Swansea City v Millwall : Matchday Thread 2020/21 GAME ON ! on 22:08 - Sep 15 by AndyCole | Odd how some choose to lash out on our talisman, Grimesy. Martin's captain and main man, as per. Downes was a spare part, a waste of a shirt playing alongside Naughts. Martin needs to flex his model of always playing one (and often 2) deep lying CDMs. So yesteryear. . . |

He was ok first 30 mins after that not a lot and really should have scored awful miss

So over those 7 games we have a higher % of those shots hitting the target, nothing to get excited over if we compare goals or league position based on those 7 games but this season can't be compared to the last 2 seasons taking things into consideration. |
But you still aren’t coming up with the correct calculation for that. You are dividing shots on target by shots. That’s incorrect. To work out accuracy you have to find out what % the on target number is in relation to the shots number. Coopers first season:- 40.7% accuracy Coopers second season:- 34.6% accuracy This season:- 33.8% accuracy Really not too sure what you are thinking here Daps. [Post edited 15 Sep 2021 22:40]

I think Downes is a superb player, let's not forget that a week before he joined us, Bournemouth were trying to sign him rather than push ahead with Grimes. They didn't push ahead as they wouldn't meet Ipswich's valuation but it's clear that they were Foolish not too. Boy is class.

I thought he might bite. And completely expose his lack of football knowledge. Downes is already a better player than Grimes. Take the concrete overcoat (Grimes) from weighing him down then he’ll get even better.

He was an excellent, largely spare part until the game got scrappy in the second half and he had to cover for knackered players and those falling over. Could have played him in the back three and we wouldn't have suffered for it.

Nor me to be honest, works hard in fairness, but its got to be one or the other for me in Grimes or Paterson getting nowhere with both there at the expense of Walsh, Ntcham or even Piroe and Obafemi playing up front, Grimes in front of Defence, Ntcham, Walsh and Piroe and Obafemi in front, Ntcham out wide looked a waste tonight, I only saw 2nd half though.

Downes was indeed class tonight for me, when he gets on the ball going forwards he is a danger, just needs more confidence because there was one opportunity he could have run the length of their half and scored, but chose to pass. His covering and pace is an asset as well. We all have opinions though. He is better than Fulton for me.

I have to agree on Paterson, offered next to nothing in terms of quality. Piroe looked like Borja out there for me. Sorry. Obafemi has to start. Downes can play. Ntcham looks like he has something. Walsh and the keeper were positives. I think we will improve but we coukd also take a pasting here and there as we are not solid. Kyle never made a mistake all night long.

Superb player and Grimes and him can't play in the Midfield 2 together, Downes takes the slot as it stands so far. Grimes as I say needs to be taken out there but I would certainly play him on the left of the back 3. I like Grimes and certainly adds something but not in the position he is at present and in line with the way the team is trying to play.

He's better than Fulton yes, Fulton will play this season though, he's a decent player, but we got to many Midfielders who are quite samey, so its a bit of a conundrum. If Walsh can stay fit, he plays for me Obafemi as well, two games in a week is to much for Ntcham at the moment.

If you think Obafemi is better than Piroe - you’re watching the wrong sport. Maybe you should try crown green bowls?

Says the village idiot who thought Paterson was effective tonight. Try painting by numbers, you are sure to be better at that. You tell me what minutes i need to rewatch Piroe as a threat on goal and i will go take another look. You also advocated Obafemi to start earlier in thread, so no idea why you are having a temper tantrum about that. At least Obafemi was some sort of threat and should have scored when Walsh played him in. I dont think football is for you. You are a bit twp.

We do. Opinions hey. Downes isn't comparable with Fulton. Different players, different positions. Our best, tried and tested combo is Grimes CDM with Fulton CM picking up 2nd phase and linking further forward with our #10/#9. At CDM, Downes lacks Grimesy's vision, awareness and timing in sniffing out danger. "nd half we almost conceded when Downes fluffed his defensive lines covering out wide right. He has much to learn in that space and as such was a total spare part in a game which we should have been driving and winning. . .

I must be honest I thought Obafemi was a breath of fresh air when he came on. Lifted the crowd. He had great pace, looked a threat, should have scored and with more game time I think he would take those chances. Ntcham and Piroe, I thought didn't have great games. Piroe wanted through balls played to him but they weren't happening for whatever reason, Obafemi was finding space and getting played in more. Obafemi held ball up really well, great touch on the ball, more pace than Piroe. Must start next match against Luton. Downes was strong in midfield and made positive runs. Grimes could learn a thing or two from him.

You’re the one rubbishing clearly the best striker we’ve had in years not me. Obafemi and Piroe should play up front together but you seem to be advocating playing Obafemi as a lone striker. Obafemi May have pace but Piroe has the proven finishing ability , the best movement and general all round play. Oba fluffed his big chance tonight - Piroe would have buried it if it fell to him. You’re a bit of a div aren’t you . Paterson had far more of an impact on the game than he has been in previous matches - the real problem for all our attacking players is Grimes getting in Downes way and slowing our play down to Cooper speed. Now kindly buzz off there’s a good little boy - isn’t there some brexit or independence thread screaming out for your “input “? Best leave the football discussions to those who understand it. Off you , er, trott.

Put him on ignore for Gods sake. If we had quicker ball from front to back (still playing a possession game) then we’d be seeing more goals. Or rather seeing some goals. As it is we’re playing Cooper lite at the back and allowing the opposing teams to reset. When Downes brought the ball forward in the first half it resulted in a good chance. It’s easy to set up against balls being knocked around the back - the pressing midfielders find it easy to snuff out the occasional ball forward to the likes of Patterson as it is so slow. When you carry the ball past players as Downes did it pulls everyone out of position defensively. It’s not rocket science. Imagine if Ntcham was doing that with his power. Just go back to The Bristol and Reading away games when Piroe ran at a retreating defence - scored with one had the other one on target and unlucky not to score.

Swansea City v Millwall : Matchday Thread 2020/21 AFTERMATH on 07:58 - Sep 16 with 740 views | 34dfgdf54 | We are toothless going forward, lack of goals was always going to be a worry losing Ayew, Lowe and Roberts who I assume played a part in a very, very big percentage of our goals last year. But there is certain things Martin needs to do to remedy it. It's either Grimes or Downes for me, I'd opt for the latter personally. It's no slight on Grimes, I'm a huge fan it is too pedestrian in there at present. We need a genuine 8 next to them then, I'd give Dan Williams a run if Walsh isn't fit to start. Get Whittaker on the bench in front of Cullen who unfortunately offers very, very little. Obafemi replacing Paterson aswell.
