Is he injured? Or just not in contention anymore?

Not selected.

Unfortunately Marcus has been found out this season. When playing next to Dawson he was comfortable, always prone to a mistake, but who isn't at this level. When asked to lead the defence this year he has been found wanting. A decent L2 centre half at best.

Been found out? So the other 10 players in the first half of the season played a blinder did they?

Pretty much an ever present in our promotion season and in our respectable L1 finish last season.

I'd love to see him back in next to Long.

Should be on the bench IMO if not injured.

He was far from an ever present when we were promoted. Only got a real chance after Stanton left.

I think he'd be fine alongside Long.

Just because he was ever present in promotion season doesn't make him good. I'd look half decent playing next to Daws. I'm afraid his positioning is poor and he doesn't have the pace to compensate this at a higher level.

You forgot to mention his appalling distribution, which nobody can deny. He can head it far and is good at kicking the ball long distances but ask him to play from the back which you have to do in modern day football and it becomes a big problem for Marcus. I think he is a decent squad member but doesnt merit a starting place on a regular basis.

Didn't Stanton leave in the summer before our promotion season?

Nope. Holness stepped in for him now and again (eg. there was a man of the match display v Cheltenham spoilt by a mistake in the last minute that led to Alsop's winner), but Stanton was Dawson's partner for most of the season.

Ah yes, I remember now.

Holness has been woeful all season and it's a massive shame because when Dawson left us, that was his chance to make that centre half position his own after really impressing next to Dawson. Instead, he's been unable to do that and is now quite rightly nowhere near the team.

If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor

Totally agree........should be nowhere near the team, especially at this critical stage where our own future lies in the balance.

Scared me stiff whenever he got possession in space.

Pretty spot on unfortunately. He has failed to step up this season, hasn't looked quite as fit as previously either. I guess we may have seen the last of him but I hope he is able to recreate the form of last season. His season was destroyed by our early season manager who made it very clear he didn't want him to figure and tried to replace him as soon as he arrived. He has been one of many poor players this season. I have no doubt he can play well at this level but he needs to be fully fit and playing the game that he is capable of - ie Heading it a long way, tackling and defending. At times this year he was too keen to distribute and was found wanting. Once his confidence returns he'll be great - I doubt it will be for us though.

Well summarised, was a big critic of his at the start of last season but he quite emphatically proved me wrong. Had Hill stayed on for one more season I'm sure we'd be speculating about Holness leaving to a championship side this summer, unfortunately Eyre completely ruined him.
