Oldham Athletic 1 v 0 Salford City Papa John's Trophy Tuesday, 31st August 2021 Kick-off 19:00 |
blackvincent added 19:15 - Jan 3 Won at a canter after their initial momentum dried up, which it did quickly after we scored. Dominated the game from then on and won at a canter. Walsall were well beaten and they knew it, they were demoralised and dispirited, hanging on to keep it down to two nil by the end. Very good football team now, the Dale DPeps added 17:56 - Jan 7 Played ok but conceded two terrible goals. First one can be put down to individual inexperience; second goal was worse - I have no idea why their player was in so much space in injury time! SaintBrock added 18:40 - Jan 7 dirk_doone added 19:10 - Jan 7 The confusion caused by Puel's rotation and the coaching of our goalkeepers by Dave Watson seems to have wrecked our once impregnable defence. As for our attack, Les Reed sold it in the summer. patred added 20:51 - Jan 7 Norwich offered little, yet still scored twice. Unfortunately their first came after an error from young Harry Lewis, Their second came in the dying seconds when our defence went AWOL. Saints started brightly with Norwich seemingly showing us too much respect. Norwich struggled to get clean possession, and were under the kosh from both Sims and Tadic on both flanks. But we failed time after time to get numbers in the box. It took Virgil to show our forwards how find some space and finish first time. The Saints finished the first half well on top and in charge, yet we had only the defenders goal to show for all our huffing and puffing, and poscession. Lots of tippy tappy stuff from the Saints AGAIN... 2ND half Norwich tried to up their game but showed little quile, and rthe few chances they did manage were easily dealt with..That was until young keeper Harry Lewis made a hash of a through ball he clearly favourite to clear, he hessitated, and paid for it by bringing down Jerome who going away from goal. This livened up Norwich a little, and encoraged their sparse supporters. Even then the Saints always looked the more likely. Some clever inter play down our right side resulted in a cross that Yoshida got on the end of and ended up nestling the net..2 goals in open play scored by both our centre backs, says a lot for our strikers!!! Saints looked as if they were 'managing' the remainder of time..that was until Naismith popped up into the box unmarked to nod in the Norwich equaliser. The game was played in front of a half full stadium, which is surprising for Norwich. There was little atmosphere, a few groans and moans from both sets of fans..but no boos! Not a classic FA Cup game. I came away glad we avoided a bannana skin, and glad we didn't embarrass ourselves. Another game we were dominated but avoided winning. Northantstort added 09:43 - Jan 8 Don't worry, it's all part of the masterplan. Claude Puel's comments in the build up to yesterday: “I think at the end of this week we will know the calendar and I hope it is full, with many games, and that we can continue to play every three days." Obviously looking for a replay! Lazz added 10:13 - Jan 8 Harbour added 14:16 - Jan 8 Expected cup defeat shame Eze went off looked quite good. As soon as we conceded I knew we would lose but 2 very poor goals to concede and we never really threatened other than cousins missing a sitter at the end. Luongo looked well off the pace wozelek shodipo ned mackie all did ok but we had no centre forward and were run over in the middle. Closing ellerslie rd made sense more people in South Africa rd and the loft... pete_boggs added 22:09 - Jan 11 Good stuff, shame we didn't put all the chances away, but good result with a clean sheet. Lots of good performances and glad bringing JWP on didn't cost us the result. vanmans added 22:13 - Jan 11 That's the best ive seen saints play all season. Please put out the same team on Saturday. please please saints don't sign Sturridge he Is crap. Just think what the score would have been if we signed a striker in the summer.
