According to jackb religion is ok as long as you don't call it religion. If you hadn't noticed this is a forum, whether religions is all b0llocks is what is up for discussion. You'd think you'd understand that after all the irate ranting you do on here. Maybe should try the angry misanthropes forum, or you can follow bastardo to the 'blissfully unaware of my own stupidity' forum.

Regarding your two hoped-for forums, "Angry Misanthropes" and "Blissfully Unaware of my own Stupidity," there's no hope of getting them added to PlanetSwans.

I can't even get a simple and potentially noteworthy "Guesses" forum. And it would easily beat SCFS2's "Rumours" forum in the ratings race.

Good luck, though. We need all three of them!

Desperately.

Ok for example there was no proof at all that pontius pilate existed. In the late 50's Archeologists dug up a roman triumphal arch which named pontius pilate gave his position of authority exactly as described in the bible and placed him in Jerusalem in 33 ce
A roman historian who was not a Christian also vouched for the veracity of Jesus existence...and if he did not exist why did people give up thair lived in the Roman arena when they could go free if they denounced their Christianity just a few decades after Jesus died

Yeah all the jesus christ being excuted as a traitor to the empire is well established in history, he's found on the old ledgers and that. There was a criminal called Jesus christ who was killed for being a danger to the state.

I think the abuse of children by adults with those tendencies doesn't just happen in religious organizations. Well I know it, it is an indisputable fact. The recent children's homes scandals, the BBC scandal and the inquiry into politician's activities during the Thatcher era are just a few examples but don't let that stop you.

Paedophiles are extremely cunning and manipulative and weasel their way into positions of trust for the sole aim of easy access to children.

I agree wholeheartedly that the Catholic Church in particular by moving priests who abused to different parishes should be investigated to make sure that those in positions of authority (Bishops etc) were not of the same orientation and therefore turning a blind eye to it. Every organisation mentioned needs a full unfettered intensive root and branch enquiry and all of these wicked people need jailing and for a very long time.

This will hopefully be my last contribution to this thread as I find the hate red and vitriol aimed at people with a religious faith rather rabid if you want the honest truth.

Perhaps that's why religion appeals to me, believers are less fanatical and less hateful than some of you atheists seem to be.

The abuse of kids starts surprisingly early - and normally by the parents. The kids trust their parents 100%, yet the parents abuse this trust by filling their heads full of myths proclaimed as fact.

Religion is one big abuse of someone, anyone and everyone.

I'm close friends with someone who is as a devoted christian as you can probably get these days. Incredibly humble and clean living guy, due to his faith I might add. He's helped myself and many others, countless times, of which I have no doubt is borne out of his belief and faith. As a person I can only aspire to match him sometimes.

Can you explain how is he being abused? Maybe he should drop it all and become a c**t, because the world is short of those.

Religion has been here since the dawn of time, bad things have happened in the world since the dawn of time. They would still happen regardless if anyone was religious or not.

Religion been there since the dawn of time you say?

Or is it lack of understanding that resulted in early primitive man assuming an all powerful god was responsible for things such as the sun rising in the morning?

You may want to look it up - you'll find the latter (such as a god for making the sun set was the Egyptian got Set).

And I can guarantee he lives under a false hope that when he dies he'll go to a place in the sky. His head is full of fairy tales. Ask him whether he believes in evolution, the big bang etc...

If you want to claim the high ground on this because you "know a guy" than you should know that I too have helped many people. I've raised thousands for various charities such as Welsh Air Ambulance, Ty Hafan, RSPCA, NSPCC and various others. I've helped people in need and given money and food to the homeless - yet I'm an atheist!!!! So here's what I put to you - is it religion that makes me good too? Or simply my sense of humanity?!

I'm totally intolerant to religion. It's unnecessary and blinkers the progress of humanity.

So I was right then. You're intolerant of religion, of other people's right to believe in what they want to believe in. You think that what you believe is right and you condemn anyone who doesn't agree with you. The very definition of intolerance. Atheism is just your religion, the metaphorical stick you use to beat religious people with. I can see you knocking doors on a Saturday morning with your leaflet entitled "Why you're wrong if you believe in God" and hectoring people, Dawkins-style until they're brow beaten or just stop answering the door. You are fanatical and uncompromising in your pursuit of your ideals. A zealot. You have far more in common with religious fundamentalists of all kinds.

Just for clarity, I'm not religious in any way.

What moral high ground? You've stated quite clearly, with your big ol tarring brush that religion abuses everyone. There are many people in the world that it simply doesn't, and there are many, many people that benefit from organisations such as Christian Aid that are out in god forsaken war torn lands helping others, simply because that is what their faith told them to do.. Maybe they should all drop what their doing, because they're their on false pretences.

You're no less an extremist than those that profess that their religion is the one and only, and that anything else needs to be wiped off the planet. Quite apt.

You seem to have not provided an answer to my questions... please re-read and try again.

The people that benefit from religion? The only people to really benefit from religion are the religious organisations. Seen the homes of some of the more popular preachers?

You need to look past religion! People helping people is called humanity, and is the characteristic of a civilised species. Religion just suppositions the term "good" is exclusive to those who do believe in a god. So why do I contribute so much time and money to charities as an atheist? I've seen Chimpanzees help other Chimpanzees, and wilderbeast help others in distress too in the wild - does this mean they are religious too!?? Your argument is preposterous at best.

And you call me an extremist when I simply would just like to see people live for themselves and for their families/friends, and not for a false deity and religious organisation who's pure aim is to raise money and power.

Let's put it this way...

If you had a baby, and a man came up and cut off your baby's foreskin, then started sucking your baby's penis... would that make you a great dad?

If you had a child who looked up to you, wanting to learn the world and discover, and you do the opposite by teaching your child that everything is the creation of a god and you must serve or go to hell... would this make you a great role model?

Why can't people live for themselves and others, and not in the name of a myth? Did the world end when people stopped worshipping Zeus?

And don't call me a fukking zealot (if you know what it means). Not once have I stated people shouldn't believe what they want. I value this ability ffs. You clearly do not understand - so I will make this clear for you:

I object strongly when these 'beliefs' in the make believe affect the lives of others!

For instance:-

* Why are religious organisations and anything pertaining to be a religious organisation exempt from tax? The earnings from these organisations will surely go a long way to helping the community and public services would it not?

* Why are children pushed into religion when they are at their most susceptible?! Religion is a lifestyle choice, and should be a decision made by an adult individual who is old enough to make their informed decision on the path they wish to take!

* Why are there so many government and systematic policies revolving around religion? And more importantly, why is the Church regularly involved in politics! (You may be interested by the amount of influence they actually have!).

* I have absolutely no objection to Gay marriages - yet the religious organisations have been so vocal in their efforts to prevent this up until recently. And this makes me a zealot, infringing on other people's rights?

* Think hunger is the only problem in Africa? HIV/AIDS is running riot because the africans (who were brainwashed into western religion by missionaries) are told they cannot use a condom on religious grounds? So many more people will catch the killer disease, and many more babies will be born with it too!

* Child abuse brushed under the carpet, and any police investigations hindered at the orders of the church and vatican! And this doesn't include any other religions where there is no doubt child abuse happening regularly!

You may not be religious but you're either on the fence or happy just to let people be screwed over. This is only a small fraction of the issues I have with religion as a whole.

Look past religion and you will start to see it for the bullshit it really is. It's a smoke shield for a shady global organisation! Dislikes banks? Religion is far, far worse!

Anyway - back to point, keep your eyes closed to that around you. Keep complaining that banks are ruining the country and tax increases, whilst keeping quiet about the shit that goes on in the name of religion (and the affect this has on people).

When I was a kid I was a good friend to a boy who was raised strictly religious. He was burned with boiling water and fire when he was caught doing kids stuff that was not allowed within their parents strict view of religion. Over 68% scarring to his body remains. He's an atheist now - he didn't chose religion and didn't sign up to his parents view of "being a good person". So carry on as you are sitting on the fence - just closing your eyes to it all. ECB is no c*nt, he's just a tolerant man who believes in live and let live. Unlike you.
Your a modern day Atheist version of Saul of Tarsus, hell bent on proving your viewpoint is the only correct view and persecuting anyone who'd dare disagree. Religion can be repudiated by any child who reaches adulthood and if there really is no God why can't you just be satisfied that you're right instead of playing the self righteous card all of the time?
Your self image is clearly very important to you.
