Will the Dale make history today by beating them for the 5th consecutive opening home game at the Den?

Hope so...

A calm and considered approach should be taken to all kit analysis.

Only yesterday I had to hold back my fury when witnessing that Burnley and Reading not only both wore blue shorts (different shades), but the heinous crime was magnified to catastrophic proportions as white socks were used by both too.

Count to ten? I find getting up to thirty is required on occasion.

You think I could have watched such an atrocity long enough to count the players? My eyes would rebel, they aren't programmed to deal with that much incorrect information.

I don't pretend to have first dibs on anything. I am not that kind of character. But I do like fair play and a sense of justice...

You see, for all previous seasons we were working with the old Dale Player and it was a fair free-for-all for news. Again, I don't expect to be first for news and certainly don't have that right. The new Dale Player is slower and allows people to announce vital news a minute or so before Dale Player listeners get it. It kind of spoils it for us when that happens...

I was on holiday when we played Blackpool. That was the last time I contributed to the match thread. All the other games I attended. But during that match people were breaking news of goals before we heard it from Dale Player. So, contributing to the match thread yesterday I was aware what was going on. Sure enough we were told of the second goal long before we heard it on Dale Player. We were just discussing the first goal at the time.

It is like going to the cinema and someone is shouting out the vital story line about a minute or so before it happens. Would you go to the cinema if that happened and you knew the same person would be doing that in future visits?

Don't get me wrong, I understand that if someone get's the news first they have every right to tell the world first. I get it. I get it !!!!!!! That is where the buck stops. But you have to look deeper than that, be more subtle, and understand what is actually happening. And you do. You want to spoil that little game someone else is playing.

At the end of the day things have moved on in terms of Dale Player. It is a new ever- changing world, sometimes progressing, other times regressing. You've popped that bubble.

In the style of Draggon's Den, for the above reasons, I am sorry I won't be investing in the future on the match thread but I wish you luck.

The best way ever to announce goals is the old Piccadilly Radio "Oh no" or "It's a goal", often halfway through a song. That was proper drama.

But isn't the whole point of the match thread that it offers different viewpoints? You give the ones from Daleplayer, others from the game, others from the radio or SSN. There's no fair play or rules, just football fans shouting via a messageboard. Reading any such thread back afterwards always looks a bit silly as people have posted reactionary stuff for little reason. Me included.

Hope the 'you' mentioned isn't aimed at anyone really because at the end of the day the match thread is unique every week with different contributors offering what they hear or see. I don't always bother putting GMR on, in fact the only reason I did yesterday was because it wasn't on and we'd gone a goal down and I thought that chaos theory could be prompted to provide an equaliser. It worked (forget the two they got after that, the fences were then down all over the park).

Edit: missed the bit about Daleplayer being behind - maybe contact the club or the service that provide it? Do prople with it turn off Sky in case they announce the goals first? That can't be good. I certainly don't intend to spoil anyone's enjoyment of listening to it, but there's no way those of us without it can be totally sure who is connected and how far behind/in front they are. Actually, to take a positive from this, maybe a text "commentary thread" could work for those who don't follow the same service on twitter.

I'd also add that the DalePlayer commentary team/radio reporters/Sky reporters, etc, have a different perspective at games from those behind the goal or closer to the action, so alternative comments and opinions on incidents can only be a positive.

Maybe have a separate Daleplayer match thread for those listening a few minutes after everyone else knows what's happened?

Actually aren't the reports of the game's development via commentary what makes someone reporting it useful? Everyone knows when the goals go in but the smaller aspects of the 90 minutes go unreported.

It's combining full commentary with goal alerts for those who can't be bothered looking any further than here. It's useful.

Not sure it always is. Certainly not so obvious until a goal goes in.

Also GMR have always been good and are usually way ahead of Sky, it's not just this season that I've heard it on there before tv or it's been posted on here.

I think any outlet that keeps fans informed is valuable.

Personally, for away games and the home games I can't attend, I find a combination of the club's official Twitter feed and my mates attending the game works for me.

The club's Twitter feed gives a blow-by-blow account (albeit with a Dale bias) while my mates put it in context.

In the old days, before the delights of mobile technology, if I wasn't at a game, I would listen for updates on GMR with my eyes glued to Teletext.

This whole "comments" thing is being taken right out of context.

My choice for games I can't make is a combination of this messageboard and the BBC live videprinter alongside an instantly updated League One table.

It really doesn't matter who, what or where though. YTD's early and frequent posts from away games have been a real feature of our Match Threads for some time now, and I'd say we look forward to them, alongside all the other comments (some daft) which makes for a decent second-best experience for a fan to actually being there.

What happened on Saturday falls into the "daft comments" category, which has now been taken miles out of context and made into some kind of issue.

What people need to do is just take a breath, and carry on as before.
