Is that picture definitely from today? if so, why are the rugby lines still so prominent?

Note the bloke wearing this season's Errea bench coat.

Picture of the full pitch on the story on Southend's site. It's staggeringly bad going off that.

Note their apologies to supporters too.

Take away the stands and it could be a park Sunday League pitch anywhere. Take away the white lines and it could just be a park on a flood plain.

Something needs doing and quickly. It might have rained a bit over the last week but not enough to make a pitch that waterlogged.

We have no money remember to improve the pitch, sign players, improve facilities etc etc. Everything this season has been embarrassing and today is no different. Can’t think of a time in the 35 years I have followed us I have ever been more disenchanted.

Lovely winter's afternoon out now, perfect conditions for a game of football...

This game would've been played on the old surface during the 60s/70s. With modern pitch technology and theories, something has gone missing from the very basics of playing surfaces

Oh fair enough, I had no idea they invested in rain covers. On the picture I saw this morning it just looked like a plastic sheet covering the pitch

They haven`t. They don`t seem to know what rain covers are.

As mentioned earlier, the state of the pitch was one of the questions sent to the Trust to be asked at their meeting with the club.

The club themselves have a responsibility to produce something ahead of that meeting or any further request for an explanation though, they should WANT to be doing that for their supporters.

I fully expect that to happen.

We should be getting answers today not waiting for a meeting with a club. It's a disgrace that our pitch is Luke this, no apology, no statement on our tinpot twitter account.

With the pictures knocking around showing the state of the pitch,it's show how low our club has dropped, but come May again it will be #teamrochdale crap again.

If hornets play on it tomorrow we really are in huge trouble!

What a bummer of a day - and now Northampton are winning

And the wombles

Looking a big big ask to retain our league 1 status.

If that’s the case it’s an indication that they don’t expect the pitch to be playable in 24 hours time.

With that in mind, what was different this time yesterday?

Maybe this will be explained in due course.

Still no apology?

Does anybody know how much it cost last season to relay the pitch? If we stick with this one there will be more postponements, that's unavoidable. Tally up the cost of replacing Saturday afternoon matches with Tuesday evening ones, added to the lost income from the more than likely relegation (as opposed to at least giving us a chance if we had a good playing surface!), and relaying the pitch now surely has to be seen as the best option.

And that's just from a financial point of view. I've not even touched on the other implications of having a pitch like that such as any likely injuries, how it represents the absolute antithesis of the style of football that we've become to be known, the sheer unprofessionalism, the appalling lack of respect for fans (when we have situations like today), and what a joke it makes us look like.

I remember Hill being apoplectic about the state of Rotherham's Don Valley pitch a few years ago. There was something about a nail being found on it, but he also hugely criticised the actual pitch. Ours is far worse than that now, so I'd like to hear Hill's thoughts on the situation. Or the board's. Or in fact can anyone from the club tell us what's going on? What is the plan with regards to this pitch? Because there needs to be one.

Now, now, let's not ask for too much. Such basics take time.

Even now, I'd be very surprised if they didn't release a statement very soon. That it could and should have been online by now is to the club's detriment. But that's on them. Every hour that passes reflects incredibly badly on them, but they still have an opportunity to at least look like they want to build bridges with a VERY loyal fanbase.

In the meantime, there's lots of info on the Youth Team game with an interview too. Super.
