Admin Charge 11:09 - Jan 21 with 3274 viewsnordenblue

Just received an email from the club about the cup game being all ticket etc, which is a good start but why is there an admin charge of £2 per purchase over the phone?I could understand if it was a minimum spend type of cost, seem to remember a debate about the charges connected to card payments a bit back on here?A 2 quid charge on a 15 pound ticket is a fair old percentage.

If you ring trading standards (via the Town Hall switchboard) they will tell you exactly what is legal and what isn't.

If the additional charge is now being 'dressed up' as 'admin fees' then I presume that the club are entitled to charge whatever they want.

What they CANNOT do is add £2 and claim it is a fee for a transaction using debit/credit cards.

It now seems that the same charges are being implemented that caused the initial furore, but are being labelled differently.

As I understand it, tickets are not being posted to purchasers, but have to be collected in person.

That means that in fact there are absolutely no additional costs incurred when ordering by phone. No postage etc. Simply answering a phone and writing down the name address of the purchaser. Exactly the same as attending in person to purchase tickets at the shop window, which incurs no extra cost.

Perhaps someone at the club could explain the extra cost and exactly HOW it is incurred.

Not sure how a "ticket office" can charge extra for the administration of a ticket, surely thats the sole purpose of a ticket office? Its like going for a meal and they charge you an additional fee to cook it for you,all seems rather excessive to me

Perhaps the more people turning up on the day, the more staff required to man the ticket office?

You know that and I know that. On the face of it, there is no excuse for an extra charge, unless someone can convince us otherwise.

The e-mail says:

"If you cannot get up to the game then why not reserve your seat over the telephone? Contact us on 0844 826 1907 *buy your ticket and collect on the day of the game.
(*subject to a £2 administration fee)."

Being pedantic, if you can't get up to the game you won't need a ticket

More seriously, this 'administration fee' is hardly encouraging for ticketless exiles and an unnecessary extra cost on top of transport etc.

Envelopes must cost a fortune these days!

I have been told (not sure by whom) that if you want to increase ticket prices one way to avoid the VAT on the difference in ticket price is to add an admin charge equivalent to the price rise you want to the original ticket price. This means you get the 'admin charge' free of VAT but charge the customer the amount you want. I think some theatres/venues do this. However, as the club is not increasing the ticket price it does not really apply here. Perhaps they are using expensive envelopes.

It's a shame the club are so desperate to rip the fans off and have completely missed the point of previous complaints by calling it an admin charge.

I'd rather they had just put the prices up and at least shown some transparency!

If a restaurant gets popular and has 'more people turning up on the day' it takes on more staff but doesn't put the prices up. The cost of the extra staff is paid out of the extra revenue from the increased custom.

This club has NO IDEA how to capture and then retain increased support. We are still living in the 1960s. But it does love the moniker 'little Rochdale' and the excuse that we live in the shadow of Giants.

There has to be an explanation for this fee. What is the difference between them serving someone on the phone or in person that leads to a £2 charge if it doesn't get posted out? If it makes sense to charge this amount, they can easily explain it.

Not only do we appear to have missed opportunities to market the club during this cup run, but there are issues like this that could be seen as a negative amongst potential new supporters.

I always use this site http://www.saynoto0870.com/ (although dales number isn't listed on this site, it's easy enough to find on the web) at the end of the day ringing the old number will ring the same number as the 0844 number... It's just another revenue scheme designed to part people from there money with no thought as to customer service, loyalty or experience. RAFC are not the only company in the world guilty of this...

I know the club shouldn't be charging this 'admin fee' but I would guess most exiles know Dale fans in the town who could get tickets for them rather than pay the £2 ? I know its not an ideal solution but there are ways of not paying it.

Missing the point a bit,the charge seems totally wrong regardless who the tickets for,as said before the more obstacles you put in the way the easier it is for people to choose to spend their money elsewhere. Its a bit like the old Bottany Bay admission price, I wouldnt go on principal as charging people extra intending to spend their money for your products is totally wrong.Needless to say its now free entrance

As said it's the principal! Ticket prices are already too high and we're adding an extra £2 under false pretenses. Be interesting to see how the club react to this one.

Is it £2 per ticket or transaction?

Admin Charge on 18:17 - Jan 21 with 2582 viewsrollo

Might be me looking at it too simply, but i always presumed there always was an admin charge for things like this. You are essentially reserving a ticket, same way as you would by doing something similar online so there are steps in place to ensure this is held and in the correct details etc. You never know the game could actually be a sell out (wishful thinking i know) but because you have 'reserved' your ticket you wont miss out.

I'm not missing the point as I started my post with 'I know the club shouldn't be doing it' - All I am saying is I would refuse to pay it by getting a family member or friend to collect my ticket if I had to. If no one paid the £2 they would soon stop asking for it.

So youd have to put someone else out to buy and collect a ticket to avoid a charge that should never apply in the first place?I appreciate theres a million and one ways to not pay the "admin fee" yet the issue is with the actual charging of it in the first place therefor eradicating the problem of putting people out trying to avoid the charge to begin with?

If you are flying into Heathrow that morning and hiring a car to drive north to get to the game there is NO alternative. You are well and truly screwed.

Put out? Rochdale isn't exactly a massive town. Id do it for a friend or family member and wouldn't feel put out.

Ill let someone else keep explaining every eventuality to you, surely you understand not every person who enters the home stands for an all ticket match is from Rochdale and as a result its a pain in the arse to make an extra totally wasted trip or face getting nobbled for an "admin fee"

At least it's not the £4 it apparently costs to administrate season ticket purchases. However I don't believe an admin charge is made for Coach bookings and do they usually charge this for regular matches? In the words of Toyah Wilcox... it's a mystery.

It does ultimately confirm that on-line ticketing is pointless because they'd price the fan's and potential fan's interest out of it.

Keep lining people up at the tickets 'window'. Keep that telephone ringing and of course the good old work of Postman Pat.
