to this, and it’s now clear we won’t be challenging for any top 6 spot unless something drastically changes. I’m worried.

And I will add an edit, we didn’t give Rooney anything other than respect yesterday, three hard challenges from 3 separate players and a bit of bite and he would have faded from the game. Instead we may have well passed the ball to him ... oh hang on.

Was another disappointing game that was thrown away in the second half when we ran out of ideas and legs.
When we take the lead we just sit back on it, Derby grew into the game second half and once again Cooper had no answer. From when they equalised it was only ever going to be Derby who won the game.

So he's gone by October then. Our form for the last 5 months is not top half.

19th in the form table since 1st September (25 games). Thank fugg for August.

Yup - probably still need a handful of points but fully expect us to finish much closer to 20th than 6th!

I expect us to beat Luton and Hull but from the other 13 games... We'll need big improvement if Cooper is to surpass final Potter's points total as people were crowing about him at the midway point.

Their defence, goalie and the granny shagger looked very uncomfortable when pressurised quickly during the game.
Then we were either knackered or couldn't be bothered.

A lot of points made by all in this thread make a lot of sense.
We won't be relegated but I don't expect us now to be challenging the play off positions either.
Going to struggle to finish above our Eastern cousins IMHO and after watching the dire sh1te they play, shows how far we have fallen off the pace since finally losing an away game.
Thankfully our away form has been excellent for a lot of the season- a draw away from home is a good result, providing you're winning your home games. Looking at the stats Badlands put up, it is the away form that has helped keeping us nearer the top end of the table.

Trouble is, do we sack YET another manager or do we stick and hope that things can turn around in the summer?
Change coaches/ scouts and stick with Cooper?
Change the lot in yet another gamble we can pick the right manager?
I really don't think we have the players to bring in a Crapduff type manager and change our system "to kick the skin off the ball and players" type game

Club needs to find the right manager and scouting team for sure.
But if I remember rightly, an awful lot of posters here were creaming themselves on the fact that 'ickle Leon was helping choose the manager and he'd see us right.
Mmmm.
Oh dear.

If you wake up breathing, thats a good start to your day and you'll make many thousands of people envious.

His lack of changes in game, not using substitutes and just general team selection is baffling.
I expect us to stay up, due to our early results, but we will more than likely slide towards the bottom.

Will be without VDH, Naughton, Dyer, Gallagher, Brewster, Wilmott, Woodman, Mulder. Plus potential departures of Ayew & Rodon.
Will need a more experienced manager to deal with the fallout of that.

The more I reflect on this, the bigger the problem this man and his coaches become. We are trapped with them now, probably for 3 years, as we watch what could be a decent team, growing in belief, style and confidence, just being f*cked over by his utter ineptitude and inability to realise that doing the same thing over and over and failing over and over is a definition of insanity.

Just got to keep fingers crossed that he learns. He's shown no real sign of it so far though. His 'football' will probably not get us relegated but we are going nowhere and it will complete our transition to boring dog team. Wasted opportunity.

I still do not understand why our sporting Director has not sat with him and perhpas involved our President to give him some benefit of their experience and views.....after all they were involved with his appointment....obviously saw something which struck a chord with the "swansea way"....

That said whilst Saturdays result was dissapoininting we did play some attractive football,we could have /should have been at least one goal up before their goal....we creatd lots of scoring opportunities yet as always failed to take mpost of them and then mistakes and rookie defending cost us the points

If we win tomorrow night, the fans in the East Stand will be giving applause when Cooper comes over to do his fist bumps.

When we win, Cooper is the man to take us forward.
When we lost, Cooper has to go.

After the wins against Charlton and Wigan almost everyone I spoke to considered us to have been very lucky and were not convinced Cooper has the answers.
Some give him the benefit of the doubt as a new manager at this level and he's learning ... IMO he isn't learning he just shuffles players a bit with the same results.
Some are still making excuses for him by blaming others for lack of investment when in reality he has brought inlayers he thinks he can work with.

Absolutely not true from my seat. Another dogsit performance and a lucky hang on for grim death win like Charlton and Wigan, and he can shove his fist pumps up his arse. Actually he can anyway. Bloke is a fraud. He might get better but, like Monks lucky 1-0 smash and grabs this is taking us nowhere except a worse place.

You are certainly right about the likely fans reaction though.

3-0 win dominating them, controlling the game with smart use of substitutes, and I'll be doing fist pumps.

There's nothing wrong with fans celebrating a win in the moment and then continuing to moan in the cold light of day.

There's also nothing wrong with finding his fist-pumping after a narrow win over Charlton's reserves an embarrassment.

If this is a true reflection on cooper by supporters he is most certainly not going to last even if it does cost money. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a clever clause in his contract regards his release and performance issues.

When people say Cooper suits the "Swansea Way" I think they are referring to "cheap & cheerful" and hoping for a miracle.
What I find odd is that the majority of fans on here can see the problems and know most of the remedies, but a so called top coach and budding manager not only can't see it but doesn't think anything needs changing.
I am sure that his time with the best young players in the country (trained by their home clubs) when he ran the England U17s team and won the World Cup makes him think he knows what he is doing.
When in fact he appears not only clueless as a manager but also judging by our players footballing decline a crap coach to boot.

Yes, I’d agree with this. We do play attractive football at times, but can rarely sustain it for more than a couple of minutes before reverting to our more passive style.

He certainly doesn’t fit the mould of 30 pass moves that gradually drag opponents out of position and end up in a chance.

I’m sure he isn’t stupid and can see everything the average fan can and far more. I just don’t think he’s got the balls or the imagination to put it right. He’s probably thinking he’s better off with a mid table finish than taking a risk.

One of the main reasons we can't keep our passing style going is because players without the ball only move sideways across the pitch and don't work to get into space or create space.
There was one passage o play from Derby that highlighted how static we are.
Derby players manoeuvred Byers, Grimes and Naughton and left a big space in front of the dugout and towards the corner flag. Lawrence pointed where he want the ball played and the defender with the rolled it in to the space for Lawrence to walk on to. It's what we used to do.
One old wag near me has compared our movement with a game of table football.
