Had an average Shiraz. I'm always sucked in by Taylor Wines great labelling but the wines are pretty ordinary.

I'm always amazed by the marketing of Taylors Wines. They do five different labels between $12 and $30 for Clare Valley Shiraz (and Clare is a great place to grow Shiraz), but they are all just average QPR (Quality/Price Ratio, for those not in the industry). They also festoon their bottles with a plethora of Australian bronze medals (which are a fair sign of reasonable commercial wine) or, worse, a bunch of silver and gold awards from overseas (which, imho, signify nothing except, maybe, 'not badly faulted').

Find yourself some decent family-owned labels like De Bortoli's, McWilliams, Barrys (they're both good) in the Clare and so on. I like to see wineries that try to beat their opposition at whatever price point.
