Ash on 21:49 - Aug 2 by londonlisa2001 | How interesting. Seems like 'Mr Swansea' had negotiated a deal before the club had accepted a bid then. Agent tells the media it's happening. Club turn bid down. Oh dear. Well done Huw. If he wants to go for this 'new challenge' (aka more money) then make them pay what we want. Otherwise, he's two more years. Increased bid tomorrow? |

Probably on the money there, Lis. However, I can't see them going above £10m so we could be cutting our noses off... Not to mention a sulky captain.

Ash on 21:42 - Aug 2 by AnotherJohn | A lot of pundits were saying that £10M was underwhelming - regardless of age. There was more in that deal for Everton than for us. At a higher price the decision might be different. |
'Not looking to sell him and therefore we have turned down the offer currently on the table' Kind of tells it's own story. We have avoided 'not for sale'. Either way, it looked like we were selling him for £10m an hour ago. From that position I'd be happy to either keep him or sell him for more. Provided it goes towards recruitment

Footballers might be extravagant mate but he could probably get a taxi for £200

Ash on 22:09 - Aug 2 with 2426 views | blaine_scfc | Strange one this. He wouldn't have been discussing terms with them unless a fee had been agreed. I know football clubs don't always play by the rules, but I can't see Ash going behind the clubs back, especially as it has now gone public, we would be making complaints. Either we have changed the goalposts at the last minute, or Everton have. If the reports are correct and he's looking for a new challenge, get the £15 million and reinvest in squad. Probably not as straight forward however as I assume they could get Fonte for cheaper. [Post edited 2 Aug 2016 22:17]

Reports say that Southampton are offering Fonte an improved contract. I think a lot on the board over-estimate the appeal of £10M in the new post-TV deal environment. Everton have been knocked back on a few deals if you look at various Toffees websites. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Ash on 22:21 - Aug 2 with 2316 views | stid | Personally think the board have done that just to show to us fans they have not planned to sell...Just like the did with Ayew
Ash on 22:22 - Aug 2 with 2304 views | Dyfnant | Everton probably have man city chasing them with the £50M cheque for Stones and Everton want the replacement in ready. Good position for us to squeeze a few million more

So the 'dramatic twist' is that the story the same news outlet published yesterday had no truth behind it.

I think we're just sending a message to the agents - we won't be backed into a corner. May be a first sign of this new 'financial muscle' . He'll go. The deal will be sweetened a bit and he'll go. A powerful message though. We're prepared to call his bluff and keep him for two years if necessary and give up £10m. Very strong statement from the new owners - we wouldn't have done it before. This is exactly the way clubs like Southampton have behaved for ages, which is why they get more money for their players. [Post edited 2 Aug 2016 22:58]

So was Bob Latchford I'm told, and Robbie James, then Mark Harris, keith walker, Lee trundle etc etc etc. Just people paid to represent our club, end.
