Great choices in this thread. All the English stuff from Randall & Hopkirk to The Sweeney I love. The resemblance between Jim Rockford (Class act!) and Jim McNulty of The Wire (best television show of any genre) is striking.
Anyway lest we forget Bonehead & Foyle ...

Has Law & Order been mentioned? Watched this when I was 12. Everything else I've seen since has been a confection. Only The Wire has equalled/ surpassed.

The shield is my favourite show of all time. QPR and the shield - you have good taste my friend ðŸ‘ðŸ‘ðŸ‘
Thank you sir, you too. I’ve been working my way through The Shield again during lockdown, currently half way through the final season. Better than ever. My new hero is Detective Steve Billings, the vending machine king.
Is a US Marshal a cop? Throw in Justified.

Technically I don't think these guys were actually cops, some shadowy government agency instead, but still the best TV program from my youth.
Has been surpassed by loads mentioned on this thread, but at the time was amazing.
And what a theme tune. Still gets me to this day. One of these days I'm driving a car thru a plate glass window whist shouting 'Bodie NO!' at the top of my voice.
