It won't be long before another piece of s***housery comes to the fore & I'm surprised it hasn't already reared it's head!

Under pressure in defence but somehow you win the ball but have no team mate to give the ball to. No problem. Play it against the referee & have the ball returned to you with no opponents close by.

Which player/team will be the first to do this deliberately?

BTW. Thanks Clive, another enjoyable report to read.

Got to be a pretty clever player and a poor referee (positioning) for that to happen.

The one I have expected to see more is the drop ball back to GK, whoever had it when play was stopped if the ball is in the penalty area - that one's open to obvious abuse and surprised we haven't seen it!

Perhaps if the doc/physio comes on then the player HAS to go to the changing room for a check up and can’t re-enter the play for say 5 minutes.
If said player is true oh injured you are allowed to bring on a sub before the 5 minutes are up.
The option of playing with 10 men for 5 minutes each time will soon clear the mind!

You're miles better at me than remembering oppo players so you might be able to name this one.

He had done 'something' to his shoulder so could have been 'treated' off the pitch, but not only did he spend some time ON the pitch with the physio, waving his arm around, he then slow walked off with a slight limp???!!!!!!, before, of course, sprinting back on straight away.

That one REALLY got me!

That was Maguire

I watched Johansen's reaction as that was unfolding. His first reaction was a shake of the head because he knew exactly what Maguire was up to, then he just just stood and observed with a wry grin and I just hope in that moment he was thinking the same as the rest of us - get up you t@sser

Poll: Is time up for Ainsworth?

Enjoyed the report and glad we prevailed in the end.

On a different topic I feel that Seny has not reached the same heights as last season. I don't know whether playing in front of noisy crowds has affected his concentration levels as he looked flawless in empty grounds when it came to shot saving.

He has let a few in on his near post recently and then the howler at Albion. The first Preston goal was odd in that the angle was not great and the shot was powder puff but somehow it went straight through Seny as if he was a ghost. In my view that goal was worse than the Baggies one as there was bad luck there but this one he had time to close his legs to block a rather tame shot.

Maybe I am a hard taskmaster.

Take the timekeeping out of the ref's hands, have a clock displayed in the ground that is stopped every time play is stopped or the ball goes out of play. That would stamp out all timewasting overnight.

I also have a novel solution for what people politely called "simulation" rather than the correct word which is "cheating"

Use the VAR more and if a player is found to have been diving or playacting, then the opposition is allowed to actually do what they've been accused of.

For example if you roll over holding your leg, the opposition gets a free kick in your shins.

Go down clutching your face, if the replay shows that you faked it then the ref holds your arms behind your back while the burly centreback gets to punch you in the face.

That'd soon put a stop to it.

As others have said, they don't do it just to waste time.

A lot of it, is to take the 'heat' out of the game, very difficult to stop that, as Clive has said.

Referees can't just ignore an 'injured' player.

True. However the league could institute rules that cut back on the ref baiting. For example in the NHL no player is allowed to talk to the referee except the team captain (or alternate if he's not on the ice.) If they do it's a penalty. If cards were given immediately for challenging a decision, then the mobbing of referees would end PDQ.

The other end of the spectrum with football smarts was really well refrenced in your report, Clive, with Dykes chasing down the bouncing ball. Defender in all sorts of bother running back towards his goal and as you say, 9/10 he collapses under contact and it's a free kick. For Dykes to realise that, maintain the chase but also make it clear that there's no foul, was brilliant and showed a lot of composure.

Dykes is quietly turning into a great all-around Championship number 9 - his build up play, finishing and composure are all slowly creeping up to meet his work rate and now we're seeing the clear benefits of sticking with him through those first 6 months. I like that he's good enough to be an Intl and very pleased he chose Scotland over Oz, but you can't help be a little disappointed that he's not getting the same level of rest and coaching that other young players are benefitting from

If a player goes down, and it's not a foul, then regardless of who comes on or not then the time play is held up should be the time he spends off the field. Not this thing of coming back on instantly.

What I don't get with PNE is that this "game management" approach has been their go to strategy for away games for, what, 5, 6, 7 years ? So that pre-dates the current manager, pre-dates Neil, was it Grayson before him ? And very few players (maybe Johnson and Browne) have been there 5+ years. So how does this get so deeply entrenched in their DNA ? Is it an interview question before joining "can you act like a complete dick when we're 1 up away ?" Very odd.

Superb as per normal Clive, been on the PNE forum and they hate our commentary team with a passion. Many comments like these.

Watching QPR stream. God I hope we beat these after listening to their deluded commentary. Apparently we’re ‘known for going down at the slightest touch’.

Maguire down, knob head QPR commentator shouting 'don't fall for it ref, this is Preston'. What a wa nker

These QPR commentators are a right pair of knobs. Dickie jumps and misses a header in our area, and they claim the ref bottled giving a penalty?? They also said at start of game that 'Preston' have a reputation for throwing themselves on the floor.

There are loads more on there forum link below I started it at page 6 the start of the game.

This sort of behaviour has been endemic at PNE for years now.
When you live in your sh*t for too long you don't smell it after a while.
Bless those fans..they're deluded.
Mcguire did get caught by Dickie but at that stage it was the boy who cried "wolf"
