All you late night lagboats. on 02:25 - Aug 2 by ozexile | Had an average Shiraz. I'm always sucked in by Taylor Wines great labelling but the wines are pretty ordinary. |
I'm always amazed by the marketing of Taylors Wines. They do five different labels between $12 and $30 for Clare Valley Shiraz (and Clare is a great place to grow Shiraz), but they are all just average QPR (Quality/Price Ratio, for those not in the industry). They also festoon their bottles with a plethora of Australian bronze medals (which are a fair sign of reasonable commercial wine) or, worse, a bunch of silver and gold awards from overseas (which, imho, signify nothing except, maybe, 'not badly faulted'). Find yourself some decent family-owned labels like De Bortoli's, McWilliams, Barrys (they're both good) in the Clare and so on. I like to see wineries that try to beat their opposition at whatever price point. | |
