Whatever Happened To... Gareth Williams Sunday, 13th Jan 2013 18:00 by Daniel Gareth Williams joined the U's permanently after two successful loans spells where he scored eight goals in 15 appearances. Unfortunately he wasn't as prolific after his permanent move to Layer Road and he was released at the end of the 2006 promotion season, having scored seven goals in 61 appearances. After being released he joined Conference side Weymouth, but left in September having made just two sub appearances, joining Bromley in the Isthmian League. He helped Bromley secure promotion to the Conference South in his first season, but left after his second season to join Braintree Town in May 2008. Following a year at Braintree, he returned to Bromley for a second spell, which included an appearance against the U's in the FA Cup first round, playing the second half in the game United won 4-0. In January 2010 he moved to Croydon Athletic in the Isthmian League Division One South. He scored two hat-tricks to help them win the league, but then left the club due to their off-field problems, signing for Ebbsfleet in September 2010. He returned to Bromley for a third spell after being released by Ebbsfleet at the end of the season. After one year back at Bromley he then joined Cray Wanderers, who play in the Isthmian League Premier Division, in August 2012. Clubs since leaving the U's: Weymouth, Bromley, Braintree Town, Croydon Athletic, Ebbsfleet, Cray Wanderers.
