Wounded Colchester return to Castle Park 06:33 - Jul 3 with 2224 views | noah4x4 | A heavy defeat at table topping run away leaders Hornchuch CC has inevitably dented hopes of title glory, but the exceptionally youthful Colchester & East Essex CC First XI remain upbeat as they return to Castle Park this weekend (Saturday 08/07) to host Hutton CC. It is the half-way point of the season, so plenty to play for. However, the fixture clashes with the U’s First pre-season fixture. Suggestion….. Play at Castle Park starts at 11.00 and is scheduled to end at 19.10, but is usually later due to over rate allowances. The bar is open throughout. So why not do both, catching the first and last cricket sessions with your footie fix in between? Admission is free, and parking available. Today, until Thursday, Castle Park welcomes Essex Second XI in a county championship fixture against Hampshire. After yesterday’s T20 glory, both counties will be cock a hoop and have named a strong squad full of red ball first team experience. The last such fixture established a number of batting records and once again, award winning groundsman, Jez Sadler, has produced a belter of a pitch. The Essex players love to come to the ‘Park, and it is a shame that the economics don’t favour a return of the First XI Festival, but that conversation continues. Admission is free, and the bar open.

Wounded Colchester return to Castle Park on 20:07 - Jul 5 with 2115 views | SparkfilmsTV | Colchester's Charlie Allison 65 not out tonight as Essex 2nd X1 struggle against Hampshire. He played some innovative shots that flew to the boundary including a six to long on that fizzed past me. Nick Browne made 46 before he clipped a ball to backward square leg and took a slow doom laden walk back to the pavillion. No orange powder to be seen.
Wounded Colchester return to Castle Park on 07:55 - Jul 6 with 2097 views | bwildered | Watched the opening of the Essex 2nd innings, looked like extra bounce at the pavilion end for the seamers . Presume a early tea was taken after heavy downpour curtailed play. So credit to the groundstaff in getting prompt play thereafter .

No orange powder, but the similarly coloured extra hot Peri Peri sauce at lunch disrupted me. Colchester’s Charlie Allison just out for 124. Essex Seconds still fighting, and it could be an interesting last day afternoon. The good news is Charlie should feature for Colchester & East Essex CC on Saturday versus Hutton CC. Free admission today and Saturday - bar open- why not pop down and take a look?

Wounded Colchester return to Castle Park on 00:01 - Jul 9 with 2007 views | noah4x4 | Fantastic entertainment at Castle Park today as Guy Haines (111) and Kiwi Adi Ashok (71 not out) smashed 170 in a second wicket partnership at better than a run a ball. CEEECC overtook Hutton’s 220 to attain a comfortable win with an arrogant six for Charlie Allison’s first scoring shot. To be fair, Hutton’s innings was ponderous, but the many U’s fans attending later in the afternoon missed that tedium as they instead watched our boys score four at Maldon & Tiptree. Looking at the bar receipts, they had a whale of a time. You are always welcome guys. Free admission, cheap real ale.
