Tickets are on sale now for QPR’s March trip to Aston Villa and if you’re planning to make the trip then read on for details.

Ground Name: Villa Park

Capacity: 42 640 (all seated)

Address: Villa Park, Trinity Road, Birmingham, B6 6HE

Main Telephone No: 0121 327 2299

Ticket Office: 0800 612 0970

By Car

QPR fans who travelled to the League Cup tie here a few years ago may recall that on arrival we found the Aston expressway closed and a lengthy diversion up the M6 and back again that saw many Rangers supporters still taking their seats midway through the first half. Thankfully that now seems to be sorted so it’s simply M6 to junction six then off onto the A5127 Aston Expressway. The ground is clearly visible once you’ve arrived at junction six so get straight off the Expressway at the first possible opportunity and start looking for somewhere to park.

Parking

Pretty rank it has to be said. Basically once you’re off the Expressway start looking for anything you can find. Street parking is limited by residents only schemes and if you do find a space expect some kid to take a fiver from you for the privilege of not nicking your alloys. On our experience last time lots of local schools and businesses open up their play grounds and car parks to fans and charge around a fiver for you to park there – my advice is take one if you can see it, and go for the first one you see otherwise you could end up driving around right up to kick off time. Not the best for driving it must be said.

Train

There are a variety of ways to do this by rail – Euston to New Street on the fast (expensive) Virgin trains, Euston to New Street on the slow (cheap) London Midland trains or Marylebone to Snow Hill on the medium paced (cheap) Chiltern service. There are some very cheap tickets still knocking around for this game – Marylebone to Snow Hill leaving at 0906 is available for £6 single for example. Pair that up with the London Midland service from New Street to Euston afterwards leaving at 1854 and arriving back at 21.09 for £8 and you’ve got yourself a £14 round trip.

Another train is required to get you from the city centre out to Villa Park. Witton and Aston are both an equal distance to the ground and both can be a bit of a nightmare afterwards. Take Walsall-bound trains from New Street with a journey time of about 10 minutes.

Coach

The official club coach is leaving Loftus Road at 10.30am and picking up at the Target Roundabout at 11am. The price is £26 for adults, £16 for seniors and young adults, £14 for under 16s and the usual discount for season ticket holders.

The LSA has already filled one bus for this fixture and is now taking potential bookings for a second to gauge interest. That would depart from The Springbok at 9am and be priced at £25 with £15 concessions. Call Gary on 07506 028 189 to register your interest.

Pubs

We used to drink in The Armada under the motorway junction back in the old Premiership days but I’ve no idea if it’s even still there never mind away fan friendly so I wouldn’t want to recommend it. The guide mentions the Cap and Gown which apparently has separate home and away sections with a £2 entry fee and is right next to Witton railway station. The Harriers and Barton Arms a little further afield also come recommended. Most QPR fans arriving by train are sure to drink in the city centre and head out to the ground later on.

Tickets

Rangers have an initial allocation of 1,700 tickets in the lower tier of the Doug Ellis stand – that’s down the side opposite the tunnel for those of you who have been before. They’re priced £35 adults, £27 seniors, young adults and students and £10 for under 16s. The R’s have eight wheelchair spaces and 20 ambulant disabled tickets priced £25 adults, £20 seniors, young adults and students and £10 juniors. Disabled parking is to be booked in advance by calling Sheila Maybury on 0121 327 2299.

There are a whole number of grim places when following the Rs away. For me Villa is up there with the worst of them. Pleased to say I have my tickets for this one..
