A better performance 10:06 - Nov 30 with 1549 views | Bridders2 | Putting the ridiculous VAR decision aside, we actually played a better game with less suicide passing at the back (although still too much) and more quicker attacking movement towards their goal and the result should have been a win. Lumley kicking long helped and we got more bodies into their box than I've seen all season. Still making stupid errors, but if we'd played like this from the start we'd be higher up the table.
A better performance on 12:28 - Nov 30 with 1446 views | dirk_doone | In the last 2 games our tactics have started to change: a bit like they did at the end of last season. At Brighton, there were fewer short sideways and backwards passes at the back and far more long forward passes than we have seen all season. We are starting to lose our obsession with possession in favour of trying to win games. We have even let the opposition have more than 50% possession. I assume Martin has finally realized he had to do this in order to save his job. Maybe Ankersen has warned him that Solak was ready to sack him if results didn't improve. [Post edited 30 Nov 12:34]

A better performance on 21:14 - Nov 30 with 1205 views | Southamptonfan | The players are giving their all. I dont think they come across as not trying. They just arnt particularly good. We don't have any match winners or major quality, so it's such a struggle. Most fans recognise that. We do need to adapt the style of play, and it looks like we are doing that. We have had two good performances. We have had some terrible decisions go against us. It must be such a punch in the stomach, when perfectly good goals keep being ruled out by the pathetic VAR. I don't see any signs of fans starting Martin out chants at the games or any signs of discontent in the stadium. The players are trying. It's just going against us at the moment. A better performance on 01:46 - Dec 1 with 1095 views | saintpaz | a bit subjective but based on the performance..: Games we deserved to get more points: Leicester (1 at least or 2 points more, Tall Paul being tugged from Southampton to Timbuktu...actually I think he is still being tugged at this very moment) Ipswich (2 points more, conceded after +5 added) Newcastle (1 point at least, it was all us) Liverpool (could have been 2 with Armstrong's denied pen, should have been 1 point at least) Brighton (2 more, we know!) Wolves (a bit controversial this one but had our legal goal had actually been allowed then who knows after that but Wolves are our bogey team....possible 1 more point) Games we didn't deserve anything in/right result: Brentford (so many mistakes) Bournemouth (worst game I saw us play in) Man Utd (could have been different had we scored that pen) Nottingham Forest (we hardly created) Games we impressed in but knew it would take some miracle: Arsenal Man City
A better performance on 08:53 - Dec 1 with 994 views | mushinexile | A fifth of our points total for the seaso. A massive improvement from a very low baseline. Our players are much better, much, much better than our league position would suggest. VAR and shady refereeing aside, the big problem is Russell Millstone Martin, without whom, we could and should be well out of the relegation zone.
A better performance on 09:32 - Dec 1 with 955 views | 1teeminants | Yes there is definite improvement and the players are behind the manager there’s no doubt about that. We have been unlucky with VAR last two games. We also had excellent away support at Brighton and more songs are coming through, let’s not knock this. Chelsea is a problem with all the suspensions but if we keep battling and reduce the tippy tappy Shyte we have a chance . We can get something from Fulham , Palace and West Ham games.

It’s just a shame we’ve waited until this point of the season to do that. Too little too late springs to mind.

Must be nice looking through those red and white tinted glasses! We can all point to bits of bad luck, but we've had a lot of good luck too. Just to pick one, we were lucky to get our only win of the season against Everton, and as I remember it, VAR helped us out by ruling out their equaliser. As for the Brighton game, a draw was probably right, but if one side deserved to win it, it was Brighton. We are where we deserve to be - rock bottom. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
A better performance on 10:15 - Dec 1 with 852 views | Ifonly | Yeah I agree, it was better. I also liked our aggression. Maybe it was too much at times, but better that than timid defeat. The thing is though, as I've said before, the further we move away from RM's style, the better we play. That's what happened at Brighton, we moved away from RM's style had one of our best performances of the season. But why employ a manager who's style has to be changed to get a decent performance? Why not employ a manager who's style works in the first place? If we had a manager who avoided suicidal defending and believed in getting the ball forward, then we would play better again.

We seem to play better against better opponents. It’s just shite against Wolves, Leicester and the like. Unfortunately that’s the teams we need to be beating. 6 pointers!
| We thought that we had the answers,
It was the questions we had wrong. |

True and that's probably because: - RM is prepared to compromise his style against the top teams to be a bit more pragmatic. He's prepared to accept that we won't dominate possession in those matches. But he thinks we can beat the lesser teams by playing pure Rustyball. - The players are more relaxed if expectations are low and it's not a 6 pointer.

A game of opinions I guess but I think I'm generally right with those matches. We weren't outplayed or anything and the ones we were outplayed I already highlighted and regarding Everton's goal was rightly chalked off so I'm not sure where you are going with that one. Yeah we didn't play well but neither did Everton too. I think we can say the team isn't actually that bad as we have only been outplayed a couple of times as I said but because Martin wants to play the way he wants, it means we have made those mistakes. Deserved to be rock bottom? It could be a number of teams if it wasn't for our style of playing.

"Deserved to be rock bottom? It could be a number of teams if it wasn't for our style of playing." I agree with you there. On Friday, without Ramsdale and Bednarek and without a true centre forward, we were good enough to compete and get a point away at Brighton. That shows what can be done. We'd have a fighting chance of escaping relegation if we changed manager now. But if RM stays in charge and we play like we have done for most of the season, then we will deservedly finish 20th.
