Jamie's Italian 20:35 - Feb 12 with 5275 viewsbuilthjack

£71.5 million in debt. Yet he is worth £150 million and he wont have to put a penny in. So, so wrong.
If I owed money I would have to pay it back or have the bailiffs knocking.
Mind you, they have all done it, Branson, Cowell, too many to mention.

It's amazing how much debt there is in catering and hospitality......without them we wouldn't eat so that is why debt is allowed to run up.....File under Carillion

Heard he just put his name on it to brand it as he is so popular and well known, some other guy actually owns it, can’t recall his name....

There are 7 active directors, including Oliver, and his wife.

One inCardiff is poor. One in Liverpool very good. Surprised there was so
Much variation within a chain

A bit over priced for what it is.

I'm intrigued by his barbecoa steak place though, although for that money you could go to either Santa Maria Del Sur or get a lunchtime deal at Galvin or LeGavroche

I went to that one on the evening of stag do after a day of drinking. Wouldn’t have been my choice and we had to leave a big tip after the stag quietly had a bottle of red wine and the fish of the day to himself…before bringing it back up absolutely everywhere. One of the worst scenes I’ve ever witnessed.

Bit overpriced?

Not only is it stupidly expensive for a bog standard chain restaurant but the food is just crap and I'm not remotely suprised it's on its last legs. There's no town in the UK where you wouldn't find Italian food ten times better for half the price.

All of his restaurants are awful value. He's having to shut loads of them down - not only the Italian but also the pizza one (Union Jacks) and the deli type thing as well.

Barbecoa btw was closed for a day or so by the hygiene people not long ago to get them to clean up the mouse droppings etc so I wouldn't be too intrigued...

Some of them are franchises (even in the UK). All the overseas ones are franchises. They just have to use the menu.

Went there years ago when it first opened. Average and overpriced.

Are they still not selling pizzas in his 'Italian'?

Not heard great things about it. The Liverpool Italian seems
to have a lot of specials and a good lunch deal. There are better places but my kids love it. Of the chains I find Wahaca and Wagamama are decent. Not been to Cote or Byron’s as excellent independent alternatives nearby.

Been there once, only because the wife wanted to try it for lunch and they give you a free bottle of prosecco on your birthday. So many better places in the city centre including very small Italian places down back lanes and alleys you probably would never know about, but they’ve been there for donkeys years. Marco Pierre Shite has just opened his rooftop restaurant, be interested to see what that’s like.
