Those are my thoughts too. It pretty much confirms that he left here because things were getting a bit too unpleasant, rather than that he was ready to retire.

There's an "understand" in there, along with two 'facts' that may very well be right but in no way corroborate the takeover story, and two 'facts' which are speculative at best given that the Echo 'understands' rather than knows. Not saying it isn't happening, but has anyone seen Mr Dunphy in or around Bolton recently, possibly in the company of a middle aged balding bloke?
Dunphy on 12:36 - Mar 28 with 9498 views | electricblue | If i had seen this earlier i would have asked CD all about as he was near us having a brew... I think its a good venture for him to get his teeth into... I suppose he will have some backers to help him....

When a newspaper “understands”, it means they’ve been told by a source they cannot name. Still doesn’t mean the source is correct, to be fair, nor that the paper should publish what they’ve been told.

Good spot Judd. Fine journalism that describes us as a League Two club.

Dead right. And he will be joined by another familiar face who was also 'ousted'.

Dunphy on 09:59 - Mar 29 with 8009 views | pioneer | Still seems odd to me. he wasn’t your usual chairman, he was a lifetime blue to the bone dale fan who found he had the time money and interest to first join the board and than become chairman. For folks like that you would expect that when the time comes to stand down from the leadership role you would still see him supporting his team home and awAy. Clearly if he is contemplating ownership of Gateshead his money, his presence and possibly his life long love affair will not be at Spotland. Something very significant must have happened to end his devotion to the Dale. Could any of us on here ever see us throwing our lot in with another club? What would have to happen to get us to do that? Quite depressing that we could have lost him to gateshead. I can’t believe he can feel good about looking elsewhere. I hope the full story makes it to the public domain at some point.
Dunphy on 10:30 - Mar 29 with 7951 views | SuddenLad | It won't make good reading. Perhaps someone should tell the whole story. Good luck to Gateshead and those with Dale connections who seek a new challenge in a purer atmosphere.

You'll have the Gestapo after you and a random phonecall from the club if you're not careful, coming out with comments like that...
