Morriston A&E on 15:41 - Dec 7 by SullutaCreturned | My son had a earache recently, I told him I thought it was ear wax. They rang the doctor while I was in work, rang me to say he had to go to the hospital. I came home from work and drove him down. He was sent to "Urgent Primary care" which, as I found out there and then is just another doctor seeing GP's patients. I had been under the impression the doctor had seen my son and sent him straight down as an emergency, turned out (as II found out later) my wife had only spoken to the doctor on the phone and the doctor said take him to "UPC" in MPT. It was just ear wax though and he as prescribed drops. WTF is the point of a local GP when they won't even see you. One look in his ear, a prescription, it would have taken 5 minutes. GP's got a massive pay rise, new contracts but since Covid they do bugger all, they take phone calls, palm you off somewhere else and cause chaos. It's shocking. Phome our GP these days and every day they say their only seeing urgent cases....isn't urgent when you go to minor injuries or A&E and who decides what is urgent, if I don't feel well how do I know how serious it is? I could have a pain in the chest, it could be indigestion or a heart attack. |
Let us hope the drops work. Most GP practices no longer do ear irrigation, leave alone micro suction, and will direct you to a private provider to have ear wax removed. Hearing Wales in Uplands or Mumbles is one of the cheaper options. https://www.which.co.uk/reviews/hearing-aids/article/ear-wax-removal-safe-method

Returned the following morning and waited 10 hours for the scan!!. All the way through this ordeal, they were advised "no food" - in case they required an emergency operation!!

Morriston A&E on 14:46 - Dec 7 by AnotherJohn | Very true, but when it comes to arrivals (gross immigration) the official figures say 1.3 million plus 1.2 million, so it is actually 2.5 million arrivals in that two year period. If you roll the clock back a year or two the arrivals since then outnumber the population of Wales. |
It’s absolutely crazy. Too many patients for staff. Something has to be done. No more letting millions in. I hope you get sorted Boundy . Get well.

If you live in the Hywel Dea Health Board area you can get the micro suction done for free, not sure about the ear irrigation though.

He can get it done in Neath, at Dyfed Road surgery. His appointment is on the 12th. As time passes more and more services are removed by GP's, you can't even get to see them most of the time. It's plain wrong.
Morriston A&E on 01:21 - Dec 8 with 824 views | Robbie | Leaving the EU was going to save the UK £ 360 million per year , that money would then be put back into the NHS immediately . Bojo promised that pledge , read into that and the lies that followed and wonder where that phantom savings evaporated into . Appreciate as described earlier by many worse off than me , I need to see a Specialist Dermatologist for an on going issue , my local Primary Care unit referred me . Letter dated June this year from Swansea Bay Health Trust stating they are in receipt of my GPs notification and will get back to me in due course . Six months later no communiction whatsoever . Might try ringing my local Health Centre on Monday Morning for an update , but they do not accept incoming calls . | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Morriston A&E on 12:11 - Dec 7 by AnotherJohn | If you are referred to Morriston by a GP you will be directed to SDEC (Same Day Emergency Care), and find yourself in a similar waiting room to A&E where the wait isn't much better. |
Thanks John and everyone else of course. I found that out about SDEC after I checked in the main A&E Department. I finally got home last night at 20:30 hours after 28 hours being in A&E, this involved one Xray 15 minutes, and two chats with 3 doctors all of which took 45 minutes . I'd like to think my time there is a record but I some how think its not. Back up again this morning for 09:00 hours for an MRI so another long day awaits I expect , but I know there'll be people there who are in desperate need of help , and some perhaps not but who am I to judge. and we drew

Immigration has gone through the roof since 2010, no wonder the NHS is in the state it is, all well and good blaming the Tories, but Labour are certainly not filling me with any confidence

Thing is Rayns, A and E, hospitals and the care system is full of immigrants propping it up. There’s are argument to be asked about the overall benefit of those arrivals, but if they were all to go back tomorrow we’d be stuffed.
Morriston A&E on 11:58 - Dec 8 with 669 views | Treforys_Jack | I've deliberately stayed out of this thread up to now as it's a very raw subject for me. My mother had to wait up to 6hrs for an ambulance even though she was having a suspected heart attack, it wasn't a wait she was able to make. If an ambulance had been available within a reasonable time, its extremely likely she'd still be here now. Not blaming immigration, nor NHS staff who are as frustrated as the public, the blame lays firmly in the lap of successive governments, labour and torys have blood on their hands .

Not really sure when it developed into this, the issue is people don't realise how bad it is until you actually need an ambulance. The ambulance crews and the staff in ITU, etc are incredible, far better people than the politicians

Awful really and I know how stressful and uncomfortable these waits are. I've had two long waits in SDEC and A&E (with wife) earlier this year, one visit of which involved me driving her in due to the non-availability of an ambulance. At the moment there is no way around NHS A&E as even if you can pay for an operation at Sancta Maria and there is a subsequent problem, they just tell you to go to A&E. Perhaps the fact that this affects poor and better off alike will force our politicians into action, but it is a very difficult problem against the background of rapid population growth and poor workforce training planning over many years.

She had a Phillipino lady domestic who my Mother adored and had big respect for . Cleaning human body waste on the Ward floor post op , the patients still not in control of their bodily functions , her and her husband living in the area wanted to work all hours . Imagine getting a job hunter these days to be asked clean up some persons crap left on the floor , squirt some Domestos and do a mop up operation . I doubt some of our unemployed these days would get out of bed for them tasks . Good luck to the lady and hope she has a good future ahead of her .

Most care workers do that kind of task almost daily. Foreign and local. Not on particularly high wages either. I believe they are going on strike tomorrow in the Swansea bay area to get parity with English bands
