NOT FOOTBALL RELATED on 20:09 - Oct 28 with 6336 views | KenBoon | It's on Premier Sports. That famous Subscription sports channel that hardly anyone has. Great thinking by the Rugby League people to sell the rights to them. Alternatively, Will Buckley is playing for Brighton on Sky Sports 1.

Was it down to the rugby league people? The BBC outbid Sky for the rights to the World Cups 2013 and 2017 plus the next two Four Nations tournament. However they're only showing the England games, one QF, one SF and the Final. Premier Sports are showing all 28 games but only 9 exclusively. They show more rugby league year round than Sky do even before this tournament. I think the RFL needed to sell to the highest bidder as they cannot afford to make a loss on this tournament. No blame should be attached to them.
NOT FOOTBALL RELATED on 20:27 - Oct 28 with 6294 views | downunder | Watching the game live on Sky Sports over here. A few points. 1. Great to see the ground full. 2.When the game was first announced I did not think they would attract more than a few thousand. I was wrong. Someone has done a fantastic marketing job with this tournament. Hope the Stadium company ordered enough pies. 3. Disappointed the Fijians only did a prayer and not a Haka. Even more disappointed the Irish did not do a Riverdance.

My understanding of the tournament is its about promoting the sport to potential new fans. I fail to see how putting the majority of games exclusively on an obscure premium sports channel does that. If this attempt at a World Cup fails then won't it realistically be the last? Good game so far. Nice to see the stands without all the needless netting over seats AND with bums in the seats.

Barbara Slater, Director BBC Sport says “BBC Sport is committed to bringing major national sporting events to the widest audience, so we’re very excited to be adding the Rugby League World Cup to our portfolio. This is a great opportunity to showcase Rugby League across all BBC platforms, and it’s an added bonus that the 2013 tournament is on home soil. Which makes me wonder did the BBC buy all games and choose to show only a few...or buy only the games they wanted? Seems there are regular highlights shows, games on 5Live and the BBC sports app. Channel 7 in Oz bought tv rights also. Doubt it will be the last RLWC.

NOT FOOTBALL RELATED on 22:02 - Oct 28 with 6070 views | KenBoon | Nice to see the town reflected with positive headlines for a change. Crowd seemed lively too. Shame it had to rain but hopefully our good drainage kept the pitch in good condition.
NOT FOOTBALL RELATED on 22:32 - Oct 28 with 6004 views | SuddenLad | Was a very enjoyable night. Sat in the Willbutts stand where there were lots of Fijians. Great view and great atmosphere. Bloke sat next to me had travelled up from Norwich and the couple in in front were from Nottingham. Marketing had obviously worked ! Well done to everybody involved for providing a night of first class entertainment. More importantly, the pitch was in fantastic condition throughout and will be tip-top for Saturday.

And that is a full capacity "sell out" ?? Seems a bit short, or is that because of the big screen in the Sandy?

Serious question, if the Spotland capacity is over 10,000 and they were turning people away at the ticket office surely the attendance should've been nearer to 10,000 than 8872? I know the screen would've reduced the capacity and the cameras take up a few seats but losing over 1100 possible attendees seems a lot? Great crowd all the same - just confusing with talk of a sell out.

NOT FOOTBALL RELATED on 00:33 - Oct 29 with 5847 views | sandylaner1 | very enjoyable night great to see the ground full especially in TDS and Wilbutts - lots of younger kids there also and they helped create a buzz and got the atmosphere going pitch in fantastic condition - was in main stand and the screen worked well in the corner of the sandy. WHEN WILL IT BE OUR TURN
NOT FOOTBALL RELATED on 01:28 - Oct 29 with 5831 views | DiddyDave | Yes,congratulations to everybody at Spotland for staging the game and for the obvious hard work in getting a sell out crowd. I must confess I was sceptical that people would turn up on the night (to be honest I thought maybe 2000 max),but in spite of the constant rain, the very fact that Fiji were playing and there was no other game on,ensured a most successful night for Rochdale. The pitch looked great too,so hope Dale can make it a double celebration for our beleaguered town on Saturday. Once again,a big well done to all concerned.
