Gawd - one of my first Rangers games as a nipper. Sadly, I can't remember our goal or the scorer (Givens, Francis?). I'm sure Joe Royle scored for them. They had a decent away kit as I recall with the 2 cross sashes (one red?). That is all. Queen's Silver Jubilee year. Another age.

For me the same fixture a season later was a classic. 2-1 Rs. Super sub Billy Hamilton with a volley to treasure. World class players all around the pitch (which makes Ernie Howe a stowaway). What is it about QPR v Man City games?

thing is back then, the big match covered matches in all 4 leagues, unlike most tv today, so you sort of knew what carlisle were doing or say orient , now we are saturated with PREM LGE crap they big it up so much they must be scared the bubble would burst, the fa cup final day was an all day event . now it is a hindrance??

Because the football was regionalised the smaller franchises like Anglia who only had two teams in the top division would occasionally have to venture out to their other teams like Peterborough, Cambridge and Colchester to avoid claims that they would only show Ipswich and Norwich.
Even a big region like Granada would do it. On one of the recent series of TBMR from 1981 I think, the match shown from Granada was a Wigan game from division four where if they won they would be promoted.
