Alistair cook has surely got to be for the chop now 17:40 - Jul 20 with 10067 viewswillis1980

Awful captaincy and equally abismal form, as it stands england can't afford both lack of leadership and runs. God knows who can replace him at this point but he's not cutting the mustard

But who? The Vaughan/ Strauss dynasty has left a real hole in captaincy credentials. Broad is I guess the obvious choice.

One thing the Cook demise has papered over is the Bell conundrum. The guy is bang out of form and bang out of position, I really question why captain after captain, selector after selector has omitted him from the #3 spot? Has escape any criticism in any way shape or form whilst the finger has pointed at Cook.

Well it's a difficult one. Bell is so superior to everybody else we have, he's hard to drop.

But he almost always does sod all. No point being a brilliant batsmen if you can't score runs.

Give Root the job for the rest of the summer, see how he gets on. If he does okay (he cannot possibly be worse than captain clueless) tell him it's his for as long as he wants it.

Poll: Which is the worst QPR team?

Not sure if it'd work but it did seem to work for smith and the proteas

I'd like to know what Moore's is doing? On day 1 cook ordered plunkett to bowl round the wicket to tail enders. Why did Moore's not send out instructions to cook to say "what are you doing?"
Is this now the way we play cricket?

For the next Test I would ;

1. Bring Buttler in for Prior
2. Bring Jordan in for Broad (rest him)
3. Keep Cook as captain for now, on the basis there are no outstanding candidates to replace him (I think when he does get in he will go large and get a big hundred)
4. Cook to remain as opener with Robson
5. Buttler to bat at no. 7

Despite England's dismal capitulation yesterday, the options cupboard is quite bare, so for now we need to persevere with what we have.

Batting: Since KP's exit and the introduction of several new batsmen, one area where England are lacking is flair players who can take the attack to India - Bell is the closest we have to this, but his form is as patchy as Cook's recently. May need to look at Morgan again at no. 5/6 with Root possibly moving up to open again.

Bowling: Anderson and Broad look jaded. Would consider bringing Jordan and Finn back (for Plunkett). Also might be worth taking a look at a specialist spinner before the end of this series.

England are in the bottom of a cycle. All sides visit such a place from time to time.

I don't rate Robson so would like to see Hales open with Cook , he is dynamic and would take the pressure off Cook by scoring quickly and allowing Cook to play his way in

Butler in for Prior

Spinner - Think it would be unfair to give one of youngsters ago especially when they can be blooded in the West Indies next spring so I would go for Monty

Monty won't be playing for a while, appears to have gone off the rails

If Hales is averaging 51 with 2 hundreds in first class cricket it surely has to be worth a try-he could do for our top order what the likes of Warner and Finch have done for the Aussies and f--k the opposition up right from the start. If it doesn't work we've barely lost anything as Cook is a walking wicket for the other side at the moment.
