A huge sense of entitlement
at 19:44 23 Sep 2024

Not sticking up for the City player but apparently the reason he didn’t get booked was because the ref instructed the City player to return the ball to where the offence took place, which was a few yards away from where player & ball had come to a halt. Obviously the free kick would be taken by Arsenal from where the offence occurred and the ref motioned to the City player to send the ball back to where the kick would be taken from. Can’t take any credit for spotting it myself, they covered it in the post match analysis on MOTD2 last night 🙂

Dibling makes BBC's, Troy Deeney's Team of The Week
at 14:43 23 Sep 2024

I draw a few crumbs of comfort from the fact Dibling went to a ‘big club’ and disliked it so much he couldn’t wait to come back home to SFC. Maybe, just maybe, he will be our 21st Century Matt Le Tiss and have that same attitude that Matt had when it comes to where he plays his football. In other words, he will play where he wants to play, irrespective of what anyone else thinks. I can remember Alan Shearer talking about Le Tiss staying at SFC on the BBC MOTD Top Ten podcast. He said Le Tiss simply didn’t give a sh#t what anyone else thought, he was completely single minded about playing where he wanted to play, s@d the consequences. Can but live in hope Tyler’s love for SFC that brought him back home so quickly extends on for years to come - fingers crossed 🙂

The Cricketers Arms in Carlton Place still serves you good beer in glass not plastic. Bit of a trek to SMS but well worth it. Decent choice of beers to choose from. Lots of Saints fans around, gets a bit crowded in the winter months when few are occupying the outside seating. Good pub, good beer & a good atmosphere.

RIP Bob Brunskill
at 01:28 21 Sep 2024

Bob Brunskill - proper journalist back in the day who wrote genuine articles based on facts and a good knowledge of the game, not rumours, conjecture and AI generated guff.
The Pink, that brings back memories, when we used to come down from London for the weekend to visit my gran I’d go to The Dell on Saturday afternoon. She lived in Newlands Avenue, Shirley and by the time I’d strolled back from The Dell the Pink was already in the newsagents opposite the Atherley at the top of the road. Don’t know how they could do it so fast…
RIP Bob.

Ten changes to team for tonight against Everton

Disappointed Amo Ameyaw is on the bench unless RM is planning to unleash him on Ipswich from the start of course…

He’d be fine if he got a serious injury in March or April - the genius that signed Ross Stewart would definitely offer him a new four year contract 🙃⚽️

My aunt worked for the Villa for almost 50 years and lived very close to Villa Park. In her later years with them and after she retired she used to get complimentary tickets - not directors box, either a Holte End ground pass or lower tier main stand unreserved seats and whenever we went up there on a visit I’d go and watch Villa if they had a home game. Saw GS play on probably a dozen occasions not v Saints. A player that got ‘bums off seats’ on his good days and idolised by the Villa faithful. Very sad to hear not only the fact he’s gone but the way it happened. It will leave family and friends with so many if only’s. RIP Gary, enjoyed watching you as a neutral at Villa Park ⚽️

Long ban for the Cornish Maldini looming
at 17:49 16 Sep 2024

Oohh, looking forward to this, it mitigates my disappointment that one the games RM’s pin up was going to miss was the Everton Cup tie. If he’s up on one of the FA’s juicy ‘E’ charges (the ones with the heaviest sanctions are E1, E2, E3 ect…) this means a hefty fine (pointless given the money he earns a year) but the good bit is his ban could be extended by an additional one, two, three or four games on top of the three game ban for the red card. Good news for us though as RM’s hand will be forced for longer. He will be inconsolable, so much so I wouldn’t be surprised if his next press conference is conducted with the old Simon Bates ‘Our Tune’ theme music playing in the background.

Dibling will be playing for big 6 club in 2/3 years
at 15:24 15 Sep 2024

One quote Nick made when the over funded vultures were circling around Livremento was that the big 6 wouldn’t allow a player of Livremento’s quality to remain at Southampton - wouldn’t allow, I found that quite a chilling statement but very true. I think we will face the same problem with Dibling very soon. The catch 22 situation is that we desperately need his skills on the pitch to help us going forwards but the more we play him the more attention he will draw to himself from the usual suspects. SR need to address his contract situation as a matter of urgency as according to flashscore his current contract expires in June 2025 - he needs a new vastly improved long term contract with a huge buy out / release clause included and I mean eye wateringly huge.
The only crumb of comfort I cling to is the fact Dibling tried the bright lights of Chelsea but soon wanted to come back home to the Saints so I am just hoping he will emulate MLT in another way and be happy to remain a Saint for a good while to come

OK fair enough, I have not seen any PM interviews. Probably explains why Archer looked like he’d just seen a ghost whilst he was waiting to take the penalty.

Let Dibling start against United.
at 18:52 11 Sep 2024

StAnt, you are probably right but I’m with Grumpy on this one, it should happen - I’d start Sam Amo Ameyaw as well. What’s the point of having their talents sat warming the bench? Best players in pre-season, better than two or three I could name that have done little to merit including in the stating XI but get picked anyway as they are RM’s favourites. This isn’t picking your best mates first for a game of footie in the park after school, it’s considerably more serious than that!

He’s not finished, he’s only 28…
at 14:21 11 Sep 2024

DD, that has unlocked a few distant memories. I too was there on the bench seats under the West Stand. Now you mention it, I too can remember a few people went as far as saying sign him up never mind wondering if he would still be able to do a job for us! From memory he scored a typic
al Greavsie style goal and still looked sharp, albeit far from fully fit.
Look at some of the names on the Whitecaps team - back in their prime there would have been a few on that team sheet that would have been welcome additions to the squad at The Dell.
Of course, we did see Alan Ball in a Saints shirt.

On This Day In 2001
at 13:59 11 Sep 2024

Yes, I drove down to the game with another London based ST holder. Think we were both a bit surprised the game went ahead and as a previous poster has said there was a quite subdued atmosphere. We were also in those seats in the small stand.
A few days later I remember there was a huge backlash against the American comedienne Joan Rivers who’d said there were probably a few women out there that would have been relieved that their husbands had perished in the twin towers as they treated their wives like sh#t. Nearly cost her her career but for once she wasn’t making a controversial joke she was making a serious point. In the end the wife of a senior Cantor Fitzgerald executive who died in the towers came forward in support of Rivers saying she spot on and she was not the only one widowed who felt the same way.

The Give Russell a chance thread
at 19:37 5 Sep 2024

The grey shirts were the season before the 6-3 when we won 3-1 and were 3-0 up at half time. Monkou put us 1-0 up early on, Shipperly doubled our lead after about 20 mins then Le Tiss got the third just before HT. United changed from grey shirts to blue and white vertical stripes for the second half. That game was played in April 96 so near the end of the 95/96 season but then only 6 months later we played them again at home in Oct 96 and won 6-3. Berkovic opened the scoring even earlier than Monkou had the previous season and for the second season running we had put 3 past United by HT (3-1). They started the game in the same blue & white stripes they changed into the previous season so as the HT whistle blew it seemed like the whole ground were singing ‘Have you brought a change of kit?’ at Alex Ferguson as he trudged from the dugout on the halfway line back to the dressing room. To this day one of my favourite Dell memories, there was simply no answer to the chant.

Agreed ST - and it might not even be Z list goons, it would not surprise me if much of their content is A.I. generated which is entirely possible these days and would require minimal human input whilst taking garbage articles to a new level of bullsh#ttery.

Seems to be confirmed in this article that FIFA have rejected the transfer as Ajax were late submitting the final paperwork.

Edozie leaving
at 15:07 4 Sep 2024

Agreed Nick, I’d also add that the City youngsters we have purchased to a large extent are far from failed players, if they were, they would have either been released by City and left to find themselves a non-league club or given a free transfer to somewhere like Rochdale, Stockport or Accrington. In a lot of instances the likes of Lavia, Edozie and Delap (who has just gone to Ipswich) just find their paths to 1st team football blocked due to the quality of the players ahead of them and at a Club like City that could be the go-to first reserve as well as the first choice player therefore moves away are the only way for those players to continue their development. It doesn’t make them failed players.
I wish Sam Edozie all the best at his new club and hope he does well there. The better he plays the bigger the offer will be when it comes to making the transfer a permanent deal.

No points deduction for Leicester
at 21:20 3 Sep 2024

Football disciplinary and appeals boards absolutely love / hate previously set precedents. This is now most definitely a new precedent now well and truly set - it could actually be good news for us if we happen to fall foul of the same set of rules at some stage as we have had a couple of spectacular spending sprees by our standards as well as one redemptive window when we were relegated. But with the other loans that have needed to be at least serviced I do still worry about season 22/23 being within the three year period for PSR.

Sulemana Tipped For Loan Move To The Netherlands
at 20:03 3 Sep 2024

There is a possibility that we might be stuck with Sulemana until January according to a couple of media sources who are reporting that Ajax might not have got the paperwork fully submitted in time. Why Clubs leave things so so late is beyond me - the excuse given in this instance by Ajax was they would only take Sulemana on loan if Bergwijn completed his move to the Saudi Pro League which did eventually go through but maybe not in time for the KS paperwork to be submitted.
