Hmmmm..... 83 referrals of rape and abuse of under age girls from a grubby little northern town like ours go ignored and one under age Suffolk school girl buggers off with her teacher sparks an international man hunt.

Why the difference in response?

Because Rochdale has been shat on from a great height by every Government for the last 40 years. Every Government office in the town has been shut and moved somewhere else - Inland revenue, PO sorting, Magistrates court, most of our hospital capability and our totally inert councillors / MPs did nothing except bleat to the also moribund Observer.
Its time we binned the lot of them and elected some local people who don't pander to national political parties and actually have the people of Rochdale at the top of their agenda and not their personal political aggrandisement.
You can also include in the list of useless numpties all the senior council officials , educationalists, social workers, care trust directors etc. who make decisions that have serious impact on the town but choose to live anywhere but in Rochdale.

I can guarantee one thing, at the end of all the enquiries into the recent scandal, "lessons will be learned"..... but no fooker will be sacked!

If they are not sacked there's a thing called people power Blackburn Fans did it to Steve Kean as a town it could be easily done to those responsible for letting it go on for years

I think you mean responsible, Tazzy lad. Nothing reasonable about it.

Poll: What is it to be then?

I have always believed that anyone holding senior posts which gives them responsibilities within the Borough, whether that be any Council department, Police, Fire Service, NHS or even Councillors then it should be a condition of them holding such posts that they live in the Borough.

Any Councillor who seeks election, or any Parliamentary candidate should live on the ward for which they seek to be elected and in the case of the MP, he/she should PERMANENTLY reside within their own constituency.

Then scrub the hideous expenses they each Councillor receives from the Borough purse and let's see who REALLY cares about what happens within the ward where they live.

I wrote to th'Observer expressing my views but it seems from their 'Letters to the Editor' page that they were more interested in printing letters from Mohammed Salim.

No wonder this town is in the state it's in. Those in charge simply couldn't give enough of a sh!te but will happily run for the hills with their ill-gotten salaries & handsome pensions.

Probably so, but my point was that they should live in the ward that they represent or seek to represent.

Why do we need so many councillors? Surely we should only have one from each ward?
