Feck'in hell, those 2nd and 3rd goals were something else, Could you just imagine defending like that now, we'd be going banzai, Who was playing centre half with Darren Peacock that day, was it Gus Caesar?

It was a couple of years after Augustus Ceasar's imperious reign.

At that point he was making Tony Roberts look good and Gerry also felt the same. Can't be arsed to look at the stats that season but I remember Palace were relegated so wonder how many away games they won other than that one? Reckon it wasn't that many. Some things will never change. [Post edited 12 Dec 2022 20:30]

30 Years On on 21:04 - Dec 12 with 3393 views | PeterHucker | I remember that game all too well unfortunately. When Chris Armstrong scored he ran along the front of the Loft swearing at us. I swore copiously back at him & got thrown out by a steward! As a young hot headed 21 year old, I was furious about it at the time. But now I just think it's all a bit embarrassing. Back then I wrote a pretty ropy article for A Kick Up The Rs about how unjust I thought this whole incident was. The only good thing about the article was the headline I came up with, The Eagle Has Slandered. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

| And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles

Remember that game, comical defending. That was some team though. Look at that line up! What we do for any of those players now.

Is that the best side QPR has ever fielded? No injuries or suspensions, probably. Presumably round about that time, a team was fielded that had Barker for Holloway and Allen for Penrice but those are marginal, debatable upgrades. Was this team better than the Parkes, Francis and Bowles team that finished second? Ferdinand better than Bowles? Francis better than Wilkins?

Good question. I think they are very close, and definitely the best QPR teams I saw playing, but the 76 side just nudges it for me - despite lacking the mental strength needed to get over the, line and win a title that was theirs for the taking. Be interesting in a virtual world to pit them against each other.
30 Years On on 15:42 - Dec 13 with 2879 views | Hoopstar | My first ever QPR game - still got the bug as a six year old. My old man had taken me to a Spurs game earlier in the season but bloke in front of me swore through the game and I hated it - so QPR it was!

Best team that I ever saw, though Barker for Holloway as Barker could score the odd belter. Dont forget Danny Maddix either. Happy glorious days, where the sun always shone and the football was always great.

No one ever made Roberts look good, Stejskal was vastly superior. Roberts only had any popularity because he used to chat to the fans behind the goal.

Little did we know that the 92/93 season was to be our high point of the following 30 years!!! Coincidentally, the only worse 3 goal collection since then was Kiwomya's hat-trick against Palace in 1999.

Barker for Holloway and that was arguably our strongest side that season. I seem to recall we absolutely battered Palace first half but were only one up and the second half was just a disaster. I was stood at the back of the loft when that deflection from Eddie bloody McGoldrick went flying towards the top corner!

30 Years On on 23:20 - Dec 14 with 2396 views | numptydumpty | Roberts was a clown. Stejskal was the iceman. Brilliant goalkeeper who apparently knew not one word of English. Barker would have for Holloway and think if Wegerle was still there that season. Would have him ahead of Penrice, although Holloway and Penrice both had their moments in that great season. Best QPR season I saw in the flesh. Such a consistent season.
