What did you do on your wedding night ?
at 22:03 18 Oct 2024

If you’re going, get your accommodation booked up early. Some places like Auckland will have a decent amount of accommodation, but in other places it will be much more limited and will fill up quickly, especially when the big tour operators start block booking. Mate of mine is looking to go to to Oz to watch the Lions next year, if you want a package on an organised trip with tickets the costs are around £7k with international flights, but that package doesn’t typically include internal flights and hotels outside of the test weekends.

Transferring ownership of your house to your son
at 18:38 18 Oct 2024

It can be a legal nightmare and complicated so it’s essential that you take legal advice.

It’s my understanding that if you’re doing it to prevent payment of care home fees etc, if the local authority can prove that was the driver behind the transfer they will come after you for the payment of care home fees regardless of who owns the house.

My parents transferred their house to me about 25 years ago, some 15 years later (10 years ago) my parents decided to move to be nearer me and my family as they were getting older etc and I ended up having to shell out to pay Capital Gains Tax.

More hotels needed

Freedom of movement came in as a result of John Major signing the Maastricht Treaty which came in to force under Blair. Where he went wrong was underestimating the number of migrants who’d come here from Eastern Europe and failing to introduce cans on the numbers (which could only be applied for a limited transitional period).

The really big increase in migration has taken place over the last 5 years, the number in that period is down to the last government, the figures over the last few years are huge and record breaking and much larger than what we saw under Blair.

Our criminal justice system is a mess and we’ve lost sight of what we should be doing, we should be deporting people and stopping them coming in.

The Nations League most certainly has value as it provides teams who fail to qualify for a major tournament with a further opportunity.

Councillor’s wife pleads guilty over race riot tweet
at 22:57 17 Oct 2024

Indeed. Maybe some of the morons who’re likely to jump on the bandwagon will have been deterred by what they’ve seen. The swift justice and subsequent publicity around sentencing brought an end to the disorder. I dare say there will be the hard liners who aren’t bothered by a spot of porridge at His Majesty’s pleasure, but for most the prospect of some time away from the family, losing their job etc will deter them from getting involved.

Councillor’s wife pleads guilty over race riot tweet
at 17:25 17 Oct 2024

She’s made a number of tweets and has pleaded guilty to intending to stir up racial hatred. Her sentence is broadly consistent with others involved in the disorder. It’s my belief she’s only got herself to blame.

People need to think about what they do and say online. If Ricky Jones is potted, he should have a similar, if not greater sentence.

Starmer extreme left, that’s a mental comment and completely undermines the author’s credibility.

That said, I don’t hold Lammy in high esteem, he uttered these words in a meeting some 6 years ago following the Windrush scandal and I suspect he was “playing” to the audience, but it was in my opinion a naive thing to do. In 1833 following the abolition of slavery Britain compensated the slave owners, but not the slaves themselves, they never received any compensation.
If we were going to compensate the slavers for their suffering it should have been done 200 years ago and not now, how can we be responsible for the acts of the wealthy landowners and companies 200 years ago - its nonsense.

Time to draw a line under this subject and move on.

International breaks
at 23:54 15 Oct 2024

I’m desperate to get a few away games in, but the ticket situation is a mare. You can’t get tickets unless you’ve got points (which is fair enough) but you can’t get points because you can’t get a ticket. There’s been a fair bit of harvesting going on and people are buying tickets with no intention of travelling just so they can keep racking up the points.

It’s really good when the FAW insist that people turn up at a designated collection point to collect their tickets in person, that puts people off harvesting if they think they’ll get caught out. Love it.

I prefer the Nations League to the friendlies that used to exist before it. Now we have meaningful games and if we do well we can end up playing some of the bigger more established international teams who previously wouldn’t have considered playing against us. In the last NL tournament, we had Poland, Belgium and the Netherlands at the CCS and there were some really good players on show. Pre nations league, the big clubs would just play each other in friendlies.

It’s not just the fans who enjoy it, players like Cabango got to play and test themselves against some of Europe’s best players - can’t fault it.

Darling, Cabango & Cullen : Contract Latest
at 22:01 15 Oct 2024

Cabango played very well last night, if he carries on like that then the club is going to have to act quickly and get him on a new contract or he’ll be offski on a freebie next year. His agent will have no shortage of decent offers.

Why do you say or what evidence is there that it was his number 1 priority?

The death penalty for treason was removed when the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 was passed by Parliament in 1998. The C&D Act 1998 was the legislation that introduced ASBO’s, parenting orders, sex offender orders and host of other things. The Act also formally abolished the death sentence for Treason and Piracy, the death sentence had already been abolished for everything else many years earlier. All the government did was tidy things up.

I can see the thread on Joe Allen has been locked, I was just going to add his presence brings a lot to the squad, he did really well tonight after he came on. Steadied the ship and gave the players around him confidence. Without doubt an asset to the team.

Just back from the game, not seen any highlights etc but agree with a lot of what’s been said here. Thought a weakened Wales team played well in the first half, took the game by the scruff and were very much on top. Second half was like ground hog day in Reykjavik last week, Montenegro had us on the back foot and could have scored. Overall we were the better team and deserved the 3 points, but it could have been different.

At times Wales wanted to pass the ball in to the net when a bit more urgency and a shot could be a better option. Thought the Swans contingent (current and former) gave a good account of themselves, special mention in dispatches for Cabango and especially Josh Sheehan. A decent crowd of 27,600 which is pretty respectable for a Monday night.

We need to work on our goal threat because we could easily have beaten Türkiye if we had a bit more firepower up front. Bellamy has work to do, but I feel he’s moving in the right direction.

For those who think the rich should pay more tax
at 10:16 12 Oct 2024

We need to have a balance where the wealthy, who’ve made an enormous amount of cash over the last 14 years pay a fair amount as do the rest of the poolulation. We need to foster a climate where people can make money and become better off while still paying a reasonable return.

In terms of the people moving abroad, we could tighten up some of the loop holes. Id start with the 90 day rule for UK citizens living abroad, currently a day is only counted if you’re in the country at midnight, so if someone fly’s in at 6am and flies out at 11pm that doesn’t count towards the 90 days. I’d change the rules so that people flying in to the uk from tax havens such as the IOM, Jersey on a regular basis were brought in to our tax system.

It’s an obscene amount of money and the only winners are the lawyers.

A number of years ago I attended a meeting where I spoke to solicitor who specialised in family disputes. His firm had represented 1 client in a dispute and the bill was over £500k, the other parties was even higher. Mental !!

I totally agree, it has to be a 2 way street hence the comment re shirker.

I’d like to see the legislation cover issues such as we saw with the P&O ferries a few years ago.

Is the correct answer, the piece of legislation you are referring to was British Nationality Act 1981 - it was subsequently updated and amended by the British Nationality (Falkland Islands) Act 1983
