I wouldn't go through Brecon etc as not a good route, but H of V or M4 then up to Monmouth not much in it time wise, depending on speed, but it can take away the boredom of just motorway driving | | | |

If the roadworks are still on the M50, it might be quicker on the M4 (obviously, don't come back across the bridge). It was slightly quicker on the motorway for me when the roadworks were on. Also, if you want to stop for a beer on route then the A465 is the best. |  |

If the roadworks are still on the M50, it might be quicker on the M4 (obviously, don't come back across the bridge). It was slightly quicker on the motorway for me when the roadworks were on. Also, if you want to stop for a beer on route then the A465 is the best. |

I've always found it quicker by M4 - M5.
Shorter by HoV - M50 - M5.
I go up by the former and back by the latter.
