If you compare it to how he talked about the squad at the start of the season with the young players being in his thoughts, and mention of Byers today, it doesn't look like he considers Cian part of his plans. "Cian's played" was the best he could come up with, and his next option given should anything happen to CCV or vdH was to change the shape.

Joe had the same criticisms against him playing for Cheltenham last season. "Scared to head the ball", they said. Most players have adjustment periods when stepping up a level or two.
Maybe he doesn't make the grade but I'd like to see him given a proper chance, given how he performed for the u23s last season. Only played cb in a back four once, and that was with the reserves (with an 18 year old partner who'd played only a handful of u23s matches) against a PL side in the cup. | | | |
