RIP 5 Souls On Titanic Submersible Craft 01:11 - Jun 21 with 22301 viewsCLAREMAN1995

I was holding out hope that all 5 people on board will be found and rescued despite the oxygen window closing.
That was until I met a cave diver by pure accident today on a construction site and he crushed my spirit .
If by some miracle the submersible craft makes it to the surface the crew cannot open the rescue hatch from inside .Its bolted shut and can only be opened from outside he mentioned .
Hope they make it because thinking of them inside knowing its over for 3 days is beyond cruel.
Sorry for the downer thread.Hope they are rescued by the time we wake up

Just got home from work watched the coast guard presser and know its over but at least they died instaniously if that helps the families .RIP

Hope springs eternal that this story has a miraculous ending but it's looking bleak.

Unconfirmed reports of sonar picking up regular banging noises. Hopefully some positive news.

Had some Amercan naval expert on submarines talking on the radio this morning.
He reckons the most plausible explanation for this is that with these pressurised subs submerging and coming g up, the intense pressure causes fatigue and eventually fail
I'm no expert but I would have hoped that some sort of scan is done on these things as on aircraft
But I know if I was a UK billionaire before I got my a@se in it I would be scanning the bejusus out of it

“ A submarine expert who worked for OceanGate — the company that operates the missing submersible — warned of potential safety problems in 2018, according to US court documents.

David Lochridge moved from Scotland to Washington state to work for the firm. In a BBC interview in 2017 he enthused about the mission and said it was "destined for the sea".

But less than a year later he warned his bosses that flaws in the Titan's carbon hull might go undetected without more stringent testing, and urged the company to have an outside agency certify the vessel.

He said his verbal warnings were ignored until he wrote a report and was called into a meeting with several officials - including OceanGate chief executive Stockton Rush, who is aboard the missing submersible.

OceanGate responded by firing Lochridge. The company sued him for revealing confidential information, and the submarine expert countersued for unfair dismissal. The lawsuit was later settled.

Through his lawyer, Lochridge declined to comment.

Court documents also state that Lochridge learned that the manufacturers of the Titan’s forward viewport only certified it to a depth of 1,300 metres. The Titanic wreck lies 3,800 metres below the ocean surface.”

Doesn’t look good :(

Hope these people will be ok but a word or two of sympathy about the hundreds missing in the trawler off the coast of Greece would be nice. RIP.

I read that the craft is controlled by a Logitec gaming controller. Hope they charged it fully before they left.
What a terrible way to die, you'd rather a hull breach at a ridiculous depth which would be quick than sitting in pitch black waiting for the oxygen to run out.

Rather like the Richard Branson's idea of Space tourism. Only the mega rich can afford to do it and its bound to go wrong sooner or later.

Exactly this.

I can't remember seeing any topics on this forum started about the countless immigrants that have died fleeing their own countries. But then you get a few billionaires paying a shit ton of money going missing on an activity they don't need to do and people get upset.

Indeed. Indeed.

But of course the immigrants are all terrorist soldiers in disguise with iphone pro max phones and grooming gang memberships, while the billionaires are just having a nice jolly.

The usual suspects will be along soon no doubt!

The design, construction, organisation and management shouts amateur hour. No regulatory oversight just an ex aeronautical engineer leading the whole show for $250k per trip. This is not ending well.

Yeh, I wouldn't wanna get in that thing without a tether either. I do wonder whether the billionaire(s) on board actually wanted to go missing. Getting in that thing for what sounds like a long, quite boring, very dangerous trip.....is needlessly (w)reckless behaviour.

Upon the invention of the aeroplane there was a saying - you'll never get me up in one of those. Now it's you'll never get me down in one of those.
I've always marvelled at the courage of submariners.

What a horrible accident this is and am keeping fingers, toes, and whatever else firmly crossed. As a severe claustrophobe this makes me panic even thinking about it just sitting at the computer.
There's a fleet of specialist equipment racing to the scene as we speak but it's looking grim - nobody's effected a rescue before from that far down before. It may be that the sub will join the Kursk and the USS Thresher.

While reading this the image popped in my mind of a new name being chiselled on to the trophy while the last minutes of a Cup Final are being played out.

It does seem amazing that although a rope may not work that the thing isn't attached a cable or that it doesn't appear to have an effective emergency beacon system on it. As others have said it all feels very reckless. I hope they do get to them in time. It's an unimaginable way to go.

Never knowingly right.

The transatlantic cable was made up of 2 ships carrying 1,500 mile of cable (meeting in the middle and splicing them together) in the mid 19th century so it shouldn't be beyond the wit of man in this day and age to cable something up for a few miles below sea surely?

Too heavy, you wouldn't get far towing that.Even zip wires are substantial.
Carbon nanotube cable the only solution and they're still way off development.
