Varane and Frey both justify their positions - the wide men and Chair benefit from his style of play but he does not score enough to be the main striker . Madsen is the one that so far has shown very little.
Still think we need to bring in a striker. Frey gets injured and too much will be put on the youngsters shoulders. They both have potential but it is not out of the question that two out of the three could be injured at the same time and we are still not safe.
Willesden Working men’s club Villiers Road - then Welwyn Garden City Trades and Labour Club ( now gone) and now Stevenage C I U - and pass card to enter all other associated clubs nationwide. Good value for money still.
Agreed - nonsense that goals are chalked off for accidental handball but if you are going to introduce that rule it should also apply to defenders every handball whether intentional or not is given against the defender. Accidental is the same whether you be an attacker or a defender.
His presence was essential against a side like Watford - he stopped our attack from being bullied out of the game - we have missed his physical presence since his injury when we play big defenders. That said it shows our current weakness up front that he is probably the best we have.
He’s improving and although his cross led to Fields goal his final pass still needs to be more consistent and so does his finishing. His pace causes defences problems but still not sure he’s the answer.
Thought he done well enough today. Watford are a physical side and I thought he stood his ground, Won the ball a number of times and found someone in a hopped shirt. Alongside Field they held their own.
Problem is with the players currently at his disposal don’t think any system would work. The injury list doesn't help but nothing shown so far indicates that the signings have been good enough. All of us have the same unanswered question as to who was responsible for bringing them in. Is Marti having to play the hand that he’s been dealt or has he been a part of signing players that just aren’t good enough. At the moment we have not one decent striker, poor full backs, a midfield that doesn’t gel and central defenders Cookie and JCS who only seem consistent when both are playing together as soon as one is out the defence crumbles. Not looking good at all and the summer recruitment doesn’t inspire a great deal of confidence for incoming players in the January window - and it might be too late by then anyway.
Two strikers are not enough. Even last year they bought in Frey as a third striker. We have now parted company with two of those and bought in one. Having players that are not recognised as strikers trying to operate as such is not sufficient. One injury to one of those two players is almost inevitable. Do you really want to wait to the January window to have to fire fight when insufficient number of strikers has always led to a problem in the past. Midfield players and we have bucket loads of them are not in my opinion the answer.
Seems to me more down to an inconsistent referee. Let far more dissent go than that shown by Colback unfortunately standard of refs in the championship pretty poor in my opinion.
Was he really such a liability as suggested. Marti has come in for a lot of praise on this board and rightly so but chose to strengthen other areas in the team rather than the goalkeeper. He’d watched all the other games before taking over so would have seen his performances. The article is about reviewing this season- what happens next year is a different topic. Personally have seen a lot worse keepers down the bush over the years . As an ex keeper have never seen the sense of making a keeper captain but there have been a few high profile ones.
