Fans' Forum with Sadler 11:58 - Jun 27 with 6482 views | spell_chekker | Some good news that we've all been waiting for and very pleasing that we've all been treated equally with the news being released the correct way, on the club's website - Fans' Forum With New Owner On Monday Simon Sadler To Meet Broad Cross-Section of Fan Base Blackpool FC is to hold a ‘Meet The Owner’ Fans' Forum on Monday (1st July). New owner Simon Sadler will be at Blackpool FC next week and has indicated he would like to meet with a broad cross-section of the fan base in order to start building a relationship with supporters. The event, which is by invitation only, is intended to allow for an exchange of information and aspirations between Simon and fans as the club enters into this new phase. In order to make the discussion as productive as possible, the number of attendees will be restricted to 80. A quarter of the places will be offered equally to committee members of the main fans’ organisations BSA, BST, MSG, TKs, BASIL, Yorkshire Seasiders and Leyland and Chorley Seasiders. The majority of places will be open for allocation to the wider fan base, by application to the new Supporters’ Liaison Officer. If the event is over-subscribed, there will be a random draw to help decide on those in attendance, cross-referenced to the attendance list from the March Fans’ Forum to give priority to those who did not attend the earlier forum. The Fans' Forum will be held on Monday at Bloomfield Road in Rowley’s, arrival from 6.30pm for a prompt 7.00pm start. When emailing to apply for one of the 60 open places, please answer all of the following: 1) The two questions you would most like to ask Simon Sadler: 2) Your Age: 3) Supporters' Group Affiliations (if any): 4) 2019/20 Season Ticket holder Y/N (block if applicable): 5) Corporate user (ie lounge/1953) Y/N: 6) Fylde Coast based or Exile: The personal information above is being sought for demographic purposes only. The two questions for Simon will be used to help shape the agenda even if you are not able to attend the event. Please register your interest and send answers to slo@blackpoolfc.co.uk by 5pm tomorrow (Friday 28th June).

Fans' Forum with Sadler on 00:40 - Jul 1 by BringBackTheRedRoom | Jane It will be to try & get a proper cross section of supporters at the forum. Let's say 150 BST members applied, and about 15 people who were not affiliated to any supporters group. In a total random draw you could end up with 57/58 BST members being drawn for the 60 places. You would want to even that out slightly to get more of a cross section (well I would). You could email Steve and ask him to confirm the process he used. |
If it’s a random draw then that’s what it should be. Nothing more, nothing less. We’re all Blackpool supporters, no one better than the next person.

I am sure that Steve can explain what was done. I suspect, if anything, that BST will end up being under-represented in the attendees as a whole. At least Jane applied. There will be plenty of heat and light from people who didn't.

Yes, I'm sure it's been done correctly. I was a bit shocked when I first read it and overreacted, as usual.

This isn't a rant. It's a fans' forum and not WW3 breaking out. Anyway. I don't know what format the draw was in but I disagree that it should be a straight random draw. There are instances in many walks of life where things are weighted, or seeded, for good reason. To move forward in a modern way a helping hand in the right direction is needed. Dominance by one section of society maintains an unhealthy status quo. It's not inclusive and holds certain people back, making it more difficult them to break through and make an impact. An example of this would be the ratio of black footballers when compared to black supporters or managers. As I said, it's only a fans' forum at BFC so there's no point in getting hot under the collar about it but I do think it's a point worth considering and moving toward in the future. As much as anything else, it's a question of opening the club up to a larger fanbase and growing in a positive way.

I'm not sure the photo's entirely representative. There are loads of Yaaarkies sitting at the front. They're all women who just look like men. They're all under 25 as well but have lead hard lives down t'pit since the age of 3. A closed shop dictates that people will resist but with a little help it will change, in time. It's been a good day.

It’s a fair point Jane. I’m not one for positive discrimination as I that undermines women and minority’s in general. But yes, not many females evident in that pic!

You've all seen Seaside Lee's video. There were a couple of women and younger fans present and there are reasons for that. You've read my posts on the subject and I think the reasons for us having such a narrow fan base have to and can change for the better of everyone. I could expand further but I'll risk boring the socks of you. The last thing that I think is that anything underhand in the selection process went on. I've no doubts about the sincerity or abilities of anyone involved.

Let's also keep things proportionate. It was a fan's forum, not the sermon on the mount. I feel reassured by Simon Sadler btw.

Like you said previously, there are lots of groups jockeying for position, lined up to fawn over Sadler. There are also many genuine fans, like yourself, who want to greet him and hear what he has to say. So I can easily see why it was oversubscribed. Amongst all this positivity, I do hope BST don't drop their guard and compromise their independence from the club. It would be quite easily done, given how sensible Sadler appears. They need to play it cool. Like the Fonz. Like me

It is actions, not words, that define the success of any owner, but Simon Sadler certainly hit the right tone with supporters yesterday. The 49-year-old appears to have his priorities in the right place. A lifelong fan, it’s in his interest to ensure the Seasiders are a sustainable, successful football club for 20 to 30 years - a timeframe he set out himself - and not just search for instant success. Some will be hoping Sadler opens his chequebook and flashes the cash straight away, but those people will be sadly disappointed. Such an approach will not be beneficial for the club who, let’s remember, are reliant on Sadler to stay afloat in the short-term, as was revealed in the recent court documents. The club will be built step-by-step, money isn’t going to be thrown at things from day one. The phrase “incremental improvement” was used on more than one occasion at last night’s fans’ forum when discussing both the squad and the club’s infrastructure. Clearly, a new training ground is right at the top of Sadler’s list of priorities. That will not only be welcomed by the fanbase but also the players, who have become accustomed to training at a facility that is frankly not fit for purpose and hasn’t been for years, maybe even decades. The club has already held discussions with the council about potential sites and further talks with take place now Sadler is in charge. The recent link-up between the club and council can only help with that search. It won’t just be a few pitches and some offices, either. Sadler is keen to construct a facility that can be accessed by the community and used by both the first-team and the academy, similar to the one already in use at Poolfoot. Such a facility doesn’t get built in the blink of an eye, it will take three or four years to come to fruition. Speaking to both the media and supporters yesterday, Sadler made his aspirations clear: the Championship is the aim and he wants to get there in two years. To do that, he knows there needs to be improvements to the playing squad. That, he assured fans, is already in hand. Indeed, an ‘exciting’ winger is expected to be unveiled at Bloomfield Road today. It’s important to note the club’s four new signings to date were all identified before Sadler’s arrival. It is from this point onwards where you’d expect the quality of the club’s acquisitions to be taken to the next level. If Sadler was a little guarded during his media interviews on Monday morning, he was in his element at the fans’ forum in the evening. The businessman provided a measured performance, where he outlined his ambitious - yet sensible - plans for the future. He was at ease with the 80 supporters in attendance and even managed to throw in the odd quip about the man he’s replacing at the top of Blackpool’s hierarchy. As you might expect, that went down well. I was intrigued that no one in the room asked Sadler about the future of manager Terry McPhillips, although he did touch on the subject on a couple of occasions. However, it wasn’t necessarily what Sadler said that was noteworthy, it what was left unsaid. “We want to get out of League One and stay in the Championship and Terry has been tasked with doing his bit towards that,” he said, somewhat coyly. Sadler confirmed to me earlier in the day that talks had taken place with McPhillips about a new contract, but that has been rumoured for a while. So why hasn’t it already been signed and announced? Sadler clearly wants a more entertaining product and, while a 10th-placed finish was more than satisfactory last season, I don’t think Sadler will be satisfied with it this coming campaign. Sadler appeared very confident McPhillips will be operating with a top-10 budget in League One this season, if not pushing for top five. Clearly he’ll want to see a return. Either way, things are very much looking up at Bloomfield Road and for the first time in many fans’ lives the club have an owner they can be proud of. Blackpool might not be the envy of the Football League, as one former chairman put it. Not yet, anyway. But the stepping stones are being prepared and the club is finally heading in the right direction. Perhaps unicorns do exist after all. https://www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/sport/football/blackpool-fc/gazette-opinion-s
