He was our best player. The only person who can actually play a top quality pass in our team.

We definitely have to be the worst crossers of the ball in the league.

Our best player for me. Had a bit of a wobble at the end, but he did well to keep going as long as he did being surrounded by that garbage. And why oh why was Jack popping up in the box and JJS sitting deep?! All over the place tonight. Completely lost sight of it being a team game which requires some energy and intensity.

Our best player for me too. He's the only creative spark we have and he tries things. The rest of the team apart from Rangel need to up their game or we'll struggle and this could just be the season.

I do think Cork-Ki is the best midfield pairing, but against Villa we need to get grab the game by the scruff of the neck and get forward as much as we can, hence why I would play Shelvey-Ki.

Actually I think Shelvey and Cork were the main part of our problem. Failed to get control of the midfield, didn't move the ball quickly at all and all too often shipped the ball either backwards or forcing the wingers to check back.

Cork had a great run into the box, sight on goal and he played it out wide to Jeff

JJS was the only one playing through balls. Time and again he took control and then looked to get us on the attack.

Did he? All I saw was him taking 4,5,6 touches and then passing it sideways.

That for me is the problem. Our strengths over recent times have been the speed with which we get the ball to players who can do damage around the box and put people in positions where they can attack. That has been noticeably conspicuous by its absence lately.

Yep, not sure why he kept on popping up in the box. If he and JJS were supposed to be rotating they got it wrong between them. If Garry gave instructions for JJS to sit and Cork to get forward, he needs a holiday. In an institution

It's easy to blame the ball carrier but our movement is poor or non existent most of the time.

When Stoke had the ball there were players running into space giving the ball carrier options.

Just look at the complete disinterest that heralds our every throw in.

Our throw ins- no movement. Our free kicks, corners, awful. Shelley should not be taking the free kicks, it's like watching the big kid in the playground grabbing the ball and taking them. It's needs sorting.

Neither Jonjo or Cork were building from deep. Cork was marked most of the time our defenders had the ball, Jonjo was standing on the half way line.

Things improved as soon as Ki came on. He was able to get the ball off the defenders and build some play.

I'm not sure it's a Monk thing. We've always seemed to just go one or two up for a throw in. Same under Rodgers. Didn't have the issue in the 2nd division mainly because of multiball.

I mostly saw him turn and look forwards. A few nice passes into the channels for the wingers. A couple of cheeky balls round the corner for Bafe to mess up. Balls into Siggy when he came on. I thought JJS was our standout player (not hard).

We didn't do it much under Laudrup.

Probably was the same under Rodgers. I've said a few times that Monk seemed to want to emulate him to begin with, although the impression is wearing a little thin.

That's a personnel thing I think though. Pabs and Johnny D were great at being an option, ditto Dyer and Routledge. We don't have that sort of movement there at the moment, which I can only assume is by design as the personnel isn't so different.

Leon, Leon, Leon!

He'd have no problems sweeping in front of the back 4 still. Can't see him being picked ahead of Jack, Shelvey or Ki. Must be really frustrating for someone like Leon who's been the heartbeat of our team watching that crap. The newer signings aren't looking like upgrades on the old guard at the moment (better individually, but not as a team).

We still miss Johnny D.
