Match Thread: Rochdale vs Charlton on 21:23 - Feb 6 by D_Alien | And impossible to make up the time by going marginally faster between stations? A perfect example of how to induce a negative mindset by concentrating only on one Aspect (see what i did there) of the overall journey Apply that to BBM, and what he's doing is trying to play a brand of football that doesn't suit the type of game that leads to success in League One, whilst having no regard for the paying public (fans/passengers) |
They will already be going as fast as they are able to on the other sections of track though and it isn't just stations they have to brake for. Double and signal yellow signals & of course red which they must stop for, speed limits whether they are fixed or a temporary restriction. and junctions. A lot of TOCs do have a leaf fall time table to allow for the issues leaves really do cause basically they allow a bit more time. https://www.networkrail.co.uk/running-the-railway/looking-after-the-railway/dela Cut down the trees you might say the problem there is doing that can lead to land slips or slides.

Which is precisely my point A known likely problem should be catered for, and planning undertaken accordingly. You're suggesting it does - therefore there should be no excuses along the (railway) lines of "delays due to leaves on line" Apply that back to planning for the opposition. We played Charlton a few short weeks ago, it's suggested we scout them too, therefore there should be a game plan put in place which allows us a foothold in the game Instead, we put our players onto the pitch at the COA with no game plan other than to adhere to a specific method of ball retention irrespective of what the opposition throw at us, as if we couldn't have anticipated it - as they very readily do with us In management terms, it's unacceptable [Post edited 6 Feb 2021 21:52]

We are playing them after their first win following 3 defeats in a row there will be the new manager effect as well (that doesn't mean a new manager guarantees survival) So a result against MK Dons is therefore imperative so we can make the trip to Surrey brimming with confidence. But then my concern is will MK see the game against us as one to get back on track and pull away from the drop zone. This was in response to Sandyman's post about Wimbledon's home form. And while the opposition may or may not be affected by those factors, it’s about what we are doing: see Judd’s post about this going on for the last three years and other posts which identify our own, and the manager’s, continued mistakes/inability to address repetitive problems of our own making. At this stage we have to almost stop looking how the other team is playing to move forward. All on us.

To believe we won't get any injuries is massively naive, even more so going with a small squad with knowingly injury prone players is pretty stupid

Regardless James Wimbledon have just sacked their manager and won today. They are not such an easy target and there are no banker games when we play like Jekyll and Hyde . We have to play to win and not hope that others are worse than we are. Our players are individually better than this. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

We'd need a reliable b(l)ack five which we haven't got Edit: just to prevent any misunderstanding among non-afficionardos, a "black five" is the nickname given to a heavy duty locomotive, based on its wheel configuration) [Post edited 7 Feb 2021 4:22]

Surely they can see the problems or are our current coaching team in far too deep with the cult of possession, processes and metrics, they can't see what is staring them in the face whilst repeatedly slapping them?

No injuries yes naive but Mclaughlin and McShane aside we've certainly had more than our fair share and to key players as well.

Maybe that is true but we don't have the depth in our squad to counter losing our first choice players so an injury crisis effects us more

Match Thread: Rochdale vs Charlton on 23:15 - Feb 6 with 2007 views | 49thseason | If we are to survive in L1 for much longer, we simply cannot carry on picking up an average of just over 1 point per home game. In the last 4 seasons including this one, we have won 20 home games from 75 played, drawing 26 and losing 29 That's 86 points from 75 games we have scored 84 goals and conceded 110 if this were away form it wouldn't be too bad but when you expect to sell tickets its just not good enough. "Fortress Spotland " is a long forgotten memory, Its all very well having a "system" but when the system isn't capable of scoring many more than one a game at home, its isn't fit for purpose. We allow teams to get onto the front foot from the kick off, and from there on, they simply work harder and smother our attacking attempts. We don't have the strength, pace, or attacking intent to cause other teams harm. Spotland is a big pitch, maybe too big for the quality of players we seem to attract.

Match Thread: Rochdale vs Charlton on 00:45 - Feb 7 with 1913 views | Hopwoodblue | There doesn’t seem to be a plan to identify which teams we can pick points up from at home. Yes losing at home Charlton isn’t a disgrace under normally circumstances with their finances it will always be tough against teams like them, but if we had five or six home wins already under our belt by going for the jugular against the lesser teams today wouldn’t be such an issue but we just seem to play the same way who ever we play with no urgency to obtain the three points against the Wimbledon’s and Northampton’s who are struggling as much as we are. Make no mistake losing to teams like Charlton and Hull will not define any season but having the gumption to pick points up at home to the teams around us will determine whether we stay up or not. Like I said a few weeks ago I find it hard to take that BBM is putting his own beliefs before RAFC sadly to it’s detriment and that I find hard to take. I’ve watched the Dale see since 1973 and back then you had to accept that sometimes we were just were not good enough all round, not because we persisted in playing the type of football we weren’t capable of playing. I think BBM has been afforded the luxury of money to buy players which many a Dale manager hasn’t but sadly is not using them to best of their ability. He’s also a very lucky man that the type of football being displayed at home is not being witnessed by ever decreasing crowds which might make the board sit up and pay more attention to what’s actually going on. If we do go down will we carry on playing the same way next season ? If we do I fear we will be in the same boat again only this time relegation would be a total disaster for the club and all because Brian wants to play nice Premier League style football. Sorry Brian my club is more important than your ideals.

Taking today's performance in isolation I can't really blame Brian's football ethos or an RAFC identity - it was just rank bad. We didn't piss around with the ball at the back, both the Charlton goals weren't defensive mistakes as such. In the first half especially Bazunu was just launching the ball downfield to give away possession, our passing was non existent, we didn't have any attacking moves, no wide play or getting balls into the box, no attempts at goal. We just looked clueless. Tuesday is a massive game now - we need a plan to beat MK Don's and all the players must realise they are running out of time and excuses. We need a performance at home - we need to get at MK from the 1st whistle and show some tempo and speed to our play.

You can’t fool the fans, Brian.

Match Thread: Rochdale vs Charlton on 12:54 - Feb 7 with 1286 views | Nafelad | I now have big regrets that I bought a season ticket last Spring. I wish I 'd known then that I wouldn't receive value for money. I don't think I would still be watching 'free pass' home games if it wasn't for something to do in lockdown. We need cheering up when we can, but watching The Dale play home matches has the opposite effect! I felt frustrated and depressed at 5 o'clock yesterday, and still do - I suppose the feeling will wear off by 7 o'clock on Tuesday, and probably return at around 9 o'clock.

Match Thread: Rochdale vs Charlton on 12:59 - Feb 7 with 1277 views | jonahwhereru | Sounds like I was fortunate to miss the game. The podcast the other day mentioned we were last ranked in pressing other teams. When you have no one on the bench to affect a game I can accept that the players on the field can’t go full tilt from the first whistle. However the bench we can now name means we should be at it from the start. We can afford for the likes of Rathbone / Dooley/ Newby to be spent by 70 minutes. For Tuesday I would like Lund alongside Rathbone, Morley wider and Shaughnessy sat behind them. With either Vale or Newby supporting Humphrys. Baah to be used if the game gets stretched. I accept they might beat our press and open us up (they are a passing side), but thats football. We need to start bossing the middle. We have the resources to do it.
