sidsaint added 10:36 - Aug 28 Poor performance. A shadow of last year's side. I think we need a striker as well as a centre back and if Vic is off we need a defensive midfielder . Jay Rod needs much more time. RK will have to earn his money this season. Is there a rift between him and Les? LongDongSilva added 11:15 - Aug 28 When are Koeman and the board gunna realize its too early to put pressure on Jay to perform and Pelle has a good game one in every 5/6 but ultimately he looks a tired karthourse that's run to Africa and back not a 30 year old Itallian international with a point to prove. The main problems is the service to Pelle/Jay from the midfield Mane appears to be the only Saints player capable of creating a chance for himself or the team out of nothing rather than via a laboursem build up that finishes with a hopeful ball into the middle. We know Pelle doesn't have the capability to create a chance for himself so if you don't supply him he's not a Lambert he won't score. Tadic is far to hit and miss (more miss) and predictable I know many fans don't rate him but there is a perfectly good attacking mid/ Winger in Ramirez just sat there doing nothing. I think its important to note Ramirez was only £1 million more than Tadic and scored 5/6 premier league goals, (all from open play not precarious penalty's) in his first season in England which is more than Tadic as well as supplying a number of Assists and game changing contributions in the second half of the 2013/14 season, (the dunked through ball for Lallanas winner against West From for example). Many fans complain Ramirez can be illusive in games but Tadic ppprobably more so. Ramirez could be just the player to help kick start our season, he's still young and has more variety and a better shot than Tadic + he can take a free kick to a better level than any1 in our team currently, barring Ward Prowse and can play on the wing or behind Pelle. Les and the board have shown this Summer that their clearly not willing to reinvest so they could do far worse than to look at Ramirez especially as its a chance for them to save yet more money, unless the fact that he's a Courtese signing is a stumbling block... forest_saint added 11:27 - Aug 28 Totally agree Long Dong, a man who talks some sense, bring Ramirez back! Oh just realised he has'nt actually gone he's just being ignored by koeman. Horndeansaint added 11:44 - Aug 28 There seems to be a certain something about cup competitions. We talk the talk but when it comes to the walking, we seem to show zero interest. I had the misfortune to go to Sheffield United, saw how we tried our hardest to NOT get a Europa League spot and then last night was just the most inept, disinterested performance you could ever imagine. Is there something within the club that says "focus on the Premier League and nothing else?". I can't think of any other reason why we would be so absolutely awful in what should have been our most important 2 matches for several years. Pecky3 added 12:03 - Aug 28 I was actually disgusted by the all-round performance of the team and the lack of enthusiasm shown by the players. There was no sign of enthusiasm from the bench. For Koeman to blame the referee is nonsense! his team selection was poor. Why did Tadic not start?? Why were Juanmi and Soares on the bench. these were meant to be key signings but Koeman does not play them! The formation was c**p too. Virtually five defenders. Why substitute Caulker and leave Yoshida on the pitch is another mystery! It is going to be a long hard season unless somehow Koeman can get it sorted. A central defernder is need I agree but after last night we need another 3 or 4 decent players. We have a young central defender in Jack Stephens who could do better than all of them there last night but we let him go on loan - crazy management. Has Koeman lost the plot??? Ddobsy added 13:43 - Aug 28 SaintBrock added 14:33 - Aug 28 These are very depressing days for Saints fans. I have watched Saints all my life but never have seen such a woeful and ugly performance as that of the first half last night. Everything we have learned and built here over the last six years seemingly come to nought, cast away as 'though it never happened. This has been truly our death by a thousand cuts. Was this a sign of surrender from Koeman? Out of sorts all season and no magic recipe last night, is he still with us? Perhaps his own inability to persuade Clyne, Alderweireld & Schneiderlin to remain with him (he had a year to talk them round after all) has undermined his own self esteem and sowed real seeds of doubt - and now the suggestion that Wanyama & Mane may feel the same way! Good managers and coaches don't become bad managers and coaches overnight so evidently all is not well in our camp, so now the question is will he walk if VVD cannot be persuaded to come here either. I hope not but fear Norwich may be the last game with him and his brother at the helm. If that happens we may have to settle for Big Sam! - "always look on the bright side of life" gpsgm added 15:32 - Aug 28 Simply ... They made no real mistakes in the 2 legs even though they were uninspiring that's how teams from smaller leagues progress. They were Champions and that's obviously how they did it. We made a crucial mistake in each leg that they scored from. The refs made a crucial mistake in each leg and that cost us. We've got to take our early chances and then we can play with more confidence. Tadic cross near end should have been our equaliser but they were so good defensively.
