Gomis was one of Laudrup's targets - and when Jenkins didn't get him, he was not best pleased.

Hence why he didn't pick Bony for a long, long time.

The way Gomis plays, doesn't surprise me if he was a Laudrup target. Suited his system much better than Monkball.

No scouts involved, just Huw Jenkins, which is and always will be the problem.

Best post of 2017 with Pinocchio trying to play football manager with a real team.

I agree with other posters in that every club has good and bad transfers. Just look at how Moussa Sissoko was valuated at £30 million in Tottenham's eyes for the worst deal in Summer.

Swansea's biggest problem, rather sadly, was Michu. We found a gem on the cheap and all of a sudden that's the excuse for Big Nose Jenkins' ego to explode and the money to stay in pocket thinking that he was a bargain master.

Let's no get too critical, since Michu we certainly have made some fantastic transfers. As maligned as he was Gomis put in a few good goals; free transfer. Andre Ayew saved us last season; free transfer. Mawson is looking to be the future of ours and potentially England's defence; £5 million Huw Jenkins Special. Olsson/Carroll; yet more Jenkins' Specials. Fabianski; free transfer.

Now you could go on and match that with terrible transfers (need I mention Borja, Tabanou et al) but the point remains that sometimes chances must be taken. The sad case with Matty Grimes is that he should never have been pegged as the next Swansea big find when our first team squad was struggling badly. Money could have been saved and put towards CURRENT talent.

I think the Americans see that at least. I hope they do anyway.

Some of the players you mentioned may be classed as "free" transfers but they were only free in the sense that their former club didn't get any money from us. The players certainly did well otherwise they wouldn't have come here.

Will most likely be playing in the Eerste Divisie very soon

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Jenkins found Michu? No he didn't . He's got no qualifications whatsoever to be gambling the clubs money on players "he" thinks are suitable.

How much has he cost over the years? Don't see the point myself in funding all these billy big bollocks to spin round filming themselves listening to hip hop in their sports cars knowing they won't ever get near the first team. Daniel Alfei was on the books for 6 years. He now plays for Aberystwyth Town.

Would say Dan James would have a better chance, Gorre has been on loan to Den Haag Flopped, on loan at Northampton Flopped. 1 goal in 18 league appearances, doesn't catch the eye anywhere near the likes of James. Is apparently on wages in excess of £5000 a week so Jenkins needs to justify that so in answer to your question ability wise no, opportunity wise yes.

Spot on mate, yet the head in sand brigade always said " in huw we trust" when many sensible people on here and elsewhere could see the cluster fook of a situation snowballing by the premier league season.

Our best signings in the prem league were from Laudrup, we payed the going rate for the likes of Ayew,Gomis(laudrup target anyway) Fernandez ,bony and fabianski.

I've yet to see any team sign the quality of ..

Michu
Chico
Pablo
JDG
Amat

All of those players above are IMO as good as or better then

Siggy
Fernandez
Montero
Ki
VDH/Mawson

The second group cost around £32m the first group cost £11m the second group has got us relegated the first group won us trophies and took apart Valencia and others in europe.

We've paid 3 times the money to make the team 3 times poorer thats a fact nobody can argue with.

It's not rocket science really. If Grimes, Rory Donnelly ,Barrow were any good they would have been snapped up by bigger clubs than us, Liverpool and Everton passed on Donelly and Spurs passed on Grimes .

Why did our scouts think different?

To put this waste of space Grimes into perspective, he cost us more than Wayne Routledge and Scott sinclair never mind half the rest of our squad!

All the money wasted on players like Obeng, who were driving around in Audi R8 ,Grimes,Barrow and countless more must run into at least £10m yet another total waste of money. shameful

If Kante was any good he'd have signed directly for Chelsea and never gone to Leicester at all according to that logic. Man Utd would never have released Pogba, Keane or any number of others. It's a deeply simplistic way of looking at things.

Scouts are human, with their own opinions and values. What one scout likes in a player another won't.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Don't disagree with your overall point, but Amat better than Mawson?

Chico had a mistake in him just as much as Fernandez does. Pablo was the far better player, but his injury record makes even Montero look like Ashley Williams.

Pablo Hernandez played more than 60 games across two seasons for us. His injury record has always been overstated. Certainly he's far more robust than Montero.

Yes, but every time he picked up a little niggle he would miss a game or two then take four or five games to get his sharpness back. He never played well after an injury.

With his natural ability, he wouldn't have gone on to play in the desert and the Championship if he was robust.

He claimed to have found him, no different to West Ham stating they tracked all the good players we had a few years back. Michu was obviously straight from Laudrups contacts.

According to Wiki he played 57 times for us but the relevant question would be how many league games did he start for us in that time?

The answer would be not enough.

Michu was hawked around wasn't he? Top goal scoring midfielder in la Liga (I think) for £2m. It's hardly a master stroke whoever signed him. Just amazed no one else took the chance.

Let me help. Clearly Icecold is correct by any measure.

We are Swansea City, we have to sure how we spend our money, or we are screwed.
Man City can say all scouts are human cos they have arab oil money. We have the Trust.

We waste £10m plus then we could get relegated.
Different with Man City.

I think failures at first team level happens.
I think non first team kids on thousands of pounds a week and sports cars has failed us big time. Not good for the kids either. And blocks our local talent out.

You can go back to Obeng and Donnelly and every non first team bought in player has failed - the exception is Kingsley.

Gorre, grimes, barrow, keeper vickers, bray, hedges etc etc plus lower profile players like Tom Holland - brought in from man city - now at Fylde. Yes Fylde.
Hard to get it more wrong.

Beware of the Risen People
