It worked at Watford, and we could and should have won the game as a consequence. I don't like the 'play football at home and hunker down away' binary, and don't accept it. We were lucky not to lose 2-0 at Bristol anyway, and many more away performances like that, we'll lose most of them. And that's before we get onto aesthetic considerations, which is part of the point of my post. |

I found it interesting that Dunne made the point in his post-match interview after the Preston game that we're NOT 'in a dog-fight' and should be playing relaxed football that the team enjoys. Hopefully, he has Marti's ear, and that means we won't be going to the likes of Bristol from now on as if we came from the lower ranks of the Isthmian league. |

Not rude, just reasonably counter-argumentative. And if you want to treat the man (or rather your caricature of him as a 'contrarian' for the sake of it) rather than the argument as if LfW were some kind of cult, good luck! [Post edited 23 Dec 16:24]

Don't you want y/our team to play with more pride and, who knows, even a touch of panache, rather than inept numbskulls with an inferiority complex? I know I do - even if we get a few fewer away points as a result. [Post edited 23 Dec 16:31]

Well, I can only say I hope the Bristol game isn't now a blueprint for our away 'strategy'. 30% possession, a block lower than an anteater's snout, and eight touches in the opponent's box all game doesn't quite do it for me, I'm afraid. [Post edited 22 Dec 22:57]

Jesus - for me, this all really goes to show our expectations/aspirations have sunk into our boots since the decline set in during the second half of Warburton's final season! Fourteenth is hardly 'comfortable', but I guess it's altitude sickness-inducing after the last couple of years in the life of a QPR fan. Not that I'm not feeling quite a bit better than a month ago. |
| Forum Reply | Are we a "second half" team? at 22:49 22 Dec 2024
That's one way of looking at it, I guess, but the other is for Marti to work out why we're usually such poor starters (and then do something about it). |

That is so great to see. |

Except you don't know that Marti didn't appear at the FF because he was prevented from doing so, so you're peddling tiresome speculation as if it were fact. What does that leave you and your ilk with? The fact that Cifuentes won't/doesn't want to talk to a fans site - which again may well be MC's personal decision (and prerogative)? That's just risible! We all enjoy posting here, but we're really not that important - what part of that don't you get? I'm not convinced of Nourry, but I'm not convinced of Marti either, or the owners, or some of the players, so take a chill pill (I know it's me talking before the usual suspects pile in with their hilarious emoticon-laden sideswipes), and enjoy the weekend! Nourry doesn't have 'zero' experience in football, even if he seems to have sugarcoated his CV (as I'm sure many of us have) to some degree. Just out of interest - what would it take to revise your opinion of him as CEO or at least dial down on the agenda-driven hysteria about him that's been promulgated here? If you really think he's a fraud, it's Hoos and the owners you should be turning your ire on, I suggest, as he didn't get the role of CEO by abracadabra. |

How many more times! Marti has significant input into all player signings, as he's said himself, as well as saying numerous times he trusts and likes his players and their mentality. All performance-related problems are everyone's issue at the club, but mostly the coach's as (i) he is involved in recruitment, (ii) trains the players, and (iii) implements the playing style/game plan, who gets credit or criticism accordingly. He was rightly being questioned by some of us at least when we were down among the dead men, and still is when we look at games like Oxford and Bristol City, and yesterday he and his players get some rapturous/cautious applause. That's the way it works, and Marti knows that as well as anyone. [Post edited 22 Dec 22:31]

He's big, for sure, but he needs to become much more of a bully for me, as he's too often bustling but ineffective. I know he's just coming back, but contributed little in his 30 minutes, and looked a bit heavy to me. It might be a bit harsh, but I'd be OK if he were released/replaced in January, as I think we need to do better in his position, both in numbers and quality. |

Would be interesting to know how Chair sees the bigger picture, and if he and MC view his role any differently what with the big breathing spaces of his injuries. For me, he's still a 10, with licence to roam. I actually love the idea of him, Smyth and Saito all starting, but in that case who do you drop? Chair definitely gave us a lift today, though. Made a goal, hit the bar, and nearly (probably should have) scored another. Won us a raft of free kicks. Never stopped. If that infuriates you, you make me look like the friggin' Buddha! |

I do rate Saito, but he was peripheral today, disappointingly. He seemed to be playing too deep and not getting ono the ball enough in threatening positions a la Smyth on the other side. That might be Marti's fault for the shape as much as the player's. Any views from the master tacticians here? |
| Forum Reply | Was Prestons goal totally against the morals of the game at 21:03 21 Dec 2024
I noticed Field was having a right old chin wag with the ref after it, and there was a bit of pushing and shoving with some of their players. Would love to know what was said, but that's about as likely in an Offish interview as my stepping out to the pictures with Ariana Grande. |
