Solihull Match Thread 12:45 - Sep 14 with 24645 views | Delboy | Tough game today. Solihull no mugs based on last seasons efforts. Have seen them twice this season and they tend to sit tight and play on the break. Also skilled in the dark arts particularly killing time at every opportunity. Patience needed from the crowd and plenty of encouragement. No reason we cant win but not expecting us to roll over them. UPTD.

With Gateshead not kicking off till 5.30pm , will we technically be top of the league at 3.01 pm ?

Yes, at 3.01 we were, but at 3.02 we were knocked off our perch by Forest Green Rovers.

Jim set them up to play slowly and without pace we won't get through a very marshalled Solihull. Hope he changes things at half time. We want new fans to go home happy

He set them up the same as the other night! The play has been slow and crucially the passing and ball control has been poor. We can’t blame the manager when we’re playing the same way. His selections are up for debate though.

James it is the frustration. We can't win them all. But we played too slowly and everybody was urging them on. Shame because we had another 300 or so in today who may not come back for a while. Such a shame.

Indeed. Credit to Solihull who came with a game plan and executed it brilliantly. No moans about time wasting when everyone does it including us, they set up to be solid and hit us on the break. Don’t think McNulty got his selection right. Ayinde may have potential but for a loan player he doesn’t offer significantly more than what we have and we improved with Burger in the second half. Our play was too slow with too many poor decisions and passing that wasn’t good enough, that played into their hands. Only late on did we start to shift it quicker, get shots and crosses in when they tired a bit. Quickening that pace was needed throughout and we have to accept it was an off day for too many today. 17 points from 9 games? Well ahead of where I thought we’d be. Some perspective amongst the understandable frustration.

But they may appreciate the endeavour and a side that kept on going. We were a way away from the levels we’ve been playing at, but you’d hope most fans will accept an off day after such a great start to the season.

Solihull Match Thread on 17:27 - Sep 14 with 10129 views | tony_roch975 | As the OP wrote - "they tend to sit tight and play on the break. Also skilled in the dark arts particularly killing time at every opportunity." True to the prediction they didn't disappoint but why then did we not change our formation - 2 in midfield struggled when it was through the middle that we'd likely have success (as with the goal) and why did we select our lightest weight players when it needed us to have dark arts too (eg Henderson). I'm not criticising the players for slow play when it was the formation (until the last 10mins) nor for mistakes when they were the result of opposition pressure. Good effort in the dying minutes but the changes should have been made before the game or at worst at half time.
