Cricket tour v SA 12:00 - Dec 18 with 30397 views | D_Alien | Jimmy Anderson back in action since breaking down in August, and taking a wicket in the first warm-up game Looking forward to this tour, as the team looks to establish a new sense of purpose in the test arena. Ben Stokes had a great tour last time, and should be feeling in good fettle Incidentally, batting for the SA XI, Matthew Arnold. I wondered what he'd been up to after writing Dover Beach

Cricket tour v SA on 12:54 - Jul 26 by Nigeriamark | Just the 6 wickets!!! Mystifying why he didn't open the bowling this morning and only came on after the follow on was avoided. It will be interesting to hear the reasons especially as he bowled so well yesterday |
Absolutely. I always thought you should open the day with the bowlers most likely to take wickets. I could understand Archer bowling at Dowrich initially but either Anderson or Broad should have been on at the other end. England need to push on today and try to get a lead of over three hundred. The question is do you assume tomorrow will be a washout and declare later today?

Couldn't have been a better day for England. I think Windies are probably mentally in this game & may not get to 200 if we get enough play I think Broad has a decent chance of MOM !!!!

Saturday was supposed to be a wash out as well so hopefully it will throw it down tonight and clear up tomorrow. After a poor opening spell by Archer and Woakes it was all England. Excellent innings by Root to up the tempo. Batting when you are ahead of the game is certainly easier. The games come thick and fast with the one day series starting on Thursday.
Cricket tour v SA on 12:08 - Jul 27 with 1752 views | D_Alien | If, when play finally resumes, Brathwaite becomes Broad's 500th test wicket, it'll be one almighty coincidence He was also Jimmy Anderson's 500th test wicket https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/41076633

tbf, it was a reasonable assumption that if Anderson didn't get him first, Broad would!

Cricket tour v SA on 15:00 - Jul 28 with 1570 views | isitme | All over and pretty comfortable in the end, even with the rain delays. If only we could start the first game of a series! Fair play to the Windies. They fronted up, but their batting has been found out during the last two tests. Roll on the Pakistan series. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Cricket tour v SA on 15:02 - Jul 28 with 1569 views | D_Alien | Broad finishes with a 10-fer, only the 7th England player to score a half-century and take 10 wickets in a match West Indies tailed off badly, a combination of England reasserting themselves after their usual slow start, couple of poor decisions by Holder after winning the toss and putting England in, but most of all i suspect, going stir crazy after being in their bubble away from home for so long. It's been said before, but great credit overall to them for coming on tour in the first place

If anyone had put money on that in 2017 when Anderson reached the 500, there'd be an investigation starting right now about match fixing!

Cricket tour v SA on 14:26 - Aug 6 with 1402 views | D_Alien | 187-5 at lunch, just 48 runs conceded in the first session for 3 wickets - England had Pakistan on the back foot So what does Root do? Brings himself on (with Bess) straight after lunch with 5 overs to the new ball. Starts conceding a shedful and concede 54 runs in the first 10 overs Grrrrrrr!!!!!

Cricket tour v SA on 14:34 - Aug 6 with 1381 views | isitme | And then the new ball gets the treatment! I am sure that Woakes and Archer could have bowled a few overs each and then backed up Anderson and Broad.

It sets up a potentially fascinating day tomoz, and surely we won't start our second innings as badly as our first? It's gonna be more great cricket!

Don't bet on it. We could easily be 40-3 at lunch or 60-0 Need to get these last 2 out within 5 overs as a 30 or 40 run extra will make it very tough with only having a top 6

We'll know a lot more by lunch, whether chasing 260 or 290 and then how we've started Enjoying watching this talented Pakistani team perform, amazing young quicks and seeing two leg-spinners in tandem is a treat - a real test for our batsmen with which they'll have to come to terms over the next few weeks

Yeah some real nice variety in the Pakistan attack. Also, great to see a competent wicketkeeper for a change :)

His keeping to Abbas was excellent. 277 to win. A sunnier and less humid day is a plus for batting but can the openers see off the new ball to set a platform for victory?

Fair play to their tail for clattering us around, wresting the psychological advantage back And good call on Rizwan's keeping, standing up to Abbas. Worked better than Stokes' ploy of standing out of his stumps! No expectations for England's chase, but making it into a crawl could be painful... [Post edited 8 Aug 2020 11:24]

To be fair that ball that got Stokes was a beauty. I get why he is batting so far out of his crease - negate the lack of pace and reduce his chance of being lbw. Crawling will just invite pressure and men around the bat, especially with the leg spinners. Positive intent will eventually move them into run saving positions.

As long as I’ve watched Pakistan they have had 2 types of team. Talented and destructive or talented and self destructive. They could win this by 100 runs or lose it by 7 wickets. You never know [Post edited 8 Aug 2020 11:40]

And exactly the same team could be both within the same series!
