Someone told me a little story a week or so ago so I thought I'd go to Swansea library and and have a look in the archives and see for myself and get some print outs just in case i might ever need them like.
Whilst there I printed out a couple of other things.

I've been to many away games that were disappointing, rain soaked, where we deserved to win, but didn't. Grounds were horrible with pillars for viewing, stewards who were over the top in their duty. I've been showered with golf balls, coins, and bricks.

But I would have to be dragged kicking and screaming to Anfield ever again.

Still don't know who decided to close half the away end before the kick off, and why did the police disregard the instructions from the SCSClub, informing them of the exact amount of fans that would be attending that match.

Half the supporters on the bus I was stewarding didn't get in, albeit with genuine tickets bought in
advance.( often pay on the gate games at that time) It was an away day disaster all round.

Thanks Darran for the press cuttings, shame you missed the SWEP full page when AC and Neil Robinson were fined by Toshack for the P### in the Parkgate scandal.

Sorry Lorr.

As it happens just watched you again in the 2003 documentary with my mate Nigel Gigg.

Don't know the story about Neil Robinson at Anfield P**ss in thePark.?.?

I remember a lot of Swans fans being taken completely off guard by the Liverpool experience?.......... We had all heard about the infamous 'humour' and 'warmth' of The Kop and Scoucers but experienced the total opposite. Both police and LFC supporters were a rather nasty bunch.

There were plenty of hooligans present that day from both sides, and lots of trouble after the game. That game had the biggest mob of Swans mutters I have ever seen. To say they were scared is nonsense

Ye, that day was a bit 'special' for sure. But hey, looking back, what else could you have expected in those days other than a complete and utter shambles of events. Shankly dies, 10000 Swans fans attending, blah de blah. Just look back on it and remember that thankfully no one was hurt. Hillsboro, Heysel and the like were just around the corner and it's down to just pure luck that people didn't lose their lives that day. The clock was always ticking in that respect.

I went up on the soccer special for the 2-2 at Liverpool.
We were disappointed when Tosh came out, turned to the Kop & waved as he peeled off his tracksuit to reveal a Liverpool strip.
The Swans fans ejected from the Kop were pelted with milk bottles, followed by the crate, seemed funny as nobody got hurt & we were saying "how'd they get a crate of milk bottles into the Kop?".
Enjoyed the game but didn't like the ground, police or Liverpool fans much that day.
Have to say though they've applauded good Swans away performances there recently.

You've hit my point right on the head i.e. "The biggest mob of nutters I have ever seen". Only when surrounded by that comfort zone i.e. the 'biggest' mob of nutters hey?

I went to the next away game which was indeed shown on The Big Match. A paltry SCFC away following mostly of a few official coaches and no British Rail specials and guess what? No hoolies! The camera showed the jubilant fans celebrating after a goal? Not a wedge haircut, ski jumper or green-coat bomber jacket in sight. No hoolie war dress for this one!

Got in ht at Anfield on the kop, there was no famous Souse humour/banter, they were fckin evil bstds who wanted to kick the fck out of us basically, very scary experience

only bettered (in a worse way) by being chased through Stanley Park by literally 100's of Everton fans who did want to show us any Scouse hospitality same season!

Youngsters of today do not know what is was like to be an away fan back in the day. Literally a different world. Much better today. How more people didn't die then I'll never know.

Oh,..Dave, what's occuring?

How utter nonsense? That's all I am saying that the vast majority of the time it was the genuine official fans who used to run the gauntlet of hate when travelling away. Why? Because they were always the ones who used to turn up for EVERY away game. Whereas the hoolies were very choosey believe me i.e. they would only turn if they knew they would be surrounded by hundreds of their own kind. Cardiff away and next game after that travelling with only six coaches?

Sorry that is an undeniable fact. In fact speaking as a non-trouble making supporter it would have been a plus at times if SCFC's hoolie lot did turn up because they would have acted as a magnet for their opposing lot leaving us (scarfs wearing types) alone in the process. But sadly at places like Everton they stayed at home! The slashing of Jobe Henry pictured with hundreds of stitches, and subsequent type coverage in The Sun sort of put em off?...................I guess!

I remember the police had Ford Escort RS2000's in Liverpool which I thought was really cool.
Seemed to get into Anfield quite easily I think.

Everton was quite hairy. Horrible bunch at that time.

Stafford Rangers in the Welsh Cup away mid week. Why?
Ipswich away. One of the best away performances I've ever seen.

It really was a great time to be a Swans fan.

Great times with fantastic company. Many sadly no longer with us.

So what are you stating here exactly? Are you honestly trying too say that when the hoolies turned up and caused trouble then innocent fans would get the backlash because of that in future games? I'm sure your not as otherwise you may be quite well demented! It was the 80's ffs! It was was it was!

Lucky to get in Anfield Road End and was so crammed could lift both feet off the ground. Some noise from fans outside during Shankley minute silence didn't help mood of the locals.
Agree Everton was nastier fixture and mate got attacked outside ground but reckons it wasn't football fans just local scallies.
Ipswich away was longest but brilliant trip and equally interesting stop off in London on way back. How good was Curt that day!

Mr M?

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

Seem to recall any midlands ground as horrible place with fans to match.

Went to Upton Park once and what a festering hole of sewerage.

No sign of any cheeky chappie -I knew the Krays- fookers.

Plenty of trash at Highbury and WHL.

By the same token, there wasn't much working class, welsh, all in it together spirit between our Cardiff games.

Come to think of it, don't remember the Vetch to be that welcoming.
