The Great Escape: other games thread. 20:50 - Dec 30 with 28955 views | 442Dale | When we avoided relegation in 17/18 after being so far adrift, I think there was a similar thread towards the end of the season which followed the scores of the other clubs around us. In the spirit of superstition starting it now could help again. Theory being the earlier the better and safe by Easter. Crawley losing 2-0 to Stevenage at the moment tonight.

It’s a shame they had that mini upturn in form as it really could have been them and one other as someone else said the other day.

The other question perhaps is will any other club slide through to join the relegation contenders? It has been known to happen before!

Crawley a definite possible, with their internal issues too

Colchester winning though. Harrogate have shown how putting some wins together can lead to a massive change in outlook. They were considered in real trouble before three wins in a row recently. As it stand me now, they’re ten points clear of the bottom two.

And Hartlepool are ahead but we have those games in hand and an ever so slightly better goal difference.

And in order to match them over our 2 games in hand, we need at least a draw tomorrow Just goes to show what a dire reverse the defeat to them on Boxing Day was

The Great Escape: other games thread. on 18:28 - Jan 1 with 9907 views | NorthernDale | Anything less then a draw then we a buggered, the other teams are picking up wins, I would a win, but with that team, I cannot see us getting anything. Jim, needs to make changes tomorrow and stop giving the players that have failed time after time. Tomorrow I would take a chance and drop Nelson, John, Ball and Odoh (I suspect that this won't happen). The team, I would select and it may not win, but it may put up more of a fight. It is a tall ask but apparently these are professional footballer. Bloomin' well go out and show why you earn a living playing this game. Why when a scout saw you playing the game as a youngster thought yes this lad has potential. Play with some effing determination and leave everything on the picture. Do these players want on their record relegating a team that through thick and thin despite despite not having wealthy backers not being a darling of the media and being a go to team for TV coverage. Have stood up been counted and survived.

The Great Escape: other games thread. on 20:52 - Jan 1 with 9692 views | _Stefan_Kuntz | BlackDogBlue asked about this on Carlisle United's FootyMad board. Based on the last 10 League Two seasons the average number of points needed to finish 1 point above 23rd is 44.2. In season 2021/22 Biffos finished on 38 points, hence 39 is the requirement if you want to base your hopes on last season's escape total. The respective escape totals (1 point more than 23rd) starting 10 years ago to last season are 52, 51, 42, 35, 47, 47, 42, 41, 46 & 39. [Post edited 1 Jan 2023 20:54]

I take your point James.. I don't feel its lack of effort on the pitch...sadly some of these players simply don't have the ability to perform consistently at this level. I go into games now expecting us to lose. Jim B has a horrendous task on his hands. How many of these players have put in an above average performance over 5 games on at least 3 occasions? No i cant think of one either... The writing is firmly on the wall ..lets hope Jan can give us some hope otherwise i think we will be dead and buried by mid march. I live in hope rather than expectation

Will be interesting to see the team selection and subs today, that should tell us who is no longer at the club. Just going off what JB said in his post match interview on Thurs. Let’s hope we have a couple of players in before weekend.

On the flip side, while we’d rather have them beaten Crawley, beating Newport on Saturday would see us make up more ground on them over the week with them “only” drawing today. Should have called this “The Straw Clutching Thread of Doom”.

Five teams still running at less than a point a game. Seven heading for less than 48 points on current form. As we stand, with recent history taken into account, would take that 48 figure as par. Worth reviewing again at the end of the month.

And 12 of those 23 deliveries are home games with 36 points on offer. Home form is the key to anything good and for all of us to try to help that in whatever little way we can. Still to visit Spotland (league postion as of tonight): 1. Newport County (18th) 2. Colchester United (21st) 3. Carlisle United (4th) 4. Northampton Town (3rd) 5. Gillingham (24th) 6. Stockport County (13th) 7. Stevenage (2nd) 8. Swindon Town (6th) 9. Walsall (9th) 10. Bradford (5th) 11. Tranmere (15th) 12. Sutton (12th) All to play for for all teams at the top and bottom of the league, save for Leyton Orient who look so far ahead they won't be caught.
